Target audience The target audience for such a production as this would mainly consist of older

viewers who have taken a liking to the James Bond series. Partly perhaps of their liking for spy films and other related titles such as Oceans eleven, Bourne legacy etc but mostly because they would’ve most likely have already seen many of the previous titles of James Bond and therefore have a thorough experience and knowledge as to what sort of genre the film will follow.

The target audience will most likely consist of men and women ranging in ages from 20 up to around 55 but lately might also consist of younger viewers ranging from 13 upwards primarily due to the recent releases of media such as video games and younger rated films. Games such as Call of Duty and Battlefield are main reasons and the products responsible for capturing younger viewers interests in spy related films that consist of military weaponry as well as stealth missioning. All of these points are shown in James Bond and therefore would most likely capture the present younger generations interest.

To help find the appropriate target audience or to gather a suitable target audience for this production, Skyfall has been released alongside a number of other films that share similar genres in order to help show and set examples that relate to Skyfall and show what sort of footage the film will consist of. By doing this, younger viewers are given the opportunity to experience what sort of genre Skyfall could follow whilst older viewers are reminded of the genre that follow suit when it comes to James Bond films.

Genre James Bond is mainly a spy genre which normally consists

of a protagonist spy attempting to protect a specific culture from an organisation that hopes to ruins such a culture. The spy is always pitted against an evil character seeking to destroy one or all of these things, and it is up to the spy to stop him. To do so, the spy must use his superior courage, cleverness, wit, and skill to prevail. Good triumphs over evil, and government and society are preserved. However, the James Bond subgenre is better described as Post Classical, both in terms of chronology and substance meaning that James Bond usually follows this manner towards a spy genre film but with a more modern twist to it as appose to the classic spy films that were normally set around mid 90’s time periods. Knower days the genre has been made to consist of more action and special effects to suit modern day viewers appeals.

Country of exhibition Skyfall is planned to be released on October 26th 2012 and will be

premiered in three different countries including Los Angeles, Paris in France and London Lester square. The main cast and crew for the production are said to be attending the production in order to make the event much more popular to the public. As well as this the film will be premiered in numerous cinemas across the country though this is planned to happen two weeks after the first premiere in order to excite the public and get them talking about the over all result of the first premiere therefore filling them in on how the cast and crew found the finished product also.

Methods such as these are what boost the amount of money earned over all for the previous James Bond instalments, Goldfinger for example was released in 17 different countries ranging from Los Angeles to New York, London and Paris and managed to earn over all a worldwide gross of $124,900,000.

Production campaigns EON productions is the company best known for working on the James Bond

series. The company is based in London's Piccadilly and also operates from Pinewood Studios in the United Kingdom. It is a subsidiary of Danjaq LLC, the holding company responsible for the copyright and trademarks to the Bond characters and locations and plots on screen. They seem to understand the marketing techniques which suit these movies as well as the type of strategies that could assist with the promotion of the next upcoming movie. The intention of such a company as this to manage the running of the movie, looking to situations such as financing, marketing, equipment and organisation of the filming itself.

The production company worked on titles such as Dr.No, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You only live twice and On her majesty’s sweet service but ran as EON productions limited for more recent titles such as Tomorrow never dies, Die another day and Casino Royale.

How other films have been marketed

The three films listed below all show similar techniques and genres towards The James Bond franchise and therefore I though would be best suitable for discussing about marketing.

Tinker tailor soldier spy (2011) – This film shares a similar genre towards James Bond as both consist of spy/action genre like plot lines along with both being advertised through viral campaigns due to the high number of viewers who were already fans of the Tinker tailor soldier spy before it was even made into a film. The film topped the British box-office chart for three consecutive weeks and as of March 2012, Box Office Mojo reported that the film earned $80,135,388.

Black book (2006) – This film unlike James bond is set during the second world war but follows a similar genre. Before the film was released in 2006 much of the advertising was combined with the usage of posters which referenced the time period that it was intended to be in. with that country's highest box office gross of 2006. In 2008, the Dutch public voted it the best Dutch film ever.

Salt (2010) – Salt is an action thriller film that focuses mainly on a character on the run for being framed as a Russian sleeper agent. How this film relates to James bond is mainly shown through the action styled stunts and plots that are used as both cover similar ground when it comes to this genre. The film's marketing campaign included a panel at the San Diego Comic Con on July 2010, along with a web based game called "Day X Exists", where players performed missions to unveil the terrorist plot. It was released in North America on July 23, 2010 and August 18th in the United Kingdom, despite poster advertisements suggesting it would be released on August 20th 2010.
