Vijaya Raju, Department of Commerce & Business Administration, ANU, was appointed as the Chairman of Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. He has been working in ANU since 1979. He served the university in several key positions as the Dean, Faculty of Commerce, Board of Studies Chairman, Member of Executive Council and Academic Senate in ANU and the Principal of the ANU College of Arts, Commerce and Law. It is a matter of great pride that a professor from the university has been chosen to head the State Council. Endowed with vast academic and administrative experience, it is hoped that Prof. Raju would lead higher education in the right path in the new state of Andhra Pradesh. The Vice - Chancellor of ANU Prof. A. Rajendra Prasad, the Rector and the Registrar congratulated him on his singular achievement. Prof. S. Vijaya Raju, Department of Commerce & Business Administration, ANU, was appointed as theChairman of Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. He hasbeen working in ANU since 1979. He served the university in several key positions as the Dean, Faculty ofCommerce, Board of Studies Chairman, Member of Executive Council and Academic Senate in ANU and thePrincipal of the ANU College of Arts, Commerce and Law.

It is a matter of great pride that a professor from the university has been chosen to head the State Council.Endowed with vast academic and administrative experience, it is hoped that Prof. Raju would lead highereducation in the right path in the new state of Andhra Pradesh. The Vice - Chancellor of ANU Prof. A. RajendraPrasad, the Rector and the Registrar congratulated him on his singular achievement. Prof. K. Viyyanna Rao and Prof. S. Vijaya Raju,senior professors of the Department of Commerce andBusiness Administration, ANU, retired from service onattaining superannuation on 31-03-2017. The Vice-ChancellorProf. A. Rajendra Prasad attended as Chief Guest while thePrincipal, College of Arts, Commerce and Law, Prof.Noorbasha Abdul, presided over the felicitation function.Other distinguished guests include the Vice-Chairmen ofAPSCHE, Prof. P. Narasimha Rao and Prof. Valli Kumari,the Secretary Dr. Varadarajan, the Rector of ANU, Prof.K.R.S.Sambasiva Rao and the Registrar of ANU, Prof. K.John Paul. In a well-attended felicitation function, speakerslauded their services to the University and severalaccomplishments during their career.

Prof. K. Viyyanna Rao was appointed as lecturer inMarch 1979 and served the university in many academicand administrative positions, as Special Officer(Examinations) member of Academic Senate, Registrar,Rector, In-charge Vice-Chancellor and Vice - Chancellor ofAcharya Nagarjuna University. He has to date guided 15M.Phil. and 14 Ph.D. scholars and has more than150publications in reputed National and International Journals.

Prof. K. Viyyanna Rao has received many awards suchas Best Teacher Award in 2009, Best Research Paper Awardfrom ICSI and ANU. Outstanding Excellence Award in 2012from USA, Implementing Telugu in University Administrationin 2013, Honorary rank of Colonel in 2014. VocationalExcellence in Educational Service in 2014 and UNESCO UgadiPuraskaram in 2015.

Prof. S.Vijaya Raju was appointed as lecturer inNovember 1979. A dedicated teacher that he is, Prof. S.Vijaya Raju has received many awards prominent of thembeing Best Teacher Award in 2015. He has to date guided 04M.Phil. and 25 Ph.D. scholars and has more than 35publications in reputed National and International Journals.He has served the University in many capacities as Memberof Executive Council, Member of Academic Senate, SpecialOfficer (Examinations), Dean, Faculty of Commerce &Management, Principal, College of Arts, Commerce & Law,Member of various committees of Administrative Academicand Financial Matters of the University. At present Prof. Rajuis the Chairman, Andhra Pradesh State Council of HigherEducation, Andhra Pradesh.

The two professors were felicitated in a grand mannerby the university officials, faculty and students.

BUDDHIST STUDIES - INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR

The Centre for Mahayana Buddhist Studies organizedan International Seminar on Dr. B.R.Ambedkar and Buddhismduring 24 - 25 February 2017 in ANU. The Inaugural sessionwas attended by the Minister for Social Welfare Sri RavelaKishore Babu, Minister for Agriculture Sri P. Pulla Rao andMLA Sri D. Narendra while the valedictory was graced by theAP Assembly Speaker Dr. K. Siva Prasada Rao and theCollector Sri Kantilal Dande. The keynote address was givenby Prof. Valerian Rodriguez, Mangaluru University. TheVice-Chancellor, Prof. A. Rajendra Prasad, the Rector, theRegistrar and other officials, faculty and students attended.The Director of the Seminar was Prof. Ch. Swarupa Rani.

