The most powerful [Islamic] country in theMiddle East is IRAN. Can you imagine the powerthey would have if they gained control of Iraq, the second-largest oil-producing country in theworld? ... Such a move would, in all likelihood, give Iran power to cause a sizable increase inthe price of oil. This could help trigger a collapseof the Western worlds weak currencies. Do You Still Want Us Jews?DER SPIEGEL | September 5

Germany has been debating the rights and wrongs ocircumcising inant boys ever since a German court ruledin June that the ritual, a core part o the Jewish religion, was unlawul.

Now Charlotte Knobloch, , the ormer president othe Central Council o Jews in Germany, has had enough. In a urious editorial published on Wednesday in one othe countrys top newspapers, Sddeutsche Zeitung, shesaid the controversy was calling the existence o Germanyssmall Jewish community into question and asked: Do youstill want us Jews?

For years I have deended Germany as a survivor othe Shoah. Now I ask mysel i that was right, she wrote.

Knobloch is president o the Munich Jewish communityand vice president o the World Jewish Congress.

Te verdict by a court in Cologne was denouncedby Jewish, Muslim, Catholic and Protestant leaders as aserious intrusion on religious reedom. Chancellor AngelaMerkel said Germany risked becoming a laughing stocki Jews were not allowed to practice their rituals.

In July, the lower house o parliament passed a resolu-tion to protect religious circumcision and the governmenthas promised a new law to make clear that doctors or ami-lies will not be prosecuted or carrying out the procedure.

But the debate has gone on. Doctors and politicians

have weighed in, warning about supposed health risks andinringements o inants rights.

It didnt occur to me even in my nightmares that Ishould have to ask mysel the question ahead o my thbirthday whether I was allowed to survive the murder othe Jews to have to witness this, wrote Knobloch.

Born in Munich in , she survived the Holocaustbecause a ormer employee o her uncles, Kreszentia Hum-mel, took her in and pretended she was her illegitimatedaughter.

She said German Jews had spent decades justiyingtheir continued presence in Germany to their amilies andriends abroad. For six decades I have had to justiy mysel

because I stayed in Germanyas a remnant o a destroyedworld, as a sheep among wolves, wrote Knobloch. Ialways readily carried this burden because I was firmlyconvinced that this country and these people deservedit. For the first time my basic convictions are starting toshake. For the first time I eel resignation. I seriously ask ithis country still wants us.

) German Constitutional Court Ruling: On Septem-ber , Germanys Constitutional Court will rule on thelegality o Germanys participation in the European Stabil-ity Mechanism ().

Most analysts expect the German high court to approveo Berlin continuing to contribute to the esm. Many, however, expect the court to impose strict conditions onGermanys participation.

A yes, but decision rom the court will elicit two gen-

eral responses rom Europe. First and most unlikely, ailingEuropean states could flatly reject German/ assistanceon account o its imposition on national sovereignty. Tiswould be a decision that effectively amounts to nationalfinancial suicide.

Second, and more likely, eurozone states could simplycapitulate to Berlins demands and sign away sovereignty inreturn or sorely needed cash.

Either way, a yes, but decision by Germanys Constitu-tional Court will augment Germanys position at the centero Europes debt crisis.

Te report comesahead o the decision by Germany and others o whether togive Greece more bailout cash.

port his initiatives.Draghi urged Germans to support his efforts to rescue

Aside rom theimplications o what happens whenthe establishment loses control anddesperate workers revolt with com-plete disregard or their own saety, the strike has crippled the worldsthird-largest platinum maker, and has

cut daily production o the preciousmetal by , ounces. Since then theLonmin situation has remained criti-cal, with just percent o the SouthArican companys workers turningup or work last week.

In the meantime, the strike bug has

gone airborne, and has now impactedGold Fields, the worlds ourth-largestgold mine. From the F: Some ,workers at a gold mine operated byGold Fields have gone on strike, in thelatest industrial strie to hit South A-ricas mining industry. Sven Lunsche,a spokesman or Gold Fields, said thewild-cat strike was not directly relatedto the crisis at the Marikana platinumcomplex. But he acknowledged that

the atmosphere in the mining indus-try is very volatile at the moment andthis may have had an indirect impacton the situation.

Furthermore, it appears that wherethe striking miners o Lonmin andGold Fields have boldly gone, many

more local unionized workers are setto go as well, in the process shutteringthe biggest industry in the SouthernArican nation .

[]he Marikana crisis has triggerednervousness throughout the indus-try, while also putting ocus on whatappears to be growing dissatisactionamong workers .

As a reminder, South Arica is theworlds third-largest producer o gold

    A no Spain. Tats what

Australias Deputy Prime Ministerand reasurer Wayne Swan said in July, replying to comments made by Andy Xie,a Singapore-based economist who saidAustralia is in danger o becomingSpain or Ireland.

It might come to a shock to peopleliving in Australia that outside analysts are comparing thenation to countries in deep financial turmoil. But Austra-lians need to wake up to the act that much o their pros-perity could be very fleeting.

According to Andy Xie, Australias Achilles heel is its

heavy reliance on China. China is now Australias largesttrading partner, eclipsing both Japan and the United States.Te relationship between Australia and China today is

similar to the relationship between Arica and the Euro-peans during the colonial era. China is using Australia asan easy and reliable place to obtain raw, unprocessed, non

value-added materials in bulk quantities. Australias world-class mines run flat out to supply Chinas demand.

Tis has been a antastic opportunity or Australia. Overthe past decade, prices o Australias exports have skyrock-eted. Consequently, tens o billions o dollars are dumpedinto Australia per year.

