This post offers an exciting opportunity for a nurse, with a keen interest in continence care to lead the NHS Fife continence service to enhance care and develop new and existing services.

The Team Leader Continence Service role will oversee delivery of continence care to service users such as comprehensive continence assessments, coordinating the management of continence problems and have the oversight of the provision of continence products. The role involves working in partnership across primary care in the H&SCP whilst maintaining strong links within the acute division such as urology and gynaecology specialist nursing services. The role will involve supporting a wide range staff with education and training as well as leading and managing the continence team. This includes working collaboratively with agencies and organisations outside the NHS such as council and privately owned Nursing and Care Homes.

You should have significant experience supporting patients to manage continence, have excellent communication skills and the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a wider team.

You must also have the ability to travel throughout Fife.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to work as a Renal Recipient Transplant Coordinator within our Renal service in NHS Fife. Early identification, effective assessment and preparation of Patients with End Stage Renal Failure are key to this role in ensuring patients are timely listed for Transplantation.

You will work closely with the nephrologists, transplant surgeon, senior nursing team and participate in the transplant multi-disciplinary team meetings. You will also work closely with colleagues in the regional Transplant Centre in Edinburgh.

You should be a qualified Nurse with significant Renal experience with a genuine interest in working with Renal patients and a keen desire to develop within the service. You should have evidence of significant post registration professional practice to undertake and fulfil the key areas for this post.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an innovative candidate to work as an Advanced Acute Frailty Practitioner within our Integrated Assessment Team at the front door. Early identification, effective assessment and management of frailty have been identified as significant priorities for NHS Fife to optimise patient outcomes. The Integrated Assessment team is a rapidly developing multidisciplinary team which provides comprehensive assessment for patients who are identified as having frailty syndromes to ensure effective identification of patient pathways and destination of care is reached in a timely manner. You should be a qualified Nurse or registered AHP with significant acute care and frailty experience with a passion for working with older people and a keen desire to develop within this dynamic service. Non medical prescribing and clinical decision making qualifications are an ultimate requirement for this post and you will be expected to work towards obtaining these skills.

You should have evidence of significant post registration professional practice experience to undertake and fulfil the key areas for this post including completion of relevant postgraduate courses to masters degree level, or working towards master degree level or ability to demonstrate working at masters degree level appropriate to clinical area.

We will however consider staff with suitable experience of working within this scope of practice, who have a desire to develop and become an advanced Practitioner through completion of the above qualifications. The Senior Charge Nurse has overall continuing responsibility for the efficient and safe management of this busy Day Surgery Unit.

The Unit sits within the Planned Care Directorate and is responsible for providing Day Surgery and 23 hour stay services, as well as diagnostic tests, treatments, and pre-assessment for patients.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced nurse to develop to the next stage of their career progression. We are looking to recruit a driven individual who has significant post registration experience and a track record in leadership and change management.

You will be part of and lead an established team of nursing and administrative staff who work closely together to provide an efficient and safe pathway for patients undergoing day surgery and 23 hour stay surgery in the Queen Margaret Hospital.

We are seeking an experienced nurse who will embrace the challenge of this dynamic and exciting role. You will be an expert clinical practitioner responsible for providing advanced clinical assessment of the surgical patient; enhancing care and improving patient flow in conjunction with national standards.

You will work as part of a team of two Advanced Nurse Practitioners and be responsible for performing clinical assessment of deteriorating patients and apply clinical expertise to diagnose and initiate appropriate investigations and treatment. You will work collaboratively with the designated ward teams as well as the on-call team as well as others to deliver safe, effective, person centred care.

You will work across professional and organisational boundaries in partnership with others including acute and primary care nursing and medical staff, allied health professionals and senior management teams. You should possess the leadership skills to prioritise demanding workloads and be responsive in a challenging clinical environment.You should be able to demonstrate an ongoing and self-motivated commitment to continued professional development.

You must possess an Advanced Clinical Examination qualification and preferably the Non Medical Prescribing course – or evidence of working towards this.

You must be in possession of a minimum of a Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Practice. Possession of a Masters qualification or a willingness to work towards is desirable; however, the ability to demonstrate Masters level thinking is essential. You will be required to rotate into the surgical admissions ward as required to meet the demands of the service.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a prescribing support nurse with experience in delivering care to patients over a range of long term conditions to join the prescribing support team in helping to improve the safety, quality and cost-effectiveness of prescribing within NHS Fife.

Under the direction of the lead pharmacists, you will engage with GP practices, care homes, clinics and wards to improve prescribing, maximise prescribing efficiencies and improve adherence to clinical guidelines and formulary in your specialist area.

This may involve review of patients’ medication to provide expert opinion on best treatment; set-up of bespoke clinics to review these patients (in addition to practices’ regular clinic provision); peer support and education to practice nurses to develop their own clinics.

An excellent relationship has been established with the Managed Clinical Network (MCN) leads and nurse managers and they will continue to provide professional input and direction to your role, and you likewise will be expected to support the work of the MCN at times, e.g. through meeting attendance, providing educational support.

