Photocopying of Military Identification Cards. Recent incidents regarding the photocopying of military  identification cards, by commercial  establishments to verify military affiliation, have been reported. Personnel are reminded that the photocopying of US Government Identification is a violation of Title 18, US Code Part I, Chapter 33, Section 701 and punishable by both fine and/or imprisonment. Many military members, family members and DoD employees are unaware of this law. NOTE:  This does not apply to medical establishments who are allowed take a copy for the purpose of filing insurance claims; and other government agencies in the performance of official government business. FPO Comment: Criminal elements and terrorist organizations place U.S. government identifications as a high value logistical element when planning acts against the U.S. military.  There are no safeguards in place to ensure a government identification card won’t be counterfeited or “cloned” based on a photocopy by a commercial establishment. It is recommended that military/DoD personnel provide a state drivers license or other form of photo identification to be photocopied if an establishment insists on a photocopy of the traveler’s identification. WEEKLY FINACIAL TIPS

HOLIDAYS – With holiday decorations already out, it’s time tofocus on budgeting strategies for the upcoming season.Starting early with your budget planning can help reduce thestress and actually increase your holiday fun.

1. CARDS – Everyone has a holiday card list, usually consisting of people

we don’t communicate with on a regular basis, yet we send a holiday card

with just a signature. Take the time this year to look over your list and

tailor it down to a reasonable amount. Write these people a thoughtful

note in the card this year; and send the remaining people an e-card.

Electronic cards offer great varieties at a once a year low cost and can be

done at the last minute if necessary. Check out

www.americangreetings.com, www.hallmark.com,

www.123greetings.com, www.bluemountain.com, or

www.care2.com/ecards. This strategy can work for the worstprocrastinators!

2. GIFT LIST – Take the time to plan your gift giving this year. The holiday

marketing is centered on gift giving, spending money and even going into

debt to purchase that perfect gift. There are a number of avenues to help

reduce costs, stress, and pressure. Here are a few:

Page 22: Weekly Update 11.24.11

8/3/2019 Weekly Update 11.24.11

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/weekly-update-112411 22/27

a. Drawing names. This technique encourages everyone to draw a

name and buy only for that person. This way, everyone gets a gift, and

no one feels strapped during the holidays.

b. Focus on thoughtful gifts, not showy or expensive. A ten dollar

gift that matches the recipient well means far more than a forty dollar

gift that’s useless. When you look for gifts for someone, think about

their hobbies or interests.

c. Make gifts for more casual exchanges. Make your favorite recipe

or search online at some of the cooking websites such as

www.foodnetwork.com, www.tastebook.com, www.recipezaar.com,

www.christmas-cookies.com, or www.joyofbaking.com. These sites

offer great recipes that will fit your budget.

d. Set strict dollar limits on what you will spend for each person. When you write your gift giving list, set a dollar limit next to that

person’s name. This will enable you to stay focus and be creative with

the money you do spend.

e. Purchase one nice gift instead of multiple less expensive gifts.

When buying gifts for a spouse, parent or child you may be tempted to

purchase lots of gifts. The problem with this is that not only do you

avoid putting much thought into each one; you also end up restricting

your gifts to inexpensive items. Instead, focus on one or two nice gifts

instead – ones that you can put a lot of thought into selecting the rightthing.

f. Check out reviews. After thinking of ideas, check out reviews to

see how consumers liked these items. You can find reviews at

www.consumersearch.com, www.cnet.com, www.epinions.com,

www.wize.com or www.reviewcentre.com.

g. Begin shopping by comparing prices. The longer in advance you

plan your gift, the more time you have for the perfect price. Compare

prices at www.comparisonshopping.com (this site lets you enter aproduct one-time and access results from the ten leading comparison

shopping sites). If you have a smart phone, use an app to help you find

the best deal.

h. Here are some sites to help you find some amazing deals and

discounts: www.pronto.com, www.gottadeal.com,
