of Easter

Dear parish family,

It seems like forever since we've been together... the quiet in the rectory is deafening. I can't wait for us to be together again... Father Bruno and I are praying for you each day and remembering you at Mass. It's good to see so many people stopping in front of the rectory for Adoration. I just ask that as you gather, please keep a safe social distance from those around you! I hope that everyone is praying the rosary each day out of love for our Blessed Mother and for the end of the virus.

We have received a Payroll Protection Program loan/grant from the government which will allow us to restore the staff and cover payroll and benefits for a few weeks.

I am grateful to all those who have continued their weekly support of the parish... like you, so many of our regular expenses continue during the pandemic. We are doing the best we can to manage our income.

This past week was NURSES APPRECIATION WEEK and TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK. We are grateful to all nurses and teachers for their extraordinary dedication and commitment, especially during this difficult time.

There are many openings for Mass Intentions. Please call the rectory during regular hours to arrange for your Mass intentions.

Even though the office is closed to the public, I am grateful to the parish staff for their continued hard work... There is a lot of behind the scenes work that happens to keep the parish going.

Let's all keep praying with and for each other and for the country.

Peace and blessings,

Father Peter

God and Father of all gifts, we praise you, the source of all who we are. Teach us to acknowledge always with generous gratitude the many good things your infinite love has given us, as together we support the work of the Church in Brooklyn and Queens. Open our hearts that we

may answer your call to follow the message of the Gospel as disciples in love and service, so that all may come to know You by the example of our faith and good works. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with your and the Holy Spirit, on God, for ever and ever. Amen

Prayer for the Canonization of

Father Michael J. McGivney God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your venerable servant Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Pope Francis’s First Prayer for the Intercession of Mary during the Pandemic O Mary, you always shine on our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who at the cross took part in Jesus’ pain, keeping your faith firm.

You, Salvation of Your People, know what we need, and we are sure you will provide so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and to feasting after this time of trial.

Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who has taken upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows to lead us, through the cross, to the joy of the resurrection. Amen.

Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not disdain the entreaties of we who are in trial, but deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.

Pope Francis’s Second Prayer for the Intercession of Mary during the Pandemic “We fly to your protection, O Holy Mother of God”.

In the present tragic situation, when the whole world is prey to suffering and anxiety, we fly to you, Mother of God and our Mother, and seek refuge under your protection.

Virgin Mary, turn your merciful eyes towards us amid this coronavirus pandemic. Comfort those who are distraught and mourn their loved ones who have died, and at times are buried in a way that grieves them deeply. Be close to those who are concerned for their loved ones who are sick and who, in order to prevent the spread of the disease, cannot be close to them. Fill with hope those who are troubled by the uncertainty of the future and the consequences for the economy and employment.

Mother of God and our Mother, pray for us to God, the Father of mercies, that this great suffering may end and that hope and peace may dawn anew. Plead with your divine Son, as you did at Cana, so that the families of the sick and the victims be comforted, and their hearts be opened to confidence and trust. Protect those doctors, nurses, health workers and volunteers who are on the frontline of this emergency, and are risking their lives to save others. Support their heroic effort and grant them strength, generosity and continued health. Be close to those who assist the sick night and day, and to priests who, in their pastoral concern and fidelity to the Gospel, are trying to help and support everyone.

Blessed Virgin, illumine the minds of men and women engaged in scientific research, that they may find effective solutions to overcome this virus.

Support national leaders, that with wisdom, solicitude and generosity they may come to the aid of those lacking the basic necessities of life and may devise social and economic solutions inspired by farsightedness and solidarity.

Mary Most Holy, stir our consciences, so that the enormous funds invested in developing and stockpiling arms will instead be spent on promoting effective research on how to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.

Beloved Mother, help us realize that we are all members of one great family and to recognize the bond that unites us, so that, in a spirit of fraternity and solidarity, we can help to alleviate countless situations of poverty and need. Make us strong in faith, persevering in service, constant in prayer.

Mary, Consolation of the afflicted, embrace all your children in distress and pray that God will stretch out his all-powerful hand and free us from this terrible pandemic, so that life can serenely resume its normal course.

To you, who shine on our journey as a sign of salvation and hope, do we entrust ourselves, O Clement, O Loving, O Sweet Virgin Mary. Amen.

Act of Spiritual Communion St. Alphonsus Liguori

My Jesus, I believe that you are in the Blessed Sacrament. I love you above all things, and I long for you in my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though you have already come, I embrace you and unite myself entirely to you; never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.

Act of Spiritual Communion Servant of God, Cardinal Rafael Merry del Val

At Thy feet, O my Jesus, I prostrate myself and I offer Thee repentance of my contrite heart, which is humbled in its nothingness and in Thy holy presence. I adore Thee in the Sacrament of Thy love, the ineffable Eucharist. I desire to receive Thee into the poor dwelling that my heart offers Thee. While waiting for the happiness of sacramental communion, I wish to possess Thee in spirit. Come to me, O my Jesus, since I, for my part, am coming to Thee! May Thy love embrace my whole being in life and in death. I believe in Thee, I hope in Thee, I love Thee. Amen.