Yet the relationship with China has not been all good.

Despite the money bomb that has been dropped on Aus-tralia due to high commodity prices, Australia continuesto see its manuacturing sector erode. Australias persistenttrade deficit is case in point. Despite the massive amount oincome it receives selling ore to China, it spends even moremoney importing Chinese finished goods.

Australia has a classic case o the Dutch Disease, writes economic analyst Jonathan epper. While Austra-lias natural resources are increasingly exploited, its manu-acturing capability is withering.

During Europes colonial days, the advanced economiesbought the raw resources rom the colonies, turned them

into finished products and then sold them back to the colo-nies or a profit. Te result was a win or both, but a greaterwin or the advanced economy, which grew its manuactur-ing expertise and earned the greater share o the wealth.Te colony tended to stay manuacturing underdevelopedand generally dependent on the colonial power.

But now Australias boom times may be nearing theirend. Chinas command economy is drastically slowing, inventory is piling up, and demand or raw commodities isalmost sure to wither. Australia beware.

    spending

is destroying the economy. Butpolitical economist Nicholas Eberstadtisnt worried about that. In an articlepublished in the Wall Street JournalAugust , Eberstadt argued that theeffect entitlement spending is havingon the nations character is ar moredangerous.

He outlines a shocking increasein entitlement spending: percentin the last years. And thats aferadjusting or inflation and the increasein population.

Within living memory, theederal government has become anentitlements machine, he wrote. As aday-to-day operation, it devotes moreattention and resources to the publictranser o money, goods and servicesto individual citizens than to anyother objective, spending more thanor all other ends combined.

American amilies, specificallyAmerican men, have borne the ull

brunt o the resulting attack on char-acter, argues Eberstadt. He devotedconsiderable attention to making thispoint in the ull essay, but the WallStreet Journal overlooked it.

Te adverse influence o transerpayments on amily values and amilyormation in America is critical, he

writes. Earlier studies showed thatthe perverse incentives embedded inederal-amily support policies wereactually encouraging the prolierationo atherless amilies and an epidemico illegitimacy, he wrote. Te pay-ments were a vehicle or financingsingle motherhood andthe out-o-wedlock lie-style in America.

Manhood was alsodirectly attacked. Be-ore the age o entitle-

ments, sel-reliance andthe work ethic were in-tegral and indispensableelements o the ideal omanliness in America,he wrote.

Put simply the ar-rival o the entitlementsociety in America has coincidedwith a historically unprecedented exitrom gainul work by adult men, hecontinued. And once again, Eberstadt

commands a battery o statistics. Mostsurprisingly, more able-bodied Ameri-can men shirk work than in almostall o Europe, despite the Continentsinamy or entitlement spending.

Eberstadts numbers also showthat America is tolerating widespreadcheating. In , , peoplereceived government payments ordisability. In , its . million.Nearly hal o all these payments go topeople suffering mood disorders orsicknesses affecting musculoskeletal

system and the connective tissue, like back pain. Tese two are almostimpossible or doctors to diagnose.

Te entitlement system drawsmillions o people into a liestyle olying and cheating. And Eberstadtdoesnt just blame the claimants othe disability pay. Te doctors andhealth-care workers that allow thisare collaborators, as is the U.S.

    SUNDAY from page 1

including Sunday as a rule, depending on the labor law pro-visions in orce or each category o employees, accordingto the European Commissions website (emphasis addedthroughout).

I the working week is extended to six days, this law willalmost certainly remain in orce. Employers could soonbe demanding a six-day week rom most Greek workers. I

someone tries to stick to his religious principles by workingon Sunday and resting on Saturday, it would be illegal.

Catholic bishops have been working to introduce similarlaws across the EU, robbing Europes citizens o the choiceo which day they rest. Tey have tried several times tochange Europes Working ime Directive, which says thatall European workers must have at least one rest day a week,to say that all EU workers must take that rest day on Sunday.

Tey continued this push in July, when European reli-gious leaders held their annual meeting with the presidentso EU institutions. Monsignor Gianni Ambrosio, vice presi-dent o the Commission o the Bishops Conerences o theEuropean Community, called or the EU mandated Sunday

worship to encourage stable amilies and help combat Eu-ropes demographic crisis. Especially or the amily, or thespiritual lie o its members and or human relations, bothinside the amily and with relatives and riends, the com-mon Sunday rest is o undamental importance, he said.

In March, the Catholic Church and trade unions acrossEurope joined up in what the church called a holy alliance

to call or governments to enorce Sunday observance.Herbert W. Armstrong warned or years that a Euro-

pean power would enorce Sunday worship. Anyone thatreused would not be able to earn a living, to earn a wageor salary, or to engage himsel in business, he wrote.

Tat is exactly what is happening in Greece!Te Bible is ull o proo that Christ and the early

Church kept the Sabbath on Saturday, not Sunday. But i

you live in Greece and want to ollow Christs examplereusing Sunday observance and keeping Saturdayyoucould soon be out o a job! Tis is exactly what the Bibleprophesied.

We dont know, yet, i Greece will submit to this six-dayweek. It may be able to negotiate a way out o it. It couldquit the euro. Or it may be thrown out. But the economiccrisis will get worse. And now we know that the EU seesthe six-day week as a solution.

Te Bible prophesies that Europe wil l rise rom the crisisas the global economic superpower. Perhaps one o theways it will do this is by introducing a six-day workweekacross the Continent.

Tis enorced Sunday observance wont end withGreece. Watch this trend very closely. Te Bible clearlyreveals that Sunday observance is in act the mark of thebeast,as prophesied in Revelation.
