In this stunning album ‘Perfect Animal’ , Becca Stevens filters her myriad musical influences (indie rock, R&B, jazz, WeAfrican music, folk) into a singular, electrifying sound.

The daughter of composer/multi ‐instrumentalist father and an operatically trained singer mother, Becca trained in classical guitar before moving to New York to study at the The New School for Jazz and Contemporary MusiIt was there that she received a BFA with high honors in vocal jazz and composition, and where she met the musician

Inspired by the growing absence of rock in “alternative rock”, WATERS began writing the 4‐track EP which was recorded in Lwith Ryan Rabin (Grouplove). “This song came about after listening to alternative rock radio for the first time in ages and recognizing the lack of anything alternative or rock about it,” notes Van. “Where are those dirty guitars? Where is that frenetenergy? Where are the songs that made us want to start a band in the first place? Most days don’t feel like they’re going to the best days of your life. Most days are kind of fucked up. And it’s nice to have a sanctuary for those days, and for us—that’salways been rock and roll. ‘I Feel Everything’ is our rally call to get that back.”

After finishing school and coming off of years on the road supporting former music projects, Van Pierszalowski decided to livand work in San Francisco, allowing himself to stand still for the first time in ages. The calm gave way to creative restlessnessand the result was a new band and a new sound in the form of WATERS. Earlier in the year the band released the single “Go

To My Head” which was hailed a “big high five of a song” by Stereogum and a song with “enough youthful sizzle” to make faeager for new music by BuzzbandsLA. A new full‐length is currently in the works, but in the meantime It All Might Be OK is slated to hit streets on October 14. In support, catch WATERS on the road throughout the fall.

Background:GOON is the debut album from Tobias Jesso Jr. A songwriter first and foremost, the album is a collection of timeless songs, all written onpiano in Tobias’ living room in N. Vancouver and recorded with added production and instrumentation in a range of studios in Los

The clichéd idea of finding a “diamond in the rough” is one that quite aptly describes stumbling upon Halifax’s A Sight For Sewn Eyes. Canada’s east coast, while certainly not short on musical talent, is far from a hotbed of heavy music; however,

Sewn Eyes recorded their new record in the early summer months of 2014 with the Canadian legend Greg Dawson at BWCstudios in Brampton, ON. After the completion of the record, it was sent to the mastermind himself Matt Bayles (MastodonMinus The Bear , Norma Jean ) for mixing, then off to Harry Hess at Vespa studios for the final mastering.

The new album will be put out through Distort Inc. / Fontana North on March 31, 2015 and is an expertly ‐executed collagecomponents from various styles of contemporary heavy music. Incorporating everything from the manic tempos of NYC hardcore, to the delightfully dissonant rhythmic onslaught of early metalcore pioneers like Norma Jean and Beloved , to more melodic musings that border on post ‐rock. ASFSE offers up a sampling of influential acts who’ve preceded them in a formula that’s all their own. That seemingly pure and perfectly ‐balanced hybrid of so many identifiable parts could very webe the result of relative isolation from similarly ‐sounding acts on the coast.

Showcasing the band’s now ‐cemented sound – a flurry of ferocious riffing, maniacal time shifts, and merciless, in‐your ‐facevocals. ASFSE have already logged a healthy amount of miles on the road, touring alongside contemporaries like StructuresCounterparts and Cancer Bats , all of whom – the Bats in particular – have offered a great deal of support to the young Maritime metalers during their formative years.

The band has been able to amass a following and build national excitement from a region relatively barren of aggressive audio. Because of that, and the fact that “ASFSE” will undoubtedly beckon fans on its own merits, the hard part might already be behind them.

For those unaware, Lisbon is having a moment. The youth of the city’s neglected outer districts are speaking out and doingso through brash, innovative dance music and all‐night warehouse parties.

One of the most influential figures in the development of jazzpiano and, according to one major source; 'one of a smallnumber of pianists whose playing shaped the history of jazz',Earl Hines was born on December 28th 1903. In 1925, Hinesmoved to Chicago. In the poolroom at Chicago's Musicians'

Union Hines met Louis Armstrong. They became good friendsand Armstrong joined Hines in Carroll Dickerson's band at theSunset Cafe. In 1927, this became Louis Armstrong's bandunder the musical direction of Hines. Armstrong and Hines thenrecorded what are often regarded as some of the most important

jazz records ever made. On December 28, 1928, Hines openedat Chicago's Grand Terrace Cafe leading his own big band, thepinnacle of jazz ambition at the time, and for the next 12 yearsand through the worst of the Great Depression and Prohibition,Hines' band was "The Orchestra" at The Grand Terrace. Fromthere, Hines and his band broadcast on "open mikes" over manyyears, sometimes seven nights a week, coast-to-coast across

America - Chicago being well placed to deal with the U.S. live-broadcasting time-zone problem. In early 1948, Hines joined upagain with Armstrong in what became the "Louis Armstrong andhis All-Stars" 'small-band'. Next, back as leader again, Hinestook his own small combos around the States.

This 4 CD collection features eight complete Earl Hines albums,which represent best the huge range of music Hines recordedduring his long and varied career, and includes some of his bestsolo albums.

American Jazz Trumpeter, Frederick Dewayne "Freddie"Hubbard, born April 7th 1938, was known primarily for playing inthe bebop, hard bop and post-bop styles from the early 1960sonwards. His unmistakable and influential tone contributed tonew perspectives for modern jazz and bebop. In his teensHubbard worked locally with brothers Wes and Monk

Montgomery, and with bassist Larry Ridley and saxophonistJames Spaulding. In 1958, at the age of 20, he moved to NewYork and began accompanying some of the best jazz players ofthe era, including Philly Joe Jones, Sonny Rollins, Eric Dolphyand Quincy Jones. In June 1960 Hubbard made his first recordas a leader, Open Sesame, with saxophonist Tina Brooks,pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Sam Jones, and drummer CliffordJarvis. In December 1960, Hubbard was invited to appear onOrnette Coleman's Free Jazz after Coleman had heard himplaying with Don Cherry.

He played on several Blakey recordings, including Caravan,Ugetsu, Mosaic, and Free For All. Hubbard remained with Blakeyuntil 1966, leaving to form the first of several small groups of hisown. This 4 CD set collects together Freddie Hubbard's first 6albums as leader, alongside 2 of his finest collaborations (withOliver Nelson and Curtis Fuller), plus a bonus cut - the delicious'Take Your Pick', from the classic Hank Mobley album Roll Call,which Hubbard featured on to quite startling effect. All cuts comefrom the era 1960 to 1962, when, although not at his best knownor most celebrated, most would agree this titan of Jazz wascertainly at his most creative, experimental and, crucially,satisfying.
