Sarah Sampson is an award-winning producer and director who joined Maryland Public Television in 2013 to work on the station's new weekly series, Maryland Farm & Harvest . In 2014, Mrs. Sampson was promoted to the position of series producer and director for the popular MPT program. In this role, she manages production of the series, including segment selection, review and approval of scripts, and post production, while also directing field production and producing 10 or more episode segments during each season. She has earned six Emmy Award nominations from the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Television Academy of Arts and Sciences for her work on Maryland Farm & Harvest . The series is now in its sixth season. Mrs. Sampson can point to a number of favorite moments during her years working on the program. Among them is a segment that provided series viewers a close-up view of the excitement and drama surrounding the annual Maryland Hunt Cup steeplechase horse race in Baltimore County, and an episode she produced that heightened public awareness about the tangible impacts of climate change on farms along Maryland shorelines. Prior to joining MPT, Mrs. Sampson worked as a reporter at WBAL-TV in Baltimore and adjunct instructor at Hood College, teaching broadcast reporting and writing. Earlier she served for three years as a reporter and producer at WGRZ-TV in Buffalo, NY. While there she was recognized with the New York State Associated Press Broadcasters Award for her work on a feature story, and was nominated in 2011 by the Buffalo Broadcasters Association for its Rising Star Award. In addition, as part of the WGRZ-TV news team, she earned a national Edward R. Murrow Award for overall excellence. She earned a bachelor's degree from the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at University of Maryland, College Park. While still in school, Mrs. Sampson was as a freelance reporter in The Baltimore Sun's Harford County Bureau and worked as an associate producer and assignment editor at WBAL-TV. Following graduation, she served as a reporter and weekend anchor at WHAG-TV in Hagerstown before heading to the position in Buffalo.
