FOCUS: POETIC DEVICES Text: ‘My Mouse is Misbehaving’: https://www.poetry4kids.com/poems/my-mouse-is-misbehaving/ Task: Descriptive poems: Some poems tell a story and use words that have two meanings to add humour. After listening to this poem, write the heading ‘My Mouse is Misbehaving’ in your workbook. Explain in your own words why you think this poem is funny. Use an example from the text to help explain. Independent Reading: Students read their take home books and/or other Just Right books they may have at home. Active Learn is also available for use at home: ActiveLearn: Login (activelearnprimary.com.au)

Writing

FOCUS: I LIKE POEM (PART 1) Daily Practise: Adjectives Describe the pictures below (page 7) using most creative adjectives. Once you have thought of 6 amazing adjectives, write 2 sentences using some of your adjectives to describe both the kingfisher bird, and the cat. Task: Listen to Miss Shacklock explaining this task through the following link: https://youtu.be/QPxqYLXpdW8 You will complete this task in your workbook. Use the 5 senses table here to assist you with your writing. Your task is to write 2 descriptive sentences for each of the 5 senses (that is 10 sentences altogether). You can use the pictures in the table as inspiration. Remember each of your sentences must start with, I like. Eg: I like the feel of a bubbly milkshake popping on my tongue.

Maths

Today, write out all the numbers you would say if you were skip counting by 3s and 4s (keep this because it will help you to complete tomorrow’s practise activity!) Task: Your task today is on Seesaw. Follow along with the Powerpoint before completing the task ‘Spoon Challenge’. Challenge: Janine needs to fill a bucket with 2 litres (2000ml) of water. She has containers that hold the following amounts: 200ml, 250ml, 500ml, 750ml. Give three different ways that Janine can fill the bucket (you can use each container more than once).

BQT FOCUS: WEATHER Introduction: There are 2 clips for you to watch to introduce you to all sorts of Weather and to find out how to be a Weather Tracker this week. 1. Click on this link https://youtu.be/ylbkGo_mUf0 to view a Weather powerpoint

Can you give an example of how you might show the value of friendship, determination and courage? Eg: I can show the value of friendship by… Once you have answered these 3 questions, complete the Values Word Search at the end of the planner.

Day 5

Reading

FOCUS: MAKING CONNECTIONS Text: ‘The Voice’ by Shel Silverstein (This poem is available at the end of the document) Task: Read the poem. Write and draw about a connection to the poem. Does it remind you of something you’ve done before? Does it remind you of something else you’ve read? Does it remind you of something you’ve seen or heard about? What type of connection did you make? Independent Reading: Students read their take home books and/or other Just Right books they may have at home. Active Learn is also available for use at home: ActiveLearn: Login (activelearnprimary.com.au)

Writing

FOCUS: CREATIVE WRITING Daily Practise: Spelling- Ask an adult to go through some of your home learning tasks and select some words you have misspelt. Use the activities on the ‘spelling at home’ sheet at the end of the planner to help you improve your spelling. Task: Narrative Writing Today you get to write a story. Let your imagination run wild! The only requirement for this story is that the problem must be weather related. Think about how the weather could cause a problem in your story and how your character then has to solve this problem. There could be a storm, a cyclone, flooding, a severe heat wave, a drought or snow, just to name a few. Think about how this could create an engaging story. I know Isaiah is looking for some stories to steal for assembly!

Thing to remember when you write a narrative:

● Have I introduced the main character/characters so the reader can visualise them?

● Do I have a setting for my story? ● Have I used adjectives to describe my character and

setting? ● Is the problem in my story weather related? ● Do I have a solution to my problem?

● Have I used capital letters and full stops correctly? ● Have I read over my writing to make sure it makes

sense? ● Have I checked for correct spelling of words that I am

familiar with? ● Am I proud of my story and will Isaiah want to steal it

for assembly next week?

Maths

FOCUS: CAPACITY- Problem Solving Daily Practise: If you have the Targeting Maths app, go into ‘Training’ then choose ‘Measurement’. From there choose volume or capacity. Have fun! If you don’t have the app, have another go at the subtraction from 100 task from Week 7. Start with 100. Roll a dice or turn over a card then subtract that number from 100 e.g. 100-8=92. Then start with that number, roll the dice or turn a card and subtract the amount from your previous total e.g. 92-6=86. Repeat until you get very close to zero. Task: Your task for today is on Seesaw. Take your time. Use all of the information to solve the problem. Challenge: Create a video explaining volume and capacity for our Grade One friends.

BQT

FOCUS: WEATHER This week you have been tracking the weather each day and maybe watching the TV weather report to become more familiar with how weather is described and spoken about. Weather affects what we wear each day, the activities we do and have planned, even our moods and the way we feel. Your Task: You will be presenting a Weather Report. Go onto Seesaw to learn more, and when finished to share with your teacher. There is a My Weather Report template, and Word Bank to support your writing, at the end of the planner.
