GRANDPARENTS’ DAY FOR PREP FAMILIES

Blessing

Dear God, please bless our grandparents.

Thank you for the life they gave our parents and for the life they

give to us.

For the ways they helped us and made us strong, we give thanks.

For the ways they love us no matter what, we rejoice.

For the ways they have paved the road that leads us here, we are

grateful. Let them grow in wisdom and joy in life.

Let them find peace and rest from their work.

Let them be healed of every sickness and pain.

And let them see with their own eyes the glory of your Son,

Jesus,

in the love of their children and grandchildren.

Bless them always until they come to rest in you.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Tip for the Week: People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing – Dale Carnegie

Swimming Program

The School Swimming Program is well under way and it is being warmly received by all the students. It is great to see them having fun whilst learning a new physical activity in a water environment. The program is focussing on water safety for the youngest students and stroke correction for the middle years. Our Year 6 girls have a special Water Polo Program, which will give them an opportunity to improve these skills where it is

offered as a competitive sport in the Secondary schools they are heading to next year.

I would encourage parents and carers to continue with further swimming lessons for their children once the school program comes to an end.

HPE Classes

As the weather warms up, I seek the assistance of all parents and carers to ensure the students come to school every day with the regulation

school hat and water bottle. It is also recommended that children have sunscreen for all year levels.

Thank you for your continued support of ‘all things sport’ at SJV.

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC

Following the 'Meet the Instruments' Concert last week, if your child is interested in being part of the school band in 2017, please return the Expression of Interest form to the office. We will be testing for instrument suitably Thursday 27th October. Parent Information Evening for the Music

SCHOOL BANKING

We are calling on volunteers for 2017 to commit to the school’s Commonwealth Banking program. Two of the current banking coordinators are "retiring" after many years of commitment and hard work to this program, and will need to be replaced if our banking is to continue. We meet weekly on a Tuesday afternoon before school pickup, but this can be a flexible arrangement depending on the number of volunteers. If you are interested in continuing banking into next year, please contact the office or Vanessa on 0429 539 219. Lastly, many thanks go to our hard working and retiring coordinators, who between them have been part of the program for almost 10 years! A huge thank you from the school community to Vanessa Harrison and Robyn Furjes. Your tireless efforts are greatly appreciated.

ST JOHN VIANNEY’S P&F ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

As the end of the 2016 P&F year fast approaches, we would like to invite parents and community members to the P&F Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 25 October at 7pm in the Philomena Building. Come along a little earlier and join the existing Committee for refreshments from 6.45pm onwards.

At this meeting, we will be electing office bearers for the 2017 P&F Committee. All committee positions will be de-clared open and we are looking to fill the vacated positions with enthusiastic people who are willing to contribute a small amount of their time and new ideas to continue on the good work of previous dedicated committees. We need plenty of support on the night and some keen new (or old) faces to fill vacant positions.

The role of the P&F in our school provides us with many worthwhile benefits, including:
