What are the life forms?

Humans.Animals.Plants.

– And…

Microbes

4 WH Questions

• What are microbes?

• Where do they live?

• When do they survive?

• Why they are participating other life forms?

Page 5: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

So the study of microbes is called…

Microbiology

Page 6: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

Why do we study microbiology??

Microbes have dominated Earth for more than 3 billion years.

Page 7: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

Why do we study medical microbiology???

Page 8: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

Nine out of ten cells in our bodies are microbes

So, why are we not suffering from any disease all the time?

Page 9: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

When microbes can cause a disease?

Weak immune system.Pathogenic microbial invasion.Invasion to a sterile body site.

Page 10: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

Objectives

Types of microbes.Definition of microbes.A sample story in bacteriology lab.

Page 11: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

Microbes Include…

Bacteria.Viruses.Parasites.Fungi.

Page 12: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

Bacteria

• Unicellular prokaryotes.

• Examples:– Staphylococcus spp.– Vibrio cholera.

Page 13: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

Viruses

• Smallest infectious particle.

• Example:– Rotavirus.

Page 14: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

Parasites

• Eukaryotes, unicellular or multicelluar.

• Example:– Giardia lambia.

Page 15: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

Fungi

• Eukaryotes, in a unicellular or filamentous form.

• Example:– Trichophyton rubrum

Page 16: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

An ending story…

Please…

Don’t sleep

Page 17: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

Once upon a time…

Hinds’ 12th birthday

Page 18: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

In the next day…

Page 19: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

She went to A Gastroenterologist

A Stool Sample Was Requested

In Microbiology Lab

Page 22: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

In the Next Day

Page 23: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

And After Reading the Culture Media

Page 24: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

And Performing the Biochemical Tests

Page 25: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

It was Escherichia coli

Page 26: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

The Microbiologist Decided to

Perform Antibiotic Susceptibility Testing (AST)

Page 27: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

In the Next Day of AST

Page 28: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

After 3 Days of Medication

Page 29: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

Am I right when I said the Macroworld of Microbiology

Page 30: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

When someone speaks about another,

What is the first thing that comes into your mind??!

Page 31: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

Face

Page 32: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

Is it…?

Rectangular face

Spherical face

Elongated face

Square shaped face

Triangular face

Page 33: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

His Behavior

Page 34: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

Does he like to work in a group, alone or…?

Page 35: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

So now after knowing these two things, you can speak

to him/ her

Page 36: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

They live and behave like we do in our society

Page 37: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

Objectives

• To define different bacterial morphologies.

• To define their arrangements together.

Page 40: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

Bacteria are exactly the same…

What about their arrangements?!

Some are flagellated

Page 54: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

Hmm, did you like bacteria?!

Page 55: Welcome to the macroworld of microbiology 13 2

Lets revise their morphologies and arrangements
