Students place 3rd in worldwide business simulation game
One of the learning tools used by Wagner College’s
business program is the Capstone Simulation —
Capsim, for short — an extremely sophisticated,
online team “game” that pits teams of students from
around the world against one another in creating
businesses and marketing products. Wagner is the only
school in the New York metropolitan area that utilizes
Capsim at the undergraduate level and in all three
MBA programs (traditional, executive and
accelerated). This semester, the Capsim scenario asked
teams to run a global electronic sensor company over
an 8-year period. Two Wagner College teams, Erie
and Chester, scored extremely high among the 2,000
teams competing worldwide.
Team Erie’s remarkable scores included:
Stock Price at end of the game — 3rd place (price $402.74/share)
Profits for the last round — 4th place (four times the mean)
Cumulative profits for the entire game — 16th place
Team Chester’s results were:
Stock price — 13th place ($315.58) — 3rd highest ever recorded at Wagner
Return on Sales — 15th place
Profit for Round 8 — 53rd place
Team Erie’s members were Tony Jones (Baldwin, N.Y.), Mathilde Letourneux (Paris, France), Evan
Odeseye (Castleton Corners, Staten Island) and Trevor Loveland (Cherry Hill, N.J.).
Team Chester consisted of Anthony Fiumefreddo (West Caldwell, N.J.), Naofall Folahan (Cotonou,
Benin), Rachel Reeves (East Northport, N.Y.) and David Fredrickson (Woodrow, Staten Island).

Capsim Foundation Simulation Lab
Wagner’s Business Department continues to innovate in management education with the addition of the
Capsim Foundation Simulation Lab to its Management 201 course. This simpler version of the Capsim
Capstone Simulation, which is currently used by upper class undergrads as well as at the graduate level,
is a first time offering. These management teams, Andrews, Baldwin, Chester, and Digby compete with
each other as well as computerized teams (Erie and Ferris) to see which group can be most successful in
managing a sensor manufacturing company. After each “year” each team presents a debrief on their
current and total performance and at the end of the lab they present a stockholders debrief which is
videotaped for their review. The photos are of the first Capsim Foundation 201Lab teams at the
stockholders debrief on the last day of the session.

Gov. George Pataki at Wagner
On Monday, former New York Gov. George Pataki was
the featured speaker at this year’s Presidential
Economic Symposium at Wagner College. Pataki, the
53rd governor of New York, served from 1995 through
2006. He opened his wide-ranging talk with a warning
that the politicians who win their party’s nominations
today tend to be the “most partisan, most ideological
and self-centered.” Watch the video in our online
Newsroom.

Professional Advisory Council
It is with great pleasure that we announce yet another important 'Stakeholder' group to our impressive
list of Committees that offer valuable feedback and input to our Business Department in a continued and
ongoing effort to offer our students the best possible, most innovative programs in existence. The PAC
(Professional Advisory Council) is comprised of our esteemed adjunct cohort and has been instrumental,
on a more informal basis, in many of the changes over the years to our curriculum. By formalizing this
relationship the PAC joins our original BAC (Business Advisory Committee), ExBAC (Executive
Business Advisory Council) and our newly formed SAC (Student Advisory Council) and completes the
circle of input from all of our various stakeholder groups--truly an inclusive club.
Student Advisory Committee
In Spring, 2014 semester, Dr. Crooks, Department Chair, and Dr. Tully, Director of Undergraduate
Business Program, formed a new committee called the Student Advisory Committee (SAC). A
group of sixteen outstanding Undergraduate students, who excel in the classroom and are involved
in internships and various academic activities in the Business Administration Department were
asked to partake in this stakeholder committee. The mission of the committee is to elecit advice
pertaining to our Business program, from the undergraduates who are presently enrolled. Their
thoughts and ideas will be used to continue to improve our undergraduate program.
During the spring semester the committee met in early April and early May. The theme of the
meetings was centered around improvement of the course schedule and internships. Students shared
valuable experiences, referring to the strenghts and weaknesses of the schedule as it presently
stands. Their suggestions will be brought forth to the Department faculty for consideration.

The New Look of the Grasso Boardroom
Grasso Board Room was officially
dedicated and open for business this
past spring. The GBR, made possible
by a generous gift from esteemed
friend and Trustee Richard Grasso, is
one of the nicest and most up-to-date
learning centers in existence,
featuring a SmartBoard and
laptops. The Boardroom is now the
home of the AccMBA and the MS in
Accounting along with selected
TMBA and other business department
classes, clubs and events. The
Business Department is also making
the room available, by appointment,
to our colleagues in other
departments. The State of the Art
facility allows our students to learn in
a professional environment which is
both intimate and purely
functional. This Fall we will launch
our first seminar in "Alternative
Investing," orchestrated by Trustee
Mr. Cesar Baez, we will keep you
updated on future functions.
Students are making presentations as if they were
the CFO at an annual meeting whereby they
explain to the audience how the company is
maximizing shareholder wealth; using finance
fundamentals learned in class.
Companies analyzed include Disney, Apple,
McDonalds, Wal-Mart and Exxon Mobil.
