OUR TOWN

The serrounding areas of the town…

An introduction to the School☼ In 1940 was inaugurated the School☼ This is a free Private School. There are 250 children at the Centre. The children who attends the Primary school are from 4 to 12 years old. ☼ The School is set in a rural context (families works in farms nearby) Milky farms and Agricultural Mostly of the kid’s parents, who attends the School, have incomplete schooling and work very long hours☼ Some children lives during the week with older brothers or sisters others with only the motherIn many cases going to School is the only way of channels of culture as they do not have any books, newspapers, TV, electronic appliances, etc. ☼ In some cases the kids presents behavioural problems and learning difficulties, caused by poor nutrition, poor health and hygiene conditions and situation of violence and marginalization in the family☼ Another important fact is that there is a low % of recurrence (repetition) thanks to the efforts of the teachers

How and why they want CDL’ PSA donation

They want to create a Learning Training Centre

Where the children can stay after school to have a place where they can find books, encyclopaedias, maps, audiovisual materials, TV – DVD, playful mathematical films, table games, Computer, Internet access

PURPOSE OF DONATION FROM THE PSA CHARITY COMMITEE

Plumbing and sanitations repairs (at the moment the situation is critical because of water shortages or flooding, leakages)

Playground repairs. It is damaged due to poor drainage, erosion, use, and the insistent presence of ants, termites.

New heaters (at the moment the classrooms are heated by old gas stoves, very risky to children’s health. An upgrade of them is proposed. Other places such as the dinning room are not heated at all. Winters are hard in Uruguay, temperatures can reach below O centigrade.

Sports equipment for the children. We encourage sport activities among all the children since they are small, and coming from vulnerable households. Usually they have to play with rudimentary equipment, sometimes even made from recycled materials. Hence we would invest in new and upgraded tools to stimulate the children in sports activities.
