CANDACE JILL JOHNSON I was born and raised in Duluth, MN. I was very active in sports and clubs growing up. I enjoyed playing basketball, softball, golf, and running track. I was involved in leadership groups and community volunteer programs throughout my school years. I graduated from the College of St. Scholastica with an elementary K-6 licensure and a coaching certification. I moved to Blaine, MN after getting married and worked for 4 years as a teacher in the Anoka Hennepin School District. I took a leave from teaching after starting my family and now am the proud mother to 4 children: ages 7, 11, 14, and 15. I continue to coach youth sports and volunteer as a youth leader at my church. I have recently went back to teaching and worked as a substitute teacher in the Elk River School District for 2 years and 2012-13 school year in the Anoka Hennepin School District as a Supplemental Teacher. I love children and teaching is my passion. I enjoy helping students find that special spark and light that shines within them. TEACHING PHILOSOPHY As a teacher my number one goal is to gain leverage for the students I teach, the staff I collaborate with, and the community I serve. I will do this by using my assets, my time, and my resources for their benefit. I believe that all children have special gifts and abilities that need fostering and that by helping students see that they are important and smart, they will be able to tap into their true potential as academic learners and successful members of society. One of the attributes I feel is necessary in being an outstanding teacher is being a good listener. Taking the time to hear what students have to say and valuing and encouraging their questions helps develop confident learns. It is also integral in successful lesson planning, interventions, and assessment. I do lots and lots of listening to this cutie! 5.
