A Message from Mrs. Earle
We were reminded at Mass this week to respect life. That can be seen from a variety of perspectives.
Being kind to every person is an excellent place to start. We remind our students that being unkind is not
the culture of St. Matthias. Every person, every classmate, every adult should be treated with respect. I
appreciate your support of that behavior as well. We are a loving community!
What a wonderful, blustery walk we enjoyed last weekend! Great to see our staff and families together
supporting our school. Congratulations to 8th and 4th Grades for raising the most money for the Walk!
They will be treated with a special party next month. If you would still like to donate, please do! We are
working hard at providing Chromebooks for our students, IPads for our kindergarteners and Document
Cameras for our lower grades. All will support your children’s learning. Let us know if you would like to
make a donation towards these items and more!
Big Reminders for this upcoming week!
Parent Teacher Conferences: Be sure to sign up to visit with your child’s teacher(s). Remember that
these conferences are limited to 15 minutes to allow all parents to connect with our faculty. If you need
more time, please set a separate appointment. When talking to teachers ask not what your child is
learning, but how your child is learning. The insight will amaze you.
Here is a list of questions to consider during conferences:
What do you see as my child’s strength? Can you give me an example?
What do you think are academic challenges for my child?
What can I do at home to support what you’re doing in the classroom?
Is my child participating in class discussions and activities?
Does my child seem happy at school?
Again, continue the discussion with a follow up meeting if you feel you need more time!

Book Fair: A book fair will be held in Room 113 during conference hours. Stop in and take a look at
your child’s wish list and teacher wish lists. This is another low cost way to support your child’s academic
development by purchasing level appropriate books for them and to support your child’s teachers by
providing books for the classroom. They make great Christmas gifts!
Half Day on November 1 and no school on November 2: Due to conferences there will be a noon
dismissal Thursday, November 2. Lunch will not be served. We will be sure our younger students have
a mid-morning snack to get them to the noon hour!

Pep Rally
Our 8th Grade Boys and Girls Volleyball Teams have been invited to the Seton Volleyball Tournament! We
will be having a Pep Rally to support our teams on Monday, October 29th at 2:30pm. To show our support
for the volleyball teams we will have a Spirit Day dress code on Monday, October 29th.
Please consider coming out to support our teams! Our boy’s first match will take place Monday, October
29th, 5:30 at Center Court in Waukesha. Our girl’s first match will take place on Wednesday, October 31st,

MEC will be closed Thursday, November 1st and Friday, November 2nd.

Basketball season is right around the corner. See the flyer in this week’s mailer regarding evaluations and
a mandatory parent meeting being held on Tuesday, November 6th from 7:15-8:15pm.

Are You Interested in Becoming Catholic? Adults who may be interested in becoming Catholic or being baptized, and those who were baptized
Catholic, but never raised in the faith and now wish to receive First Eucharist and be confirmed, are
invited to attend inquiry sessions.
Sessions last 30 minutes after each Mass (5:00–5:30pm Saturdays) (8:30–9:00am, 10:00-10:30am, and 12:00-12:30pm Sundays) in Steiger Hall, Room 7. These sessions are intended to introduce
participants to the Church and answer questions they may have before making a decision to continue their preparation.
These are taking place 30 minutes after each Mass on the weekends of October 27th/28th.
