The St. John Vianney RCIA Team
The St. John Vianney RCIA team recruits members of our church who “should shine in the fruit of the Holy Spirit, namely in love, joy, peace, patience and kindness.” (Gal. 5:22-23). They should be practicing Catholics, mature in their faith, and loyal to the Church. The team consists of spiritual advisors and catechists who offer instruction to newcomers in the Catholic way of life. These cat echists are chosen in response to the great commission of Jesus to all the faithful: “Go there fore and make dis ciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit” (Mt. 28: 19-20). We mean to share our joy in Jesus by witnessing and by example. Sponsors will assist can didates in our Journey of Faith.
The RCIA program was created for the benefit of the inquirers, “Thus you shall remember and do all my commandments, and you shall be holy to your God.” (Num 15:40). Join us in this year’s Journey of Faith to “Love and serve the Lord.”
Where We Meet: If you are interested in exploring the Catholic Faith in a relaxed, informal setting, you are invited to sit in on a few classes. We meet in the Columbus Room (downstairs in the Church) from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Thursday nights.
The RCIA ProgramWe begin our Journey of Faith on Thursday, September 10, 2015, and follow the Liturgical Calendar that ends on Pentecost Sunday. Phase One: A period of time set aside to get acquainted with the church and its members, obtain answers to ques-tions regarding the faith, and to consider whether the Catholic faith is right for you. This phase is called “the period of inquiry.”Phase Two: The “Rite of Acceptance into the Catechu-menate.” This acknowledges the intention of the inquir-ers to continue their journey toward full membership into the Catholic Faith and involves study and training in the Catholic way of life. Phase Three: Father Daly (with a blessing) sends forth the candidates and the catechumens to the Bishop for the “Rite of Election” where they then become “The Elect.”Phase Four: This phase of “Purification and Enlighten-ment” takes place during the Lenten Season, in prepara-tion for the joy of Easter, when the faithful are called to express their sincere repentance and heart-felt acceptance into Catholic Faith.
The RCIA, a program of the Catholic Church, is for those who are searching and inquiring about the Catholic way of life. Through the RCIA, the Catholic Church extends an invitation to:
