DESCRIPTION

This presentation tells about interlinking River Kaveri and its tributaries in Bangalore plateau, India (It is an elevated area of land in the south western part of Deccan area). This solves all the water related problems in Bangalore plateau including disputes related to River Kaveri, if the guidelines and views mentioned in the presentation are completed along with interlinking Ganga to Kaveri. Interlinking Ganga to Kaveri will provide sufficient water at the level below "500-550 meter above the mean sea level". Thus Tamilnadu need not depend upon water generated from the River Kaveri and its tributaries.

Question3: What is the necessity to use the water of KaveriRiver and its tributaries only in Karnataka? Answer: The River Kaveri and its tributaries are the onlypossible major source of water available for the land and thepeople of, so called Bangalore plateau of south India. Becausemost of the lands of the Bangalore plateau are above the levelof 600 mts AMSL. And the big city Bangalore is at the level of800 to 890 mts AMSL and it is one of city which requires lot ofwater for domestic purpose. And if we do not act properly atthis time then we may face serious complications related towater scarcity in the city of Bangalore and in the lands ofBangalore plateau, so it is the time to think about it.509 6. Question: How is it possible to utilise all the water of theriver Kaveri and its tributaries with in Karnataka? Answer: It is possible by Interlinking all the tributaries ofriver Kaveri and the river Kaveri itself and the river Palarwhich drains in to Bay of Bengal, by interlinking theserivers at the level of 900 mts AMSL.512 9. Topic series: 462.Topic 1: How about using all the water of River Kaveri and itstributaries in Karnataka, if Tamilnadu gets better alternate source ofwater? Question5: Why 900mts AMSL is chosen for the purposeof interlinking the tributaries of river Kaveri. Answer: 900mts AMSL is the ideal height for Primarychannel 2 for interlinking the tributaries of river Kaveri. Ifwe go above this level, we will not get the continuous flatland for the purpose of creation of the canal and we mayhave to go inside the forest in most of the areas. If wecreate the canal at the level less than 900mts AMSL thenthe canal are not going to supply most of the land and themajor cities including Bangalore and Mysore.513 10. Question6: What are the advantages of interlinking thetributaries of Kaveri River. Answer: There are many advantages, 7. Construction of huge dams is not required thus there isno question of back water immersing the cities andvillages will arise. 8. We can supply water on need basis. We can fill anyreservoir any time when it is half filled or when it isrequired.519 16. Topic series: 462.Topic 1: How about using all the water of River Kaveri and itstributaries in Karnataka, if Tamilnadu gets better alternate source ofwater? Question6: What are the advantages of interlinking thetributaries of Kaveri River. Answer: There are many advantages, 9. We can convert all the land in Bangalore platue in toirrigated land, we can supply any amount of water toindustries as per their requirement and there will not beany scarcity of water for drinking and domestic purpose. 10. Farmers looking in to the sky for rain when theyrequire will be completely stopped.520 17. Topic series: 462.Topic 1: How about using all the water of River Kaveri and itstributaries in Karnataka, if Tamilnadu gets better alternate source ofwater? Question7: What is the necessity to do this work of interlinkingthe tributaries of river Kaveri and to utilise all the water of riverKaveri and its tributaries in the Bangalore plateau? Answer: Let us assess the magnitude of water requirement bylooking at one example. It is advised by all the health authority that for maintaining agood health by an individual, at least 200 litres of water perperson per day is required for the purposes like drinking, cooking, washing utensils, bating, washing cloths and so on.Let us consider the population of Bangalore city that is1,00,00,000.521 18. Topic series: 462.Topic 1: How about using all the water of River Kaveri and itstributaries in Karnataka, if Tamilnadu gets better alternate source ofwater? Question7: What is the necessity to do this work ofinterlinking the tributaries of river Kaveri and to utilise all thewater of river Kaveri and its tributaries in the Bangaloreplateau? So, the daily requirement of water for domestic purpose to theBangalore city is 2,000,000,000 litres or 0.074TMC of waterand the annual requirement of the water for domestic purposeonly for Bangalore city becomes 27TMC. Next we have to lookin to the aspects like water requirement for the variousindustries that are present in and around Bangalore city, thewater