Film• Brazilian cinema was

introduced early in the 20th century but took some time to consolidate itself as a popular form of entertainment. The film industry of Brazil has gone through periods of ups and downs, a reflection of its dependency on State funding and incentives.

• Black Orpheus won the Palme d'Or at the 1959 Cannes Film Festival as well as the 1960 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and the 1960 Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Film although it was credited to France as it’s film director was French.

Music• Samba is the best known

form of Brazilian music worldwide, although bossa nova and other genres have also received much attention abroad. Brazil also has a growing community of modern/experimental composition, including electroacoustic music.

• The music of Brazil encompasses various regional music styles influenced by African, European and Amerindian forms. After 500 years of history, Brazilian music developed some unique and original styles such as choro, sertanejo, brega, frevo, samba, maracatu, bossa nova, MPB, Brazilian rock, axé and others.

Architecture

• The Palacio de Alvorada(left) is the official home of the President of Brazil. In Brazil, their modern art is as cherished and involved in their culture as can be, setting a mark of progress in a western world bound by tradition and circumstance. 

• One of Brazil’s most recognizable and celebrated works of architecture is one that broadcasts another form of art entirely.  The Brazil TV Tower by Lucio Costa is a high standing monument to Brazilian technological achievement and a lasting artistic sensibility celebrated in architecture.

Dance

• In Brazil, dance is seen as a form of love and interpretation of music and movement, during festivals dances like the Samba(right) take a whole new meaning. There are over 40 types of dance in Brazil.

• Capoeira(right) is just one of the many interesting facets of dance styles seen in Brazil, it features a multitude of martial-arts type of moves and motions such as kicks and punches and swift sweeps. All in all, this is a very exciting dance to watch in person.
