WHAT WILL MY TIMETABLE BE LIKE? Students can select their preferred timetables once enrolment opens subject to unit availability and unit selection requirements.

Trimesterised courses typically have classes 3-5 days per week, while semesterised courses generally have classes every day of the week.

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT? Students at the College are exposed to a variety of teaching methods designed to promote a stimulating learning experience. Lecturers provide an outline for each unit of study, and ensure students acquire the relevant knowledge and skills. Lecture groups average between 30 and 50 students.

The smaller class sizes at Curtin College ensure lecturers are able to get to know your personal study needs and will normally have more contact hours than in the equivalent undergraduate classes at the university.

Tutorials and seminars are designed to complement the preceding lectures and provide a workshop environment to ensure students receive dedicated attention from the lecturers.

Every effort is made to ensure academic success, however students are expected to undertake private study, usually at least one hour of study per hour of class per week, per unit.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?Students can expect a combination of written examinations, assignments, essays and presentations, depending on the area of study. Participation in seminars and tutorials is also taken into consideration. Coursework may include group projects and practical work.

CAN I GET CREDIT FOR PREVIOUS STUDY AND EXPERIENCE?Credit for Recognised Learning (CRL) enables students to complete specified Diploma courses in a shorter time than normal and is usually based on successful completion

of equivalent units of study at another institution. Applications for CRL should include the unit outline or syllabus for each unit and certified copies of academic transcripts showing successful completion of the units.

Curtin College also recognises the skills and knowledge students may have gained from life experiences, work experience and any training provided through previous employment.

Requests for CRL should be made at the time of application and prior to arrival in Australia to ensure that correct visas are issued. Approval of CRL after the student visa has been granted may require the College to report the change of course duration under Section 19 of the ESOS Act. The granting of a Curtin College Diploma is contingent on students having studied a minimum of credit points for the Diploma (Stage 2).

WHAT IS A PACKAGED OFFER? (INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ONLY) Current visa regulations allow students who wish to study a preliminary course(s) and a principal course (e.g. Diploma followed by a bachelor degree) to apply to have their program of study packaged onto one visa. Course packaging allows students to complete more than one course without having to re-apply for student visas or leave Australia to make the relevant applications. Students simply apply for a visa associated with the principal course. The visa granted will be for the duration of all courses within the packaged offer, provided you have been issued with an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) for each course. Design students wishing to enter Curtin Uni mid-year may have their period of study lengthened.

Curtin College provides a packaged offer that leads to your bachelor degree at Curtin University. Curtin College packages diplomas to single degrees, however if you wish to enrol in a double degree, you can do so by applying to Curtin at the end of your diploma.

“During my last year in high school, I started to worry about my future, about where I would study when I am done with secondary school. Whenever there is an education fair nearby, I would go along with my friends and family to spot out what college would be a good choice to go to. It seems that Curtin College has a remarkable reputation. I often hear good things about Curtin College from family, friends, and relatives. Even my agent recommended me Curtin College, since my Malaysian education could not get me straight to University, it would be a good option for me to go to Curtin College first and finish off my Bachelor in Curtin University.”

CALCULATION OF FEESThe tuition fees shown represent full-time study over the period indicated. This fee schedule should be read in conjunction with Curtin College’s published refund policy.

Tuition fees are payable in advance prior to the commencement of a study period. A levy may be payable if fees are not paid by the due date. Students can only re-enrol if the tuition fees have been paid. Students repeating a failed unit have to pay tuition fees for that unit again.

Fees are payable before each study period. Students pay the rate applicable for that academic year and not the rate of the year in which they began their course. Please note that fees are subject to an annual review. Tuition fees do not include textbooks, stationery or OSHC charges.

An ancillary fee or additional separate charge may apply to particular units (e.g. uniform, lab coat, etc.). Please refer to www.curtincollege.edu.au for further information.

Orientation dates are detailed on your welcome letter. We look forward to welcoming you to Curtin College at Curtin University!

