DIGIPAK RESEARCH

FLATPLAN 1

This is a very simplistic, straightforward net that consists of a front, back, disc place, and a couple inside panels. We are very attracted to this one as there are infinite possibilities we can implement, in terms of pictures of pictures on each individual net, or the use of lyrics, etc. Also, we can experiment with different themes that will help to make the digipak stand out. The image above right is a professional digipak that has used the template of the net above left. We found that they were very successful as they were able to use a good mixture of colors aswell as being able to stay to the genre of the music; Rock.

FLATPLAN 2

This originally caught our eye due to its simplicity. Also this was a different design to the usual digipaks you see, so it appealed to us as the people included in our video are on the edge of the society and are not the ‘norm’ so this design was representative of that message. Above centre is an example of another media group’s attempts to implement this design, after seeing this we were not as sure if this was the design we wanted to take, as from the example it seems we may not be able to include all the things we wanted to as we may not have enough space, and the theme/background we would be able to get on the previous flat plan seems more enticing than what we would have for this one.

FLATPLAN 3

The simplistic flat plans seem to have attracted us very much. We were interested by this one as it had a bit more space to work with than the previous one, and thus gave us more options, in terms of what we could choose to put on the individual nets. The nature of the extended boxes gave us the dilemma of deciding if it would be better to fill the space or just have little messages or pictures on them, and this ultimately made us decide not to use this flat plan as there was a clash of opinions within the group.

DECISION

We all felt that this was the design we wanted to go forward with, as there was a lot of space to work with thus each individual from the group would be able to have an input and we could compromise. Although this is a standard flat plan and does not represent the message of our video (accepting imperfections, people on edge of society) as well as the second flat plan would have, we felt that this worked as, the standard template could perhaps acts as a symbol for what is perceived as the ‘normal’ life that most people strive for.
