PRINCIPAL’S REPORT This week:
• Great parent seminar opportunity •NAPLAN •Congratulations •Last night’s disco •Chocolates at school •Working Bee GENERATION NEXT AUSTRALIA’S LEADING EXPERTS ON
CHILDREN AND TEENAGERS IN ONE EVENT!!!
Parents from all schools across the Central Coast are invited to a seminar on 27 June for parents of pre-teens and teenagers aimed at understanding the unique health, well-being and challenges facing generations Y & Z – and how these challenges can be met.
Topics will include: Bullying and violence in schools Cybersafety
Depression in young people Alcohol and binge drinking Body image and eating disorders
Managing transition from Year 6 to Year 7 They have managed to secure Australia’s leading experts on Children and Teenagers – they will all be speaking at the Central Coast Event!!
Speakers are: Dr Michael Carr-Gregg (Adolescent Psychologist)
Paul Dillon (Drug and Alcohol Research and Training Australia) Susan McLean (Cybersafety Expert) Angie Wilcock (Teacher and Sportsperson) Maggie Hamilton (Writer, Researcher, Media Commentator)
Melinda Hutchings (Ambassador for Butterfly Foundation) Dr Ramesh Manocha Tickets need to be pre-paid and are an absolute bargain at $40. Please
make cheques out to our school and send to the school office by 12 May 2010. See the flyer on our website.
NAPLAN Tests You will probably be aware that a moratorium on administering the tests has been called for by the NSW Teachers Federation and other state and
federal education unions. The teaching staff has discussed this issue at some length. As
professionals we value the information provided by NAPLAN but still have significant misgivings about the potential (mis)use of NAPLAN data. Although I previously advised we supported the moratorium, school staff will implement NAPLAN at KPS rather than allow children to be supervised
by non DET staff. School staff appreciated the high level of support from the P & C at its last meeting. Congratulations
Congratulations to Nic Duell-Ferguson and Kaitlin Clague who will represent Sydney North at the PSSA Australian Football State Carnival and Girls’ Basketball respectively on 18 May. We also congratulate Shivonne
Blair who will represent Sydney North at the PSSA Girls’ Football (soccer) State Carnival on 1 June. Shivonne is the first girl at our school to be selected at this level in girls’ football. Well done to all.
Last night’s disco
The disco last night was considered by everyone as the best ever. Your children were fabulously well-behaved, they were picked up on time by
adults who came into the hall, and the hall and school grounds were very clean when everyone had left. Well done everyone, and thank you to the P & C for organising this fun event. My personal thanks go to our amazing teaching staff who volunteer and give up their time to supervise
the children—it would be great to see more parents help out too. Chocolates at school
Our school runs a healthy canteen and all profits are directed back to the
school for resources for your children. Your P & C does not run chocolate drives to raise funds because of its commitment to supporting healthy lifestyles.
I am now aware of a large number of children who are bringing in chocolates to sell to other students on behalf of their sporting organisations. Not only does this remove fundraising profits from the
school, it creates a significant issue that children may be spending money on unhealthy foods without parent consent before school and before they may have ordered their lunches. It is school policy that no-
one can sell raffle tickets or other goods at school without approval from the school. Please abide by these conditions as I don’t wish to impose a blanket ban. Thank you for your cooperation.
Working Bee We need your help and your wheelbarrows on Sunday, 16th May at 9:00am to move softfall under the playground equipment. Morning tea and a cuppa provided at 11:00 am. Please contact the office as soon as
possible if you are able to help. The School Council AGM will be held on Monday, 24 May at 5pm in the
staffroom. Hope you had a great week at our great school.

CLASS 3G ITEM
Stage 3 needed to design and make a product. It had to have a
distinctive logo and be easy to manufacture. We hope you like
3G’s products!
I made Yum Chum cookies. I am selling them to people of all
ages. I also put a barcode on the box from a carton of eggs. It
was hard but fun to do. Hopefully, we can show them to the
school. I hope we can create another product soon. Tyla
Double Sided Pillow! We decided to create a double sided pillow
with a heart logo on it. This pillow is for girls and boys of all ages.
It doesn’t cost much, only $32! We loved product design and it
was so much fun! We hope you will buy it. Hayley and Georgia
Our design is a Googly headband and a wristband. We hope boys
under 10 like our fantastic design. We hope we can do it again.
Ty and Dylan
My product is a Glitter Bandana. I decided to put lots of glitter on
it. It is for kids. My logo is a tree and a butterfly. I really want
to do another product design! Sami
Our product is a toy dog house for children. We used a lot of
paddle pop sticks and blue tac. Our logo is called ‘The Bone’. We
had some problems when building but fixed them. It was fun.
Shivonne and Kaitlin
I have created my product for kids. It is shampoo that smells like
lavender. I named the shampoo, ‘Shining Shampoo’ because it
makes your hair shine. Ashley
My product is a pamphlet selling a resort holiday called ‘Family
Holiday Resort’. It is for parents, teenagers and kids. It was fun
to make and I’d love to do product design again. Michael
For our product design, we thought of advertising a beach in a
kitty litter tray. We named the beach ‘SCS’. This beach is based
for all ages. We had some problems. The sand would suck all the
water out of our rock pool, but we fixed it. Sam, Sheree and
Courtney
Our product is a surfboard. The brand name is ‘Barrel’. We are
selling it to people who want to surf and we recommend our
design. Liam, Jamie, Kaylam, Ryan
We made wrapping paper for our product design. Our logo is a
smiley face. We enjoyed working together. Taylor and Victoria
I decided to make a bandana for product design. It took a while
to make but I did it! I am selling it to girls and women. I loved
product design and would love to do another one. Lara
We decided to make a bouncy ball. This product is for children.
We used bright colours. Jesse and Conor
We started making a dog out of boxes and aluminium foil. Then we
gave him legs. We made a logo with a poster and now he is a robot
dog! Kevin and Brandon
We made a truck that delivers newspapers around Australia. We had
fun cutting and gluing the pieces together. We have tiny papers in our
truck. Bilal and Luke
I made a lovely bandana. Jade

Two weeks ago, after years of gruelling training, the coach of my

Representative Squad. Fionn Henderson-Foley
Congratulations Fionn!

Amazing Opportunity!
Two remarkable performances are coming soon to Kincumber
Public School. On Wednesday, 23rd June, Ryka Ali will present
a cultural workshop and perform Aboriginal songs and dances in
our school hall that focus on Australia’s unique animals. Ryka is a
proud ambassador for Australia’s Indigenous youth. His
Indigenous heritage stems from the Wuthathi people of Shellburne
Bay, Cape York and from the Torres Strait Islands. Ryka will play
and provide explanations of instruments including the didgeridoo,
as well as costumes and various artefacts. On Thursday, 22nd
July, Opera Australia’s OZOPERA presents ‘The Sound Garden’, a
remarkable and delightful performance that combines traditional
opera with African, Middle Eastern and contemporary drumming
and percussion. This is a rare opportunity for all students to
experience this magical opera in our own school venue, returning
to NSW by popular demand. While already heavily subsidised, we
appreciate that any cost can stretch budgets, and hope forward
notice can ease some of the financial strains in meeting the $9.50
cost per child to attend. This cost covers both performances. We
look forward to all children at Kincumber Public School
participating in these enriching cultural experiences and thank all
families for supporting these unique opportunities for their
children.
