About UsThe Ekurhuleni Jewellery Project (EJP) is a Section 21 NPO (Non Profit Organisation) company incorporated under Section 21 of the Companies Act (registration number: 2008/01734/08) . EJP was officially launched in 2009 as  a training and business incubation Centre. EJP caters for industry based training skills programmes and development of Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMME) for commercial sustainability and success. The Ekurhuleni Jewellery Project is funded and supported by: Rand Refinery , Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA), The Jewellery Council of South Africa and The Gauteng Growth and Development Agency (GGDA).

Training

The Ekurhuleni Jewellery Project provides short courses, skills programmes and has a recognition-of-prior-learning system in its Training for Trade Programmes. 

The learners receive some theoretical background into jewellery, to which the project then adds the necessary practical skills needed. The learners are also provided with a nationally recognised qualification after completion of the Training programmes. 

The programmes vary in length  and have specific outcomes, aligned with the industry requirements and individual development.

The Available Skills programmes: 

•Introduction to working in a jewellery manufacturing workshop•Production of jewellery•Basic hand skills training for the production of jewellery •Basic polishing of jewellery •Final finishing of jewellery

There are several options for the learners to utilize their newly acquired skills after graduating from the programmes: 

•join one of 7 incubators set up within the project as entrepreneurs (SMME's) •be absorbed into the formal jewellery sector or;•further their studies with Design@50 for rapid prototyping skills and CAD designing.

Incubatees / SMMEsThe Ekurhuleni Jewellery Project provides an enabling environment with business and

technical skills training. The workshops are set-up with state-of-the-art equipment and can accommodate up to 14 emerging jewellers.

Business TechnicalAssisted with: have access to : - Company registration - A dedicated jewellery bench and workshop- Initial business cards - A “day” safe in the incubator unit- Administrative support - Access to precious metals- Show casing facilities - Casting, waxing and plating facilities- Basic business training - Design and 3D printing- Marketing opportunities - Technical skills training- Training on how to deal with clients
