Bishop Donald J. HyingVideo Web Series C4: Ignite Your Catholic FaithIn the spring/summer of 2012, when the Archdiocese of Milwaukee's Communication Office asked Bishop Don to appear in an upcoming, weekly, year long series on the Catechism of the Catholic Church, it was no small question. Our team was really asking this modest bishop to step out of his comfort zone and to become the "face" of this all new, all out evangelization effort. He humbly accepted our proposal and we launched the series as a "Year of Faith" initiative. Developed as a joint effort between the communication and evangelization offices, we composed a calendar that follows the liturgical year. Each webisode is based upon a theme inside the Catechism. The series begins with very basic questions about God, religion, and Catholicism, then progresses into more specific and challenging topics. In order to maximize visibility and accessibility, we house the videos on YouTube and link them to our archdiocesan website. We also promote the videos through various channels including parish bulletins, Facebook, Twitter, and Archbishop Listecki's bi -weekly radio show. The web series ran through the 2013 Feast of Christ the King; reaching people both in and outside of southeastern Wisconsin. In addition to local catechists and parishes using the series, we receive requests from around the world for copies and permission to utilize the videos for religious education. Our YouTube account shows views from places such as Canada, Haiti, Vietnam, South Africa, and more. The series is closed captioned for the hearing impaired and translated into Spanish for an audio version voiced by an archdiocesan priest. While the original run is over, the series is now available on DVD by popular demand through Amazon.com. How exciting! We even get the chance to evangelize through the world's leading online retailer - another great use of technology. As if that isn't exciting enough, the series is also now included in the programming for the all new, Catholic cable/satellite network "Shalom TV" here in the United States. The network programmers were so impressed by the short and inspirational messages, that they asked us to share the series with their viewers upon their big launch on Sunday, April 27, 2014. We are proud to nominate Bishop Don for the Technology Evangelization Award. Through the help of the Holy Spirit, he is reaching and teaching people far and wide about the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Bishop Kevin J. Farrell

Bishop Kevin Farrell has consistently been a leader among bishops in bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ to his diocese via cutting edge technology. His own personal online presence has made a significant impact in his diocese. His Twitter account, featuring both reflections on the daily Mass readings and the writings of Pope Francis, as well as thoughts on contemporary issues of the day, just reached over 5,000 Twitter followers. He has also encouraged the technological development of his blog to accompany his content, and the recent revamp of his blog theme integrates multiple current web design trends such as flat design, large fonts with ample white space, and a large custom background graphic. The site is also built with responsive design (mobile friendly) to accommodate the 34% of his blog traffic that reaches the site via mobile and tablet devices. In addition to utilizing blogs and social media to share the message of Christ, Bishop Farrell has also encouraged the development of technological tools that improve communications within the operations of the diocese, including the rollout of a new diocesan wide email system. Bishop Farrell also understands the importance of integrating technology on the parish level. In 2014, Bishop Farrell requested that parish representatives attend diocese sponsored Facebook Bootcamp training so that every parish in the diocese would be trained how to use Facebook safely and effectively. He also encourages his priests and parishes to utilize and embrace social media.
