Dear SJV Families
Today the school welcomed our Prep students’ grandparents and VIPs for a special
morning to recognise their important role in the lives of the children. Grandparents can
play a very special part in communicating faith and values to their grandchildren. In
their calling as “elders in faith’ they have wonderful gifts to offer.
Self Worth – Children feel great when their grandparents give them positive
recognition and unconditional love.
Heritage – Whether they are close by or far away, grandparents give their children a
sense of their identity and belonging.
Acceptance – Children need to know that the adults who are important to them accept
their enthusiasms, ideas and activities. Such acceptance by grandparents is
hugely affirming for children.
Love – The gift of “I will be there for you at all times, no matter what” – whether spoken
aloud, written in a letter, or shown by actions – will always be the most treasured
and remembered gift of all.
School Board
The SJV School Board gathered on Tuesday evening. Our School Board is an advisory
body of parents and staff who provide advice regarding financial and policy matters to
the Principal and Parish Priest. At Tuesday’s meeting the board finalised the 2017
School Fees schedule and discussed the 2017 school budget. The priority during this
process has been keeping school fees affordable as well as meeting the school's 2017
financial obligations. Information will be sent to families in the near future.
P&F Annual General Meeting
Our P&F AGM will be held next Tuesday 25 October at 7:00pm in the Philomena
Building. The school really values the wonderful support of the SJV P&F Association so
it would be great to have a large number of parents and friends attend this meeting.

GRANDPARENTS’ DAY FOR PREP FAMILIES
Blessing
Dear God, please bless our grandparents.
Thank you for the life they gave our parents and for the life they
give to us.
For the ways they helped us and made us strong, we give thanks.
For the ways they love us no matter what, we rejoice.
For the ways they have paved the road that leads us here, we are
grateful. Let them grow in wisdom and joy in life.
Let them find peace and rest from their work.
Let them be healed of every sickness and pain.
And let them see with their own eyes the glory of your Son,
Jesus,
in the love of their children and grandchildren.
Bless them always until they come to rest in you.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Tip for the Week: People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing – Dale Carnegie
Swimming Program
The School Swimming Program is well under way and it is being warmly received by all the students. It is great to see them having fun whilst learning a new physical activity in a water environment. The program is focussing on water safety for the youngest students and stroke correction for the middle years. Our Year 6 girls have a special Water Polo Program, which will give them an opportunity to improve these skills where it is
offered as a competitive sport in the Secondary schools they are heading to next year.
I would encourage parents and carers to continue with further swimming lessons for their children once the school program comes to an end.
HPE Classes
As the weather warms up, I seek the assistance of all parents and carers to ensure the students come to school every day with the regulation
school hat and water bottle. It is also recommended that children have sunscreen for all year levels.
Thank you for your continued support of ‘all things sport’ at SJV.

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC
Following the 'Meet the Instruments' Concert last week, if your child is interested in being part of the school band in 2017, please return the Expression of Interest form to the office. We will be testing for instrument suitably Thursday 27th October. Parent Information Evening for the Music
program is Wednesday 2nd November at 7pm in the school hall. For more information please contact: [email protected]
SCHOOL BANKING
We are calling on volunteers for 2017 to commit to the school’s Commonwealth Banking program. Two of the current banking coordinators are "retiring" after many years of commitment and hard work to this program, and will need to be replaced if our banking is to continue. We meet weekly on a Tuesday afternoon before school pickup, but this can be a flexible arrangement depending on the number of volunteers. If you are interested in continuing banking into next year, please contact the office or Vanessa on 0429 539 219. Lastly, many thanks go to our hard working and retiring coordinators, who between them have been part of the program for almost 10 years! A huge thank you from the school community to Vanessa Harrison and Robyn Furjes. Your tireless efforts are greatly appreciated.

ST JOHN VIANNEY’S P&F ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
