Information contained in this manual supplements existing training content, and should be used to enhance the instruction and delivery of required learning objectives. LEARNING OBJECTIVES Provide training to introduce/reinforce understanding of the following learning objectives: How to prepare for QC of a unit How to navigate the unit How to properly QC electrical components How to use the Unit Rough Checklist TRAINING GUIDELINES Before Training Familiarize yourself with the content Assess trainee’s understanding of content (beginner, moderate, advanced) Plan your training approach and prepare accordingly (necessary tools, documentation, etc.) During Training Utilize training references (trainer manual, Best Practices, etc.) Ensure trainee is attentive and utilizes their tools/resources Facilitate training using the Tell, Show, Do & Ask Model o Tell: Communicate what the expectation is. o Show: Demonstrate how to complete the activity/process. o Do: Allow them to perform the activity while you direct and provide feedback. o Ask: Follow up immediately to ensure they understood the expectation. ROUGH PURPOSE

The purpose of this manual is to serve as a guideline/resource for trainers during training sessions with Foreman.

Information contained in this manual supplements existing training content, and should be used to enhance the instruction and delivery of required learning objectives.

TRAINING GUIDELINES

Before Training Familiarize yourself with the content Assess trainee’s understanding of content (beginner, moderate, advanced) Plan your training approach and prepare accordingly (necessary tools, documentation, etc.)

coordination of project documentation prior to QC Contract Drawings

NOTES:

NAVIGATING THE UNIT

Review the process of effectively navigating the unit: Use a right shoulder approach

Ensure your right shoulder is always aligned with wall

Don’t walk through walls Look at floor markings for door openings and avoid going in between framing

Don’t move to adjoining rooms until the room has been fully inspected Use the same point of entry and exit

Review each room individually prior to the unit as a whole Review homeruns and panel once all rooms have been fully inspected

NOTES:

Ensure the Field Unit Rough Book is fully assembled and inclusive of all necessary project documentation.

Create borders for open concept areas such as kitchens and living rooms.

There are multiple methods to navigating a unit, use the approach that works best for you and your team.

Review the process of effectively navigating

each room: Review electrical components only

Review location and proximity of other trade installation only

Don’t move between components until they have been fully inspected Review the individual installation and circuity only

Begin by reviewing each component from the ceiling to floor Look to the ceiling, not at it

Review ceiling and floor components once walls are complete Assess recessed cans, floor boxes, etc.

NOTES:

Have the trainee identify the path they would take through the unit!

Review symbol legend Ensure device/box type and mounting height are accurate

Review electrical details and general notes Review FHA & ADA device location requirements, smoke/CO detector clearance and mounting instructions, and coded notes

Review unit circuity plan and panel schedule Ensure wiring size and type are accurate

Review cabinet and dimension plan Ensure spacing and location are accurate

Review cutsheets/submittals Ensure drawing and submittal match

Verify floor finish and ensure height adjustments were made accordingly.

QC OF ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS, cont. |ROUGH Review how to identify code violations:

Inspect devices for NEC compliance Review 6’/12’ wall space rule, 2’/4’ over counter space rule, box depths for sheet rock, strapping, closet lighting locations, etc.

Inspect devices for FHA/ADA compliance Review bathroom and kitchen device heights and locations, especially over counter

Inspect devices for NFPA 72 compliance Review smoke detector & fire alarm device heights & compliant locations

Review how to identify bad craftsmanship:

Review wiring means and methods Ensure no excess wire or wasteful routing

Review wiring protection Ensure grommets and nail plates are used

Review device placement & alignment Ensure devices are straight and level using a laser level

NOTES:

Have the trainee identify code compliant installation!

Have the trainee verify alignment using a laser level!

UNIT ROUGH CHECKLIST Review how to use the Unit Rough Checklist*

Indicate location and date of inspection Note the building and/or floor, and unit #

Verify quality installation for each section of the checklist Initial items as they are verified

Sign, post, and store the completed checklist once unit QC is complete Post completed checklist in a safe location and once store away record keeping once scope is complete

NOTES:

Have the trainee use the Unit Rough Checklist to inspect a unit!

Use the Unit Rough QC Checklist as a guide for what to look for!
