CFA Monthly Observatory Nights. The Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics sponsors free Observatory Nights, held on the third Thursday of the month. Observatory Nights feature a nontechnical lecture and telescopic observing from the observatory roof if weather permits. Seating is first-come, first-served. Thursday, September 20, 7:30PM, “The Search for Primitive and Intelligent Life on Other Planets,” Phillips Auditorium, 60 Garden St.

• Monday, September 17, 6PM—Saving Coral Reefs in the Florida Keys. James Porter will explain how Key West residents are saving local coral reefs from a human bacterial pathogen that has critically endangered them. He will highlight the intricate links among

conservation, medicine, public health, economics, and politics. This lecture is free. Geological Lecture Hall, 24 Oxford St.

• Wednesday, September 19, 7PM— The Harvard Law School Criminal Justice Institute's 2018 Trailblazer Lecture: Jemele Hill. Harvard Law School’s Criminal Justice Institute is sponsoring its 2018 Trailblazer Lecture. This annual event is designed to honor and learn from persons who have made a significant impact in the area of criminal justice and social justice reform. Jemele Hill is an Emmy Award-winning journalist; Chief Correspondent and Senior Columnist for The Undefeated, ESPN’s content initiative exploring the intersections of sports, race, and culture; and recipient of The National Association of Black Journalist 2018 Journalist of the Year Award. • Wednesday, September 26, 4:30-5:30PM—Richard Montañez: The Importance of Diversity in Sparking Innovation. Meet Richard Montañez in person before Fox Searchlight Pictures releases their biopic movie "Flamin' Hot". His story of pushing through adversity and battling issues of inclusion and belonging in the workplace will amaze you, and

his entrepreneurial and innovative spirit is infectious. As the creator of the cultural phenomenon, “Flamin’ Hot Cheetos,” he notes, “There was something special about being different.” Come learn from him how to prepare yourself to “walk through different doors.” Don’t miss hearing his riveting, personal story of growing up in a migrant farm camp to now living in Beverly Hills.