CENTRE FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Start- Up Summit The Center for Entrepreneurship Development organized atwo- day national level Start - Up Summit on 7th & 8th January2017. Students from technical and professional courses,belonging to various other states also participated in thesummit. The participants presented their innovative ideas andseveral of such ideas were purchased and financed by someinvestors from Gujarat, Bombay and Delhi. D. Harika, M.B.A.student of ANU bagged the first prize for her most creative andviable idea presentation. Mr. Madhava Reddy, founder & MD,Redmad Learning’s, Gujarat coordinated the program. Prof.Noorbasha Abdul, Director of Centre for EntrepreneurshipDevelopment, represented the ANU as venue partner in thesummit.

Motivational Awareness ProgramA Motivational Awareness Program was organized on

behalf of the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development on 13th

February 2017. Prof. Noorbasha Abdul, Director, presided overthe program. Mr. P. Abhishek, IAS Officer from Maharashtraspoke to the students and provided motivation for those who

were aspiring to appear for the competitive examinations. Headvised the students to possess self - confidence and positivethinking to get success. Dr. P.V. Lakshmaiah, Chairman ofLakshmaiah Coaching Centre, Hyderabad, maintained thateven students coming from villages can also compete withthose belonging to cities.

Entrepreneurship Orientation ProgramThe Centre for Entrepreneurship

Development organized a one dayEntrepreneurship Orientation Programon 27th February, 2017. Mr. S.Ananda Reddy, Senior HR Manager,Hetero Drugs, Hyderabad, delivereda lecture followed by an interactivesession with the students and saidthat there are many employmentopportunities available in the Indianindustry, but students are supposedto acquire the necessaryemployability skills. Prof. NoorbashaAbdul, Director, Center forEntrepreneurship Development, presided over the program.

DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICSNational Seminar on SQC

The Department of Statistics organized a NationalSeminar on SQC, Reliability, Design of Experiments andOperations Research during 23 - 24 February 2017 in theUniversity. The seminar is aimed at providing interactionbetween theoreticians and practitioners of statistics fromAcademic Institutions, Research labs, Industries, Govt./Non-Govt. Organizations, Consultancy units etc., in the form ofscheduled invited lectures by eminent persons andcontributed paper presentations by researchers in the areasrelated to SQC, Reliability, Design of Experiments andOperations Research. Eminent personalities from MadrasUniversity, Annamalai University, Osmania University,Bharathiar University etc. delivered invited talks in theirrespective research areas. This National seminar has beenfunded by UGC-DRS-II (SAP).

Nearly 166 research scholars faculty members andstudents actively participated in this National Seminar. TheDirector of the Seminar was Prof. K. Rosaiah and theTreasurer of the Seminar was Prof. GVSR. Anjaneyulu.

A One day National Workshop on StatisticalComputation with R was organized by the Department ofStatistics, ANU on 22.02.2017. Nowadays, researchersrequire good computational skills. The statisticians, to analyzethe data, require suitable computational package R software,one such convenient Statistical Package. Seven practitionersof this software were invited as the resource persons.Participants from different places of India have been benefitedby this one day workshop. The Director of the Seminar wasProf. K. Rosaiah and the Treasurer of the Seminar was Prof.GVSR. Anjaneyulu.

National Workshop on “Statistical Computation with R”

Mahatma Jothirao Phule Study Centre conducted aseminar on the theme Marx and Ambedkarist Perspectivesin India on 3rd March, 2017. Prof. Noorbasha Abdul presidedover the seminar and Dr. B.V. Raghavulu, Director, Marx -Ambedkar Study Centre, Khammam delivered the keynotespeech. He said that the caste system in India is the principalobstacle for democracy and a just society and also observedthat as long as caste is not removed, unity of the workingclass is not possible. He highlighted the need for acoordinated effort between Marxists and Ambedkarists inorder to annihilate caste system in India and to achieve anegalitarian society.

