Americans feared Soviet’s ability to launch ballistic missiles that could carry nuclear weapons from space.

The Soviets introduced Sputnik the first space satellite. The U.S was just frightened and pushed their missile program into higher gear. Marked the real beginning of the race.

Both countries wanted to be the first one to land on the moon and return safely back to Earth.

They race for rocket technologies.

Both countries wanted to be known as a World

Leader so they competed for who has the latest technology.

They raced for who is going to be the first man in space.

They competed for who would be able to put the first man on the moon.

They competed for who lasts longer in .space(Endurance), invented better rockets.

Competed for who invents the first rockets able to leave the orbit of the Earth.

In the U.S , military programs were kept

secret while civilian space activies were

widely publicized for the people to see.

In Russia, Military projects were kept secret

while successful launches were

broadcasted to the media.
