BROADCAST PREMIER!PAESANI

November 22 @ 8pm

Paesani is an...original documentary film that chronicles the massive immigration of more than four million Italians to the United States between 1890 and 1930, and the enduring culture these people imbued into American society. Of the twenty-three million people who emigrated from foreign countries to live in the United States by the start of World War One, nearly five million were from Italy - peasant famers from the southern provinces below Naples and the business and professional classes living in the north near cities such as Genoa and Milan. All sought to escape the consequences created by Italy's social, political and economic stagnation. To many Americans, an Italian was a cultural infection of both contagious disease and religious superstition. Those who stayed helped create modern America, profoundly influencing all facets of life here. Paesani blends remarkable first-person recollections of Italian immigration and historical details that charactize these experiences with personal memories of Italian traditions that produced family values which continue to define Italian-American culture.

New things from WVIA V-MediaAccepting student created content!

WVIA is asking students to create and submit a one minute journalistic piece suitable for FM broadcast. The piece should be in the vein of an NPR news story and must include sound effects, narration and interview. The topic can be of local interest, but must be able to serve a general audience. For example, bullying in schools, gas drilling, environmental projects, the value of standardized testing, etc - Any topic that the student can use a local example of a widespread issue is welcome. The suitable pieces will be aired in the afternoon on WVIA FM around All Things Considered. We encourage the advising faculty member to have the students listen to several episodes of ATC in order to get a feel for the flow of the piece. All pieces must be submitted via email as MP3 files.

Premier your student's work and creativity on WVIA 2!We would like to invite your students to submit a 30second PSA to be aired on WVIA2. The topics can be about anything of interest to the teen and young adult population. The winner will be honored on our Scholastic Achievement Awards Show in May. Any inappropriate content will not be considered to air. For more information, contact Andrea O'Neill at 602-1182 or andreao'[email protected]