DEPARTMENT OF JOURNALISM AND MASSCOMMUNICATION

The Department of Tourism & Hospitality Managementorganized a UGC Sponsored National Seminar on EmergingTrends in Tourism & Hospitality Industry during 20 – 21 March,2017. For the Inaugural Session, the Honorable Vice-Chancellor Prof. A. Rajendra Prasad was the Chief Guestand the Keynote Speaker was Prof. Galla Amareswar,Advisor to the A.P Government of Amravati Heritage City.Delegates submitted 90 papers in the four Technical Sessionsin two days. For the Valedictory Session, ANU Registrar Prof.John Paul was the Chief Guest and Mr. Rakesh David,General Manager, Orchid Star Hotel, Guntur, attended as aSpecial Guest.

The speakers explained how the world tourismorganizations in the “Tourism 2020 Vision” have acceptedthe role of tourism as an integral part of the global economyand importance within the field of sustainable development. Ithas become important to project India as an attractivedestination for all type of tourists across the world.

P. G. DEPARTMENT OF LEGAL STUDIES AND RESEARCH

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communica-tion, ANU conducted two days UGC Sponsored NationalWorkshop on Advertising and Newspaper Production during24-25 March, 2017. Suhail Mohammad, CommunicationOfficer, US Consulate, Hyderabad, Telangana was the ChiefGuest. Prof. A. Rajendra Prasad, Vice - Chancellor ANU, Prof.K.R.S.Sambasiva Rao, Rector, Prof. K. John Paul, Registrar,Prof. Noor Basha Abdul, Principal, University College of Arts,graced the occasion. Dr. G. Anita, Head of the Department ofLaw was the Director of the workshop. Research scholarsand students also participated.

Dr. B.R. AMBEDKAR CHAIRA National Seminar on Social Policy and Ambedkar

Ideology was organised by Dr. Ambedkar Chair in associationwith Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, New Delhi on 22nd March, 2017.Prof. A. Rajendra Prasad, Vice - Chancellor, ANU, presidingover the function, said that social policies were useful for theupliftment of the Dalits. Prof. N.Samuyelu, stressed thecontribution of Dr. Ambedkar for the better life of the Dalits.Prof. D.K.Varma, Dean, School of Education and SkillDevelopment & School of Law & Social Justice, Dr.B.R.Ambedkar University of Social Sciences, Indore, gavethe keynote address and said that because of the failure ofsocial policies, Social Justice could not be achieved in India.

180 scholars participated and 70 scholars presentedtheir research papers in the National Seminar. The Valedictoryfunction was organized on 23rd March 2017, presided over byProf. N. Samuyelu. Prof. Krupachari and Dr. M. Ankaiahdelivered the lectures. The Seminar was coordinated by Dr.S.Murali Mohan, Coordinator, Dr. Ambedkar Chair.

The P.G. Department of Legal Studies and Research,ANU conducted a UGC Sponsored National Seminar onEnvironmental Protection and Law: Retrospect and Prospectduring 25-26 March, 2017. Dr. Justice B. Siva Sankara Rao,Honorable Judge, High Court of Judicature Hyderabad, theState of Telangana and for the state of Andhra Pradesh wasthe Chief Guest of the Seminar, and delivered inauguraladdress. A Discussion programme on Dalit & Politics wasorganized on 22nd February, 2017 in ANU by Dr. AmbedkarChair and Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, New Delhi. Prof. N.Samuyelu, Emeritus Professor, Dr. S. Murali Mohan, Co-ordinator, Dr.Ambedkar Chair, coordinated the programme.Dr. K. Madhu Babu, Dr. B. Nagaraju, Assistant Professors,Faculty & Research Scholars participated in the Discussion.

The Department of Economics, ANU, organized a UGC

A two day National Workshop on “Utilisation of e-Resources” was organized by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar MemorialLibrary in ANU Campus during 10-11 March, 2017.Inaugurating the workshop, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. A.Rajendra Prasad said that the library is crucial for a university’sprogress and that faculty and students need to trainthemselves to use electronic books and journals. Prof. K.Venkata Rao, the Librarian, explained the development of thelibrary since the inception of the university in 1976. Librariansand staff from the affiliated colleges attended in large number.Present also were the Rector, the Principals of ANU Collegesand other officials. The Registrar Prof. K John Paul was theChief Guest for the Valedictory function.

TEPP WORKSHOPA Workshop on “Innovation by Design’ was held by

TePP Outreach Centre, ANU during 2-3 February, 2017. Theworkshop was organized by Prof. Dwaraka Prasad, IIM,Kasipur, and coordinated by the TePP Centre Coordinator Dr.R.V.S.S.N. Ravikumar.

