PIERRE, S.D. -- Patty Nerison’s dreams came true through a $594,260 Dakota Cash jackpot.

Nerison claimed the prize Monday after purchasing her ticket at the CrossRoads C-Store in Rosholt. The Sisseton resident played Dakota Cash on a weekly basis before her win, but the location of her purchase proved to be a unique one that was worthwhile.

“It was just a spur of the moment thing,” Nerison said. “I woke up from a nap and told my husband I was going to buy a ticket. I think someone in my dream told me to go there.”

While Nerison’s jackpot-winning prize was the result of the June 26 drawing, she didn’t realize she won until Friday evening. She notes that her daughter told her the winning ticket was purchased in Rosholt, but nerves prevented her from learning her fate.

“Thursday, I went to a casino where my daughter works,” Nerison said. “She asked if I bought tickets

Helen Arpan from Dupree, SD was our last top prize winner of the Trucks and Bucks® scratch game. This winning ticket was purchased at The Gas Stop #108 in Mobridge, SD.

Kimberly Moore from Casper WY, was the South Dakota Lottery first Polaris Ranger winner. This ticket was purchased at the Corner Pantry #12 in Custer, SD. Kimberly and her husband Rickie were very excited when they realized what they had won. They were able to pick up their prize at their local Polaris dealer.

The Moores showed their enthusiasm by saying, “ We picked it up this morning and spent all afternoon riding it on Casper mountain! We absolutely love it! Thank you and everybody that helped us in this process! We love going to South Dakota as you are right next door. We will be back very soon and we’ll definitely buy more scratch tickets! Thank you, again!”

Patty wasted no time sharing the jubilation with her husband, Larry. The pair said they plan to pay off their debt and share some of the prize with their four children and 13 grandchildren.

“The best part about winning is just knowing that we are finally going to be debt free,” Patty said. “We can go have some fun, buy a new house and spend some on my grandchildren.”

Prior to her big win, Patty preferred Dakota Cash because it’s only offered in South Dakota and she enjoyed the game’s odds of winning. While she notes that she may stop playing Dakota Cash now that she’s won, she may test her luck on the rest of the South Dakota Lottery’s lineup.

Her playing style may change in the future, but Patty left her fellow lotto players with some encouraging words as they chase their dreams of a jackpot.

“Keep trying,” Patty said. “You gotta play to win.”

The front counter display at Family Fare in Baken Park, Rapid City is featured to the right. The display has everything the Lottery has to offer to help boost sales and inform customers.

There are many ways to display and draw attention to Lottery products and promotions. Signs on gas pumps, near the check out counter, on a cart corral, front windows, or even a play area can be created for customers. If you are interested in setting up a Promo Lottery Day or creating a playing area, just contact your Sales Representative to get started.

The photos to the left showcase the newly remodeled Coffee Cup, near Burbank, at the intersection of highway 50 and I29. The entire renovation took about two and half years to complete.

NEW TERMINALS /SYSTEMThe installations of new South Dakota Lottery terminals have been completed. Training on the new system will start the week of October 7 and run through October 14. This will include training on the new terminal hardware and new retailer portal, “Retailer Wizard”

It is an exciting time for the South Dakota Lottery. The new system is a “nuts to bolts” replacement for the existing system. The last lotto system conversion was August 2009.
