Supplementing Retirement with a Planned Gift: Are you nearing retirement or are already retired and are look-ing to make a year-end gift? If so, a Charitable Gift Annuity can be a way to supplement your retirement income and help your parish at the same time. Also, if you are 70 ½ or older, don’t forget about the IRA Charitable Rollover. Let the Archdiocese of Newark help you set up a Charitable Gift Annuity by contact-ing Theresa Lynch in the Planned Giving Office. She can be reached at (973) 497-4042 or by e-mail at [email protected].

Wisdom of the Saints The gifts of grace increase as the struggles increase.

—St. Rose of Lima The principal act of courage is to endure and withstand dangers doggedly rather than to attack them.

—St. Thomas Aquinas A person who governs his passions is master of the world. We must either rule them or be ruled my them. It is better to be the hammer than the anvil.

—St. Dominic Sorrow can be alleviated by good sleep, a bath, and a glass of wine.

—St. Thomas Aquinas

SHARING GOD’S BLESSINGS (formally AAA)

This year your donation to the Annual Appeal will go to Semi-narian Education, Catholic Charites, Parishes in financial need, Catholic education, Youth Ministry, Priest Retirement and Cam-pus Ministry in our many colleges. We are all asked to give 10% of our blessings as a tithe. Usu-ally 5% to support the parish & 5% to your favorite charities. Perhaps you would like to support the Archdiocese in many of its charitable works by pledging to the Annual Appeal.

The 2018 Mass Book We began accepting Mass Intentions for 2018 on June 1, 2017 at the rectory. Intentions may be offered for the dead to gain indulgences. You may offer Mass for deceased individ-uals or for families. No more than 3 Sunday Masses can be offered at this time. After July 1 you may offer more week-end Masses if they’re available. Intentions for Mass may also be offered for the living. One does not offer Mass for saints or the Blessed Mother since they are already in heaven.

CARNIVAL VOLUNTEERS

Thank you to all the people who made the carnival a success. From set-up to clean-up and everything in between, there were wonderful parishioners who pitched in. During the actual carni-val people cooked food, served food, staffed game booths. Many worked more hours than they had originally pledged. Everyone worked hard but always with a smiling face.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated in any way.

YOU ARE AMAZING!

G od so loved the world that he gave his only Son (John 3:16) The readings for today, Holy Trinity Sun-

day, all speak about God’s love. And why not? The Trinity is all about a relationship of love. Father, Son and Holy Spirit is a unity of love between three Per-sons. Without this love the Trinity could not be, and God could not be God. There are many religions in the world but not all see or understand God as love. The Hindus see god as a monism, a singularity that is impersonal. Buddhism has deified the Buddha, Sid-dhartha Gautama, and does not believe in a god as a creator. In Baha’ism, the founder taught that God cre-ated man due to his love for them, and man should in turn love God which is very close to the Christian con-cept of God. In Islam, God or Allah is merciful yet transcendent, and one is hard pressed to discover a God who is love contained in the covers of the Quran. Our ancestors in the faith, the Jews know God to be loving yet transcendent, and so fail to recognize the extent that God would go to show his love, that is, to send his only Son so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. We who are baptized in the name of the Trini-ty, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, are likewise called to imitate this relationship which is bound up in love. Perhaps it can be likened to God, Church and Us. Through this three way relationship we are united by God’s grace. Then we, his sons and daughters, go into the world so that many come to believe in Jesus and so not perish but rather be set free from sin and death. God’s love for us is a gift. Our response is not only to love God but to love our neighbor as He loves us. Easy? No. Worth it? Yes. In a world filled with envy, hate, and greed, we need to be the light of God’s love which has been freely given and we are asked by God to give freely what has been given to us. Once we can let go, we can let God’s love emanate from us.

“On Carrying the Cross” with Rich Fritzky

Rich Fritzky, father of 12 and author of A Pilgrim’s Song – Mary Varick and Her Theology of Suffering, Tidings of Great Joy – Keeping Christmas Well and What Must Needs Come – a Legacy of Gettysburg looks forward to returning to Holy Trinity on Thursday evening, June 15 at 7:00 p.m. An inspiring and moving speaker, he will suggest that the most im-portant work any of us can possibly do here on earth is to help Christ carry the cross.

In a recent appearance at Our Lady of Grace in Hobo-ken, he, a quadruple amputee who lost both legs and all but the stub of one finger, said, “What people see is my stark broken-ness and they can be thrown by it, but I have rather found my disability to be a blessing. I am, as I am, living my best life. Loss and chronic suffering were my invitation to prayer, to grace, to sacrifice, to the cross, to humility, to mercy, to joy and to you.”

He believes that all who share our faith “falteringly follow an unbounded and unlimited hope in the promise, born of Good Friday and Easter, a promise beyond our seeing or even our imagining, a promise that is bound to our willingness to love and to love without ever counting the costs or looking for any-thing in return.”

He last spoke to us in December of 2015 and it proved to be a moving experience for all who attended, but Father Paul hopes that more parishioners might take advantage and come out this time.

Rich knows Holy Trinity intimately as he spent the first 22 years of his life here as a member of our parish. His website is www.richfritzky.com and should you like to reach him in ad-vance, you can do so by emailing him at [email protected].

Memorial Mass for Oscar Bradford June 20 at 12:10

When Oscar passed away he left behind a small family who lives a distance away. He had expressed to his daughter how lonely he was and how few friends he had so she did not plan a funeral Mass. This was far from the truth. Many of us appreciat-ed and loved Oscar. On June 20, I will celebrate a memorial mass for Oscar at 12:10 PM and then I will go to George Washington Cemetery in Paramus and bless his grave. Afterward I will take lunch. I invite anyone who cared for Oscar to join me.

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
