Tactical Problem: Killing the Matilda v 10.21.2020 1 AXIS HIGH COMMAND PRESENTS v 10.21.2020 Tactical Problem: Killing the Matilda II Recently CRS identified and patched an armour leak on the Matilda II. Please know that a second and smaller armour leak has been recently identified and it will be addressed in a future patch. It is of particular importance for the Axis player base to be well-informed in how to defeat this effective weapon as quickly and as CHEAPLY as possible (in regards to the precious few sappers we have in the spawn list). You can help mitigate risk to the sapper spawn list in two ways: 1) Resupplying sappers using the basic rifleman ammo pack 2) DLC ammo caches for HEAT charge resupply around the objective(s) you are defending when anticipating a heavy Allied attack. Once the attack truly begins, it is difficult to get those ammo caches placed and they are easily destroyed The British Matilda II tank in the Early Tiers allows the Allies to be immune to most of our anti-tank guns or armoured gun platforms so knowing where to sap is critical. None of the FOUR techniques detailed below should be impacted by the upcoming armour fix on the Matilda (fingers crossed). Credit must be given to the LAGUS squad for sharing Techniques #1 and #4. There probably are other ways to destroy the Matilda so please continue to test equipment and attempt new things. AXIS HIGH COMMAND PRESENTS v 10.21.2020

Tactical Problem: Killing the Matilda II Recently CRS identified and patched an armour leak on the Matilda II. Please know that a second and smaller armour leak has been recently identified and it will be addressed in a future patch. Technique #1 – “1 CHARGE = 1 KILL” (5 pics) This technique is 100% 1 charge = 1 flaming Matty on the rear LEFT or RIGHT.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED: Sapper HEAT charge

POSITION: Upright or Crouch

Target areas for HEAT charges (Pic #1) o Place on the back of hull OUTSIDE of the muffler pipes running up/down o For proper placement – stay BELOW an imaginary horizontal line as the track link begins to curve down (blue line in pics) o Do NOT place HEAT charge lower than the mufflers which run horizontally (NO kill on tank}

Place charge (see Pic #2 and Pic #4)

This is how the charge will visually look to YOU once it is placed (see Pic #3 and Pic #5) TARGET AREAS FOR 1 CHARGE = 1 MATTY

Technique #2 – “KILLS ENGINE WITH OCCASIONAL FLAME!” (4 pics) This technique is not 100% 1 charge = 1 flaming Matty. On the training server it works between 30 – 60% of the time. At present, there is not an explanation as to why the disparity or the infrequency of the internal tank explosion and then burning.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED: Sapper HEAT charge

POSITION: Upright

Place charge (see Pic #6)

This is how the charge will visually look to YOU once it is placed (see Pic #7)

When the charge explodes you will hear a loud metallic bang followed by a SECOND bang (this tells you that you have SUCCESFULLY brewed the tank and killed ALL the crew with fatal damage to each crew members head. This is GREAT info to know in case you have had to seek cover/concealment prior to the detonation of your placed charge.)

If the Matilda does NOT burn on the first attempt:

If you only hear ONE metallic bang – you have IMMOBILIZED the Matilda by destroying its two engines with white smoke billowing out the back of the tank; however, ALL crew members are ALIVE and functioning (active turret with gun & coaxial machine gun)

Place a second HEAT charge on the same vertical plate where you placed the first charge (do NOT be sloppy in your placement or the Matty may not brew up. Plus you only have TWO HEAT charges) See Pic #8

With proper placement of the second charge, it detonates and you hear the two loud bangs and the Matilda will brew up with all crew killed (See Pic #9)

Technique #3 – “Dead Gunner ONLY” (4 pics)

EQUIPMENT NEEDED: Sapper HEAT charge

POSITION: Upright

Make sure you are oriented on the LEFT side (gunner side) of gun turret (see Pic #10)

Approach the turret with the charge COVERING the number on the decal (this ensures proper placement). See Pic #11 & Pic #12

If you place your charge so that it COVERS the ENTIRE decal you will NOT kill the gunner (See Pic# 13) NOTE:

The Matilda is still mobile and can continue to scout your position, run-over infantry and provide cover for approaching friendly units.

Use another HEAT charge with Technique #1 to destroy the Matilda. APPROACHING THE TARGET

Technique #4 – “Dead Command and Gunner” (2 pics)

EQUIPMENT NEEDED: Sapper HEAT charge

POSITION: Upright

Make sure you are oriented on the LEFT side (gunner side) of gun turret (see Pic #10)

See Pic #14 for NEW HEAT charge sap point

Approach the turret with the charge just below the “Beer Bottle Opener” (this ensures proper placement). See Pic #15

If you place your charge so that it COVERS the ENTIRE “Beer Bottle Opener” you will NOT kill the gunner NOTE:

BOTTOM LINE: This is the result we want (see Pic #16) and by sharing this information and practicing in the OFF-LINE mode or the TRAINING SERVER we blunt the effectiveness of this armoured platform during the Early Tiers of Equipment.
