Writing: Organisation examples writing roster Purpose? Apps we use...Quick voice:Great for children who are verydistracted at writing time and losetheir story and their focus. Great forboys who start writing and forgetwhat they were going to write!!!Plug in headphones to the iPad, childrecords story, plays back, writessentence etc. 8. Writing:Write About ThisThis app is great forwriting motivation.Children can either use anexisting picture and writeabout that or take theirown photo, write about itand also record.(school has lite versionwhich means cant printbut children take screenshot as evidence orwriting. There is now a NZversion. 9. Writing:Puppet PalsWe have used PuppetPals 1 & 2 for either amotivation to write (ie.they create first and thenwrite) or as a publishingtool where they can bringtheir story to life for anaudience.A copy of the blog postwent in this boys writingbook alongside theoriginal story he wrote. 10. Writing:Book Creator:Each week the children have a turnat writing in their digital book. Thesehave been set up with a link toDropbox so they can be shared withfamily. The children have an iPad writingday for their group each week. (seeroster)We use the paid version of BookCreator to get the full benefits (i.e.being able to make multiple books onthe app) 11. Writing - Hands On Session Setting up class digital books Doodle Buddy - Book CreatorMany ways to use...draw a picture inDoodle Buddy, take a photo of event ornews, take a video...etcOr explore Write About This on our class iPads 12. ReadingOrganisation examples...reading fluency rosterPurpose??Video App:Most children love the sound of theirown voice and they love the videocamera on the iPad. We use thevideo app daily for children who needto increase their fluency. For somechildren it has really hooked theminto reading and their progress hasbeen amazing. It requires very little organisation maybe just a roster so they knowwho is on which iPad. The childrennever forget a turn on the iPad!3 weeks later 13. ReadingPopplet App:We use the free version of Popplet. This means we cant save a projectto work on another day however thechildren mostly finish in the sameday. It is easy to export their work tothe camera roll.We use the Popplet app as a followup activity to reading. The children can choose a character take a photo in the app and writewords to describe the character inpopples around the picture. Or theycan do a retellendless possiblities! 14. Reading:Dropbox App:We have put many of ourMP4 files from the Readyto Read series intoDropbox so the childrencan access them to listento. It is a great activity inour reading rotations orfollow up or introductionto a guided reading text.We have also put instories from other seriesin Dropbox (eg. JoyCowley, Bear Stories)These files can only beaccessed by iPadslogged into our classaccount. 15. ReadingExplain Everything:We use this app in many waysas it is so adaptable to anysituation/any curriculum area. Some ways we use it in readingare: retelling a story eg. drawa picture of something inthe story or take aphoto..use the recordfunction to retell the story take a photo of a book, children write adescription of a characterin the book sequencing - beginningmiddle end - a slide foreach 16. Reading - Hands OnExplain EverythingTask:Choose a reader from the table.Take a photo of your favourite page in the story then write your name somewhereon the page.Record what happened in this part of the story using the record function on ExplainEverything.Save your movie then export it to the camera roll.Dont forget to put your name somewhere on the page.Orusing Popplet..take photos of all the characters in the Im the King of theMountain reader. Your title will be Characters in Im the king of the mountain.Dont forget to write your name in one of the Popples. 17. Maths Organisation examples Purpose? This app isnt onthe childrens ipads justmine. 18. MathsSubitising AppI use this is as ateaching tool forwarm upmaintenance. The exampleon the right shows achild recording theirthinking after Ipresented a problem.Example ofSubitising app 19. MathsExplain EverythingThere are many ways ofusing Explain Everything inmaths. It is a great app forindividual use or collaborativegroup work. We love itbecause when you are busyworking with a group thechildren are working and lateryou can hear and see whatthe children were doing. Weprint out the NZ Mathsproblems, take a photo inapp then record the problem. 20.