OVERSEAS STUDENT HEALTH COVER (OSHC)All students applying for a student visa must obtain OSHC for the entire proposed duration of their visa before the visa can be granted. OSHC helps minimize medical expenses incurred whilst in Australia. Curtin College’s preferred provider is Allianz Global Assistance, which offers a high level of service and support to customers. Allianz customers have access to online help, telephone support, legal advice and assistance towards payment of covered medical bills. Not everything is covered by Allianz, so students should check their level of cover carefully, before committing themselves to receiving medical treatment or advice. Curtin College is pleased to arrange cover on behalf of students. The fees are shown in a student’s Letter of Offer. For further information see www.oshcallianzassistance.com.au.

If TPS cannot place the student in a suitable alternative course, a partial refund may apply. For more information on the TPS please refer to www.tps.gov.au and to the College’s tuition assurance for international students on the College’s website at www.curtincollege.edu.au/policies-curtin. International - In the unlikely event that Curtin College is unable to deliver a course in full, students will be offered a refund of course fees paid to date. The refund will be paid within two weeks of the day on which the course ceased being provided. Alternatively, students maybe offered enrolment in an alternative course by Curtin College at no extra cost. Students have the right to choose whether they would prefer a full refund of course fees, or to accept a place in another course. If they choose placement in another course, they will be asked to sign a document indicating they accept the placement. Local Students - Where Curtin College is unable to provide a refund or place a student in an alternative course its Tuition Assurance Scheme, ACPET’s Australian Student Tuition Assurance Scheme (ASTAS) will place the student in a suitable alternative course at no extra cost. 6.Deferment, Withdrawal, Suspension and Cancellation of a Student’s Enrolment. 6.1. Prior to commencing their course and subject to approval

students may apply in writing to defer course commencement to a later study period . Curtin College will credit any fees paid to the relevant study period without penalty. If the student subsequently withdraws, the Refund Policy will apply as at the date Curtin College received the request for deferment.

Curtin College recognizes that students may have the need to defer or withdraw from their course of study at Curtin College. Each request must be made in writing to the Director of marketing & Admissions (new students) or the Academic Director (enrolled students) or their nominees. Decisions on such requests will take into account information provided, circumstances leading to a request as well as regulatory requirements. Depending on the time the request is submitted an academic and financial penalty may apply (please refer to the Student Misconduct Policy & Refund Policy for details).

DeferralA student may request deferment prior to commencement of or during their course. The grounds for deferment include delay in receiving a student visa (prior to course commencement) or compelling and compassionate grounds e.g. Illness where a medical certificate states that the student is unable to attend classes, unexpected severe illness or death of a family member (prior to commencement or during the course). Students requesting deferment should apply to the College in writing stating their reasons for the requests and, where appropriate, supply relevant documentation.

WithdrawalA student may request to withdraw from their program of study at any time before and during the study period. Depending on the time the request is submitted an academic and financial penalty may apply.

Suspension or Cancellation Curtin College has the right to suspend or cancel a student’s enrolment or re-enrolment in response to serious misbehaviour or misconduct. Please refer to the Student Misconduct Policy and the Refund Policy for any financial and academic penalties that may apply. www.curtincollege.edu.au/policies-curtin

As a result, Curtin College is unable to enrol students from another registered provider prior to the student completing six months of their principal course of study, unless a letter of release is provided by the original provider. Students who apply to transfer after accepting their enrolment offer, but before starting classes, will not be approved except in extreme circumstances such as: Inability to secure an Australian visa or for Compassionate and compelling circumstancesA student requesting a transfer must satisfy Curtin College management that they have a genuine and legitimate basis for such a request. Curtin College students who are unsuccessful in their request to transfer prior to completing six months of their principal course are entitled to appeal that decision. A letter of release will be provided where it is considered to be in the student’s best interest to transfer. Where a student is under 18 years of age, written confirmation is required from the student’s parent/legal guardian before the request can be processed. Students should familiarise themselves with all Curtin College Policies at www.curtincollege.edu.au/policies-curtin.
