AVIONICS

Avionics are the electronic systems used on aircraft, artificial satellites, and spacecraft Avionics = Aviation+ Electronics

PROGRESS

Here are some cockpits that tell the story.

Once there were no avionics-before1900.Then a little avionics showed up-1950’s.Then avionics filled up the available space -1970’s.Then avionics started getting smaller-1980.Presently, avionics is integrated into most of the aircraft systems.

BASIC INSTRUMENTS

TO DISPLAY INFORMATION ABOUT 1. ALTITUDE2. ATTITUDE(RELATIVE TO THE

HORIZON)3. DIRECTION 4. AIRSPEED5. RATE OF CLIMB(OR DESCENT)

Page 8: Avionic systems by sanju

Altimeter & Attitude indicator

Displays the aircraft altitude above a reference level(usually mean sea level)

Displays the aircraft attitude relative to the horizon

Magnetic compass & airspeed indicator

Displays the speed of the aircraft relative to surrounding air

Indicates the aircraft’s heading relative to magnetic north

Page 10: Avionic systems by sanju

Vertical speed indicator

Indicates the rate of climb or descent by sensing changes in air pressure

Navigation

Navigation is the determination of position and direction on or above the surface of the Earth.

• A conventional fixed-wing aircraft flight control system consists of flight control surfaces, the respective cockpit controls, connecting linkages, and the necessary operating mechanisms to control an aircraft's direction in flight.

• Aircraft engine controls are also considered as flight controls as they change speed.
