THE LINK

GOOD FRIDAY REFLECTION On Good Friday, when we observe our Lord’s Passion and Crucifixion, we remember how He bore our sins and the sins of the whole world as He suffered on our behalf. A week after celebrating His Resurrection, we celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday, remembering the message He so ardently instructed St. Faustina to spread: His endless mercy and forgiveness. God longs for us to return to Him and to allow His mercy to wash away the muddiness of our sins. He has a prepared place in His merciful heart for each of us, and no sin is bigger than His power to forgive. He desires all of us to come to Him just as we are and receive healing through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The words Christ revealed to St. Faustina, He also speaks to us: “Lay your head on my shoulder, rest and regain your strength. I am always with you” (Diary, no. 848). Acts of Reparation (Choose one.)

• Pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy at 3:00 pm (the Hour of Mercy), with the intention of healing for all suffering from involvement in abortion. How to pray:usccb.org/divine-mercy-chaplet.

• Jesus spoke to St. Faustina, “Reveal all the wounds of your heart. I will heal them” (Diary, no. 377). Expose the cuts and wounds of your heart to Christ in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and allow His healing mercy to reach every hurt and hidden pain.

• Offer some other sacrifice, prayer, or act of penance that you feel called to do for this month’s intention.

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY Corpus Christ Church will host a Divine Mercy Sunday service on April 28th at 2:30pm. The Divine Mercy Novena begins on Good Friday and we will celebrate the conclusion of the Novena as a community during this service. RELICS OF SAINT PIO OF PIETRELCINA Padre Pio The relics of Saint Pio will be visiting St. Philip Church on Wednesday, May 1, from 9am-6:30pm. The relics of Saint Pio available for public veneration will be the following: Saint Pio’s glove; Saint Pio’s crusts of the wounds; Cotton-gauze with Saint Pio’s blood stains; A lock of hair; Saint Pio’s handkerchief soaked with his sweat hours before he dies. A Mass in honor of Saint Pio will be celebrated at 7pm by Bishop Joseph Seigel. The Saint Pio Foundation will provide books and items related to Padre Pio in the gathering area.

Dear Family, As you read these words we are officially entering into Holy Week. The word holy means, set apart for God’s use. There is only one week that we declare as Holy Week and it is this one. This means that each one of us, as we are able, should seek to make this week look different than any other week. We do this for the simple and yet profound reason that this is time when Jesus gave himself over to be falsely accused, beaten, humiliated, and crucified. All the sins of humanity were thrust upon him and the suffering that he endured goes beyond our comprehension. It was He who saved us and made a way for us to have hope in a fallen world. Let us each seek to truly make this week holy. Even in our day to day work, routines, and recreation we can turn with our hearts to our Lord Jesus. Pause frequently during your day to thank Him for His sacrifice. Seek to meditate on His amazing gift of love and mercy. Seek to give this love and mercy to others. Remember that I will be giving my talk tonight on the Meaning and Power of the Mass at 6pm Sunday, Palm Sunday night at Corpus Christi. If you want to get more understanding of what is happening and why we do what we do, this talk is for you.

In the Sacred Heart of Jesus,

Fr. Dusty Burns