for the lands present around the Bangalore foragriculture, the water for various constructions that is going onin the Bangalore city; it may be 100TMC to put together.522 19. Topic series: 462.Topic 1: How about using all the water of River Kaveri and itstributaries in Karnataka, if Tamilnadu gets better alternate source ofwater? Question7: What is the necessity to do this work ofinterlinking the tributaries of river Kaveri and to utilise allthe water of river Kaveri and its tributaries in theBangalore plateau? Which water source is going to provide the water for allthese activities? If such source is not actually present, then that indicates that most of the people present in thecity are not leading quality life like not taking the bathevery day and not wearing washed clean cloth every dayand so on.523 20. Topic series: 462.Topic 1: How about using all the water of River Kaveri and itstributaries in Karnataka, if Tamilnadu gets better alternate source ofwater? Question8: Is it not possible to get this amount of water just bychecking the rainwater by creating the check dams andmaking the water to stay at the many small reservoirs presentin and around the Bangalore city targeting the rivers that arepresent near the city like Arkavathi? Answer: The rain fall in the catchment area of Arkavathi and /or around Nandi hills area may not generate 100TMC of waterper annum. Let us assume that it is going to generate thismuch of water during rainy season, but what is the use, if thiswater will not be present throughout the year for utilisationdue to various reasons like,524 21. Topic series: 462.Topic 1: How about using all the water of River Kaveri and itstributaries in Karnataka, if Tamilnadu gets better alternate source ofwater? Question8: Is it not possible to get this amount of waterjust by checking the rainwater by creating the check damsand making the water to stay at the many small reservoirspresent in and around the Bangalore city targeting therivers that are present near the city like Arkavathi? 1. The evaporation rate increases as the environmenttemperature is more (Global warming due to heatedvehicular and factory emissions) and the humidity is less(Less trees).525 22. 2. The water percolates faster as there are more number ofbore wells and pumping of water continuously from it dueto increased demand leading to decreased soil moistureor increased soil dehydration.526 23. 3. There may be continuous utilisation of water directly fromwhatever water present in the small reservoirs and lakes. Thusthe number of reservoirs and lakes are decreased in andaround the places where there are more human activity. Thismay be the few reasons to say, why we do not see manyreservoirs, which we were seeing one to two decades ago. Thismay be the reasons for decrease in the number of reservoirsfrom 600 to 40 within 10 to 20 years around Bangalore. 527 24. So, we have to depend on the source in such a way that theamount of water that we get by rain or otherwise should bemore than the total amount use for domestic purpose, industrial purpose, agriculture purpose, for evaporation, forpercolation to meet the saturation point of the earth and soon. Not only this, and this total required amount we should getin aliquots continuously throughout the year. The bestsolution for the present demand in the Bangalore plateau is byinterlinking the tributaries of river Kaveri and utilising all thewater of river Kaveri and its tributaries only in Karnataka5. 28 25. Topic series: 462.Topic 1: How about using all the water of River Kaveri and itstributaries in Karnataka, if Tamilnadu gets better alternate source ofwater? Question9: How about creating only PC2 (Interlinking thetributaries of river Kaveri) and not bothering about Tamilnadu(Not thinking about creating PC1)? Answer: If we do so then neither Karnataka, nor Tamilnadu isgoing to benefit. If we create only PC2 then all the water ofriver Kaveri will start flowing in PC2 and the water level in thePC2 will decrease very fast because of rapid percolation in tothe soil as the soil of adjacent area that is Andrapradesh andTamilnadu is dry and dehydrated, which is through groundwater flow. Because of ground water flow, we may see somesprings in Tamilnadu and Andrapradesh which are adjacent toBangalore plateau. Thus the whole work will go waste for theGovernment of Karnataka.529 26. If the soil of the adjacent land like Tamilnadu andAndrapradesh contains adequate moisture, hydration andground water flow then the surface water in the canal which isinterlinking the tributaries of river Kaveri will flow in all theareas of Bangalore plateau due to decreased percolation andground water flow and will be useful for domestic, agricultureand industrial purpose through surface flow in PC2.530 27.