We are looking for nurses with in-depth knowledge over a range of long term conditions eg respiratory, diabetes, chronic pain and mental health. You will have experience in a patient facing role in primary care or hospital and have the ability to influence prescribing to ensure that patients receive the optimal treatment for their condition, in line with local and national guidelines.

You should have good interpersonal skills and be able to work with a range of people including patients, fellow nurses, GPs, practice managers, practice pharmacists and MCN managers/leads.

The posts are Fife-wide and the ability to travel throughout Fife is essential.

We are seeking skilled staff to join our established Hospital at Home service within the West Division. You will be required to deliver a high standard of safe and effective acute medical patient care within patient’s homes and must have the ability to work autonomously in this evolving service.

You should have a clinical decision making qualification at degree level or above. This should include the ability to work autonomously as a Nurse Practitioner as well as having clinical skills including venepuncture, ECG, IV additives and cannulation. A non-medical prescribing qualification would be desirable but not essential; however, it would be a requirement to undertake this in the future.

In line with the national arrangements for pay and banding of trainees, this post is open to suitable individuals who can demonstrate an ability to develop in to the role of Nurse Practitioner following the successful completion of a structured academic and in-house training programme.

Individuals who meet the full requirements of a Nurse Practitioner role will commence on Band 6 pay scale. Those applicants who are interested in developing in to the role, following the successful completion of academic qualifications, will commence on Band 5 pay scale in line with Agenda for Change Annex 21 (pay and banding of trainees). On successful completion of this programme you will transfer on to the Band 6 pay scale.

You will have good communication skills and have a flexible attitude to work. The ability to travel within the area in a timely manner is essential.

You should have a sound clinical knowledge and a commitment to high standards of pharmaceutical care. You will be a registered pharmacist with a background in hospital, primary care or community pharmacy. It would be desirable though not essential to have previous experience of working within a Mental Health environment.

You will have a Masters degree in Pharmacy or equivalent and be on the practicing register of the General Pharmaceutical Council. An opportunity has arisen to join an enthusiastic, motivated and supportive team of 11 Consultant Emergency Physicians (9.85 WTE). The role is based in the Emergency Department at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, which opened in 2012. The department has an annual attendance of 65,000.

The appointee will be responsible for the reception, resuscitation, diagnosis and initial treatment of all emergencies. They will make arrangements for patients to be admitted into hospital beds, special units or other hospitals, to outpatients or back to the community. They will be expected to participate actively in the clinical workload of the Department, undertaking direct management and assessment of patients. During Departmental sessions, the appointee will need to be aware of the junior doctors’ workload and to take action to ensure that excess hours are not worked. They will use their Sports and Exercise Medicine expertise to support staff in the department in the management of musculoskeletal injury assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing education. Other areas of the appointee’s expertise - for example in topics like concussion will also be utilised in ongoing education and training of staff.

As an EM consultant group we believe strongly in providing a sustainable work/life balance. A PA is included for each on call. Clinical administration time has been factored in as per RCEM guidance. There is a 24 hour middle grade rota with no gaps.

We perform well in key areas such as sepsis, stroke thrombolysis and compliance with the 4 hour target. We have an excellent relationship and collaborate closely with all in-patient teams. As a department we are committed to teaching and providing a positive experience of EM to our junior doctors. Our trainees rate their experiences in Fife highly and this is recognised regionally and in GMC surveys.

There is access to electronic pathology and radiology ordering. Departmental guidelines, protocols and rotas are on the departmental intranet web pages. We perform well in key areas such as sepsis, stroke thrombolysis and compliance with the 4 hour target.

The Emergency Department has 24 hour senior doctor presence, (11 Consultant Emergency physicians 9.85 WTE) with current shop floor consultant presence daily from 0800 to 2300. We have 4 GPwSI who deliver regular sessions in evenings and at weekends. There are daily ENP sessions to help with the minors flow.

There is a co-located GP OOH service in the evenings and at weekends, allowing redirection of appropriate patients. A formal redirection policy is in operation.

These posts will be appointed to for 1 year During this period, you will work for four months as an additional member of the junior tier (maximum 48 hours per week), with shop floor teaching focusing on prioritisation of workload, formulation of investigation and management plans. There will be scheduled time spent at Virtual Fracture Clinic vetting, knee clinic, and assisting on the observation ward with patient review under consultant supervision. In addition, one month will be spent as a supernumerary trainee (maximum 40 hours per week) in anaesthesia gaining skills in basic airway assessment and management. One month will be spent on the junior rota in Paediatrics (maximum 40 hours per week) gaining and developing skills in assessment and management of paediatric patients including venepuncture and cannulation.

The second six months will involve working on the middle grade rota. You will have allocated CPD time of 8 hours per week. There will be the option to use these CPD sessions to allow a period of secondment to another specialty within NHS Fife.

Successful applicants will be encouraged to take part in departmental audit and in delivery of teaching sessions to junior colleagues and nursing staff with consultant support. Previous postholders have presented their CPD/audits at national conferences and have been successful in obtaining posts in ACCS EM training.
