You should always seek the help of apodiatrist for the following:
• Routine preventative foot care forpeople with diabetes and other chronichealth conditions, such as peripheral
arterial disease (PAD)
• Wound care, especially for those withdiabetes
• Nerve symptoms such as numbness,tingling, or burning sensations in the
feet
• Prescription and dispensing of customorthotics and diabetic shoes
• Any painful condition such as heel orjoint pain
• Ingrown toenail removal
• Toenail infection, discoloration, orchange in thickness
• Skin infections or lesions such as warts
• Evaluation of foot structure andfunction and treatment of any disorderssuch as flat feet, high arches, bunions, or
hammer toes
• Traumatic conditions such as a sprainor tendonitis

Service Includes:
•Soothing foot bath
• Inspection of feet and lower legs and palpation of pedal pulses
•Toenail trimming and filing
•Callus and corn reduction
•Foot massage
•Education/recommendations
•Referral if needed
•UV germicidal treatment for 1 pair of shoes
Service lasts 45 min.
In addition to practicing good basicfoot care, people with diabetes should
also do the following:
• Maintain good blood glucosecontrol.
• Inspect your feet every day.
• Apply lotion on tops and bottoms offeet (not between toes) to keep skin
supple and smooth.
• Be active and exercise routinely.
• Always wear appropriate socks andshoes, and never go barefoot.
• Avoid exposure to heat and cold.
• See your podiatrist or healthcareprovider for a complete foot exam atleast once a year, and more often if
you already have foot problems.
Taking proper care of your feet isimportant to maintain foot health and
prevent serious problems. You should:
• Cleanse your feet regularly using mildsoap and warm water. Dry thoroughly,
especially between the toes.
• Trim your toenails straight across andfile the corners, being careful not to cut
them too short.
• Check your feet regularly for cracks,calluses, blisters, sores, or any other areas
of irritation and redness.
• Make sure your shoes fit properly.
• Alternate your shoes—don't wear thesame pair of shoes every day.
• Wear clean socks. Avoid tight socks orstockings.
• Avoid walking barefoot. This increasesyour risk of injury and infection.
Remember to use sunscreen on your feetwhen you wear sandals or go to the beach.