Sponsored National Seminar on Implications ofDemonetization on Indian Economy during 27 - 28 March,2017. Prof. K. Viyyanna Rao, former Vice - Chancellor,ANU gave the keynote address while Prof. Joti Sivagnanam,Madras University, Chennai was the Guest of honour. Prof.A. Rajendra Prasad, Vice - Chancellor ANU, Prof.K.R.S.Sambasiva Rao, Rector, Prof. K. John Paul, Registrar,Prof. Noor Basha Abdul, Principal, University College of Arts,ANU presided over the inaugural function.

On the occasion of Savithribai Phule’s 186th Jayanthi,a seminar was organized by Mahatma Jothirao Phule StudyCentre on 3rd January 2017. Prof. Noorbasha Abdul, Directorof the Centre presided over the function. Prof. Ch. SwaroopaRani, delivering the keynote speech, said that Savithribai wasthe first woman leader to wage a struggle for the liberation ofDalits and the women folk in modern India. Another speakerMr. Y.Koteswara Rao said that Savithribai was the first womanteacher who started primary schools for the marginalizedcastes in the 19th Century. Mrs. K. Nagamanimma, BC leaderalso spoke.

NATIONAL TOURISM DAYThe Department of Tourism & Hospitality Management

conducted the National Tourism Day on 25.01.2017 byarranging an Exhibition in which different models of Tourismhave been prepared by the students and scholars. Theyprepared and displayed various models such as ReligiousTourism, Eco-Tourism, E-Tourism, Medical Tourism, RuralTourism, Eco-Hotel, Heritage Tourism, Different Charts andBanners relating to Tourism. Prof. Noor Basha Abdul,Principal, University College of Arts, Commerce & Lawattended as a Chief Guest and explained the opportunitiesand the challenges which are faced by the present day tourismindustry. Prof. John Paul, Registrar, ANU distributed prizesto the students.

World Social Work Day was organized by theDepartment of Sociology & Social Work, of ANU on21.03.2017. ANU has obtained second rank in South India, 21st

rank in All India level and 2nd rank in Andhra Pradesh in thefresh Asian Universities ranking for 2017 announced byTimes Higher Education. This is the Sixth time that the University hasconducted this course. APPECET - 2017Acharya Nagarjuna University is conducting Andhra

Pradesh Physical Education Common Entrance Test(APPECET)-2017 from 8th to 17th May 2017. This PECET isbeing organized 15th time (12 times in combined AndhraPradesh and 3rd time in separate Andhra Pradesh) and 11thtime in succession by Acharya Nagarjuna University. Earlierthis university organized the same event in 1994, 1998, 2003,2004 and continuously from 2007 till this year.

This year also Andhra Pradesh State Council of HigherEducation has entrusted the responsibility of conducting theAPPECET-2017 to A.N.U, and nominated Dr. P.Johnson asits convener. The Test Committee met on 8th February in theA.N.U and finalised the schedule of APPECET-2017. Badminton,Chess & Cricket for research scholars. Badminton, Cricket,Table Tennis, Volleyball for Teaching Staff were also conducted.

MOU with SAAP

Acharya Nagarjuna University entered into an MOU withSports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) on 15th March,2017 to avail facilities of 400 Meters 8 Lane Synthetic AthleticTrack and other facilities on time sharing basis to train SAAPtrainees and for holding sports competitions/ national coachingcamps on long term basis in Acharya Nagarjuna University.

As a part of this Government of Andhra Pradesh hassanctioned an amount of Rs.8.60 Crores for arranging FloodLighting System for the Synthetic Athletic Track and anotherRs.8.00 Crores for Synthetic Athletic Track for Warm up. Forthe construction of Sports Hostel with 200 beds, it sanctionedRs.10 Crores and Rs.1 Crore for the Fitness Center with Multi- Gym and individual workout station. Govt. of Andhra Pradeshhas sanctioned totally Rs. 27.60 Crores to the University forthe Development of Sports Facilities on its campus.

Game” was conducted for five days from 25-02-2017 to 01-03-2017 in ANUCPESS. The Valedictory meeting waspresided over by the Principal Dr. P.P.S. Paul Kumar for whichthe Rector, Prof. K.R.S.Smbasiva Rao was the Chief Guest.Arjuna Award recipient Sri Ramana Rao, InternationalReferee Binny and others were present.
