Assignment # 4

This is my blog: http://noe89.blog.com/

Presentation

Welcome to my blog! I’m Noelia and I’m studying at a teacher training college at the UTN in

Capital Federal, Argentina. The name of the subject is Aplicaciones de Informática a la Enseñanza

del Inglés.

This blog is aimed at sharing information related to different tools which teachers might find

very useful to be used on the web so as to improve their lessons. With these tools, students may

feel more motivated as these sites show interesting ways of learning English with up-to-date

activities and games.

In the book How to teach english with technology, Dudeney and Hockly (2008:93) state that

“a blog is esentially an online journal or diary, usually written by one person, which is added to

regularly.” Besides, most blogs allow visitors to add comments which can be seen by the blog

owner and other visitors. On the other hand, “a wiki is like a public website, or public web page,

started by one person, but which subsequent visitors can add to, delete or change as they wish.”

Also, wikis are more dynamic and may have multiple authors. (p. 93 – Chapter 7)

As a result, I’ve chosen to use a blog because as it is a collaborative web space and open

to any visitors, my students are allowed to edit or show their work as well.

I hope you find my blog useful and interesting!

Sample # 1: FODEY

It’s an interesting site where you can create your own newspaper about whatever you want.

1- First, enter this link http://www.fodey.com/generators/newspaper/snippet.asp. You do not need to

create an account because the site is open to anyone.

2- Then, you have to follow the following steps:

a- Think of the name of the newspaper.

b- Write the date of the event.

c- Think of an appealing headline. and

d- Create your story which can be about sports, shows, politics, etc.

e- Finally, you click on GENERATE and you will see your news.

Sample # 2: VOKI

Look!! This is my example. I hope you enjoy it

Page 3: Tp # 4 noe

VOKI is a funny tool that facilitates the creation of an avatar which is a graphical representation of

the user or character invented. It is a digital component in which you can choose the color of your

eyes, hairstyle and you can also add your voice and movement to it.

It’s very appealing to children as they can have fun by creating a lot of different faces and more.

Would you like to try? Let’s follow these easy steps:

1- First, enter this site http://www.voki.com/create.php. After that, you need to have an account so

click on the button ‘register’ and start the process. Once you are there, write all the information

required and then wait for the confirmation to be sent by e-mail.

2- Once you have access to your own account you can start creating your Voki.

3- Select the option ‘create a new voki’.

4- Once you are here, you can customize your character (change the color of skin, eyes, hair, the

clothes, add glasses or other extra things) you can give a voice to your voki (you just need a

microphone or notebook, you can type the text and it will be turned into a speech by the program),

you can also change the background of your Voki and change the color of the player.

5- Once you have added all the things you want, you have to press the button ‘publish’. Once it is

done you will have a lot of options to share your work, be sure that you copy the embedded code

correctly.

I HOPE YOU LIKE THIS TOOL AS MUCH AS I DID!

Sample # 3: ToonDoo

This is an excellent tool if you want to work with, for example, stories of all kinds. Children may

have fun by creating comics in a very funny way. They may add a context, a character or more in

different positions, dialogues, among other incredible things.

1- First, enter this site http://www.toondoo.com/ . You need to create and account and then start

working on your project.

Page 5: Tp # 4 noe

2- Go to the right part of the page and you will find a lot of tools for you to choose. You may create

your own comic, make a toon book, a character, etc. In my case, I’ve chosen the first one: The

ToonDoo Maker. Don’t worry because the steps are very easy to follow so try and create whatever

you want.

This is my example... I created the background, then I put the character in different positions and

finally I added short dialogues.

If you use the ToonDoo Maker, click on it and you will have to choose a layout, then

the background, the character and the speech bubbles.

This site is great for creating posters related to a personal expererience or with your family/ friends,

about a hero, etc. You can add any picture you want, a tittle and a comment.

1- First, enter this site http://wigflip.com/automotivator/. You do not need to create an account.

2- To start preparing your poster, choose a beautiful image which will serve as the presentation.

You can open a picture from your computer, the web or a picture which is provided by the site.

3- Once you have selected your picture, you can choose the tittle of your picture, the font, the color

of the mark and add a short text which explains in few words what you want to tell the reader.

This is my example of a personal experience...!
