A Message from Mrs. Earle
Dear Saint Matthias Families!
We were reminded today at Mass that our light needs to shine. We shouldn’t hide it and should always
find ways to use our light to reflect God’s love and share His love with others. We are all “saints-in-
waiting!” Happy are we who follow the law of the Lord!
We are one week away from the Soles Walk for Catholic Education. We look forward to seeing many
St. Matthias friends on Saturday, October 20th. Please consider donating to this worthy cause – our
school!
Picture Re-take Day: is Tuesday, October 16th. Flyers were sent home if your child did not have a
picture taken on Meet & Greet Day. If you are not satisfied with the original photo, your child may have
his/her picture re-taken. Children being photographed may dress up but should not wear jeans.
Please remember the state attendance requirements. Parents may excuse children a maximum of 10
days per school year without a doctor’s excuse. Please ask your medical professional’s to provide a note
whenever you take your child even if they have not reached 10 days of absence. We will be sure to
properly code your child’s absence to avoid your having to contact your physician after the fact!
Another safety reminder! Students may not be dropped off on Beloit Road before 7:55. Buses as well
as service vehicles use Beloit Road and the traffic is also heavy in the morning. Students may be dropped
off on the playground until 7:55. Included in today’s mailer is a map of playground parking. As always,
please follow the cones and drive slowly. Our students are our precious!
8th Grade families see the attached information about high school open houses and deadlines!
Some of us have embraced the colder weather; some of us are mourning the loss of warm weather! It’s
here to stay either way. Please remember to send your children dressed for outdoor recess.
“Education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire” (William Butler Yeats). As we think about
our shining lights this week, we also hope to light a fire of interest, engagement and excitement in all of
our students. Ask them what they learned in school today!
Homework Club
Flyers went home today with all 5-8 graders regarding Homework Club. The Club will start Monday,
October 22nd.
Important MEC Information
MEC will be closed Thursday, November 1st and Friday, November 2nd.

First Reconciliation Information
All Second Grade Sacrament Preparation Students and Parents need to attend one of the following Masses followed by class in Steiger Hall, Room 5 this weekend.
Saturday, October 13th at 4:00pm Mass
Sunday, October 14th at 9:00am Mass
Sunday, October 14th at 11:00am Mass
Are You Interested in Becoming Catholic? Adults who may be interested in becoming Catholic or being baptized, and those who were baptized
Catholic, but never raised in the faith and now wish to receive First Eucharist and be confirmed, are
invited to attend inquiry sessions.
Sessions last 30 minutes after each Mass (5:00–5:30pm Saturdays) (8:30–9:00am, 10:00-10:30am, and 12:00-12:30pm Sundays) in Steiger Hall, Room 7. These sessions are intended to introduce
participants to the Church and answer questions they may have before making a decision to continue
their preparation.
These are taking place 30 minutes after each Mass on the weekends of October 13/14th, 20/21st, & 27/28th.
