THE VOLGADACHA HOUSE IS LOCATED IN A BUCOLICRUSSIAN VILLAGE ON THE UPPER REACHES OF VOLGARIVER. DACHA, IN RUSSIA, IS A COUNTRY HOUSE OR ACOTTAGE USED AS A VACATION RETREAT.

LA CASA VOLGADACHA SE ENCUENTRA EN UN BUCÓ-LICO PUEBLO RUSO EN LA PARTE ALTA DEL RÍO VOLGA.DACHA, EN RUSIA, SE REFIERE A UNA CASA DE CAMPOO UNA CASA USADA COMO UN RETIRO VACACIONAL.

Seen from the windows is a 17-century orthodox churchcathedral and glimpses of waterfront of Volga. Prior to cons-truction the 3.000 sqm plot was thickset by weeds namely thecow parsnip reaching 3 metres high.A family with two kids wanted a quiet retreat from the every-day busy life in the suburbs of Moscow.The house where youspend most of the time inevitably gets cluttered so the idea forVolgaDacha was to have a clean and minimal space, almost tothe point of austerity.The house has a living room and an open kitchen on the firstfloor and separated master bedroom and kids sleeping placeson the loft.The bathroom has a glass door leading to the deckwith an outdoor shower.A vast terrace made of Siberian larchand surrounding the house can be used to relax with a goodbook or an iPad.Wooden shutters close floors to ceiling glass-sliding doors when owners are not at the VolgaDacha. Due togood insulation heated floors can keep the house warm and asmall wood stove in the winter.The concrete floors are kee-ping it cool during the hot summer months.The courtyard formed by a house and a shed was levelled bysand, than covered with geotextiles and thick layer of gravel toprovide for a maintenance free garden.

La visión desde los ventanales presenta una catedral ortodoxadel siglo XVII y atisba la zona ribereña del Volga. Antes de laconstrucción, los 3.000m2 de la parcela exhibían malezas quellegaban a los tres metros de altura.Una familia con dos niños quería un retiro tranquilo, lejos de laajetreada vida cotidiana en los suburbios de Moscú. La casadonde uno pasa la mayor parte del tiempo acaba inevitable-mente abarrotada, por lo que la idea principal de VolgaDachaera tener un espacio limpio y mínimo, lo más cercano posiblea la austeridad.La casa presenta un salón-estar y una cocina en el primer piso,y un dormitorio principal y las habitaciones de los niños que-dan en la planta superior. El baño tiene una puerta de vidrioque da a la cubierta, con una ducha al aire libre. Una gran terra-za de alerce de Siberia, y que rodea la casa, puede utilizarsepara relajarse con un buen libro o un iPad. Unas persianas demadera cierran desde el suelo hasta el techo ambas plantas,ocultando las puertas corredizas de vidrio cuando los propie-tarios no están en el VolgaDacha. Debido al buen aislamiento,los suelos radiantes mantienen la casa caliente, con la inestima-ble ayuda de una pequeña estufa de madera en el invierno. Lospavimentos de hormigón consiguen mantenerlo fresco duran-te los calurosos meses de verano.El patio, formado por una casa y un cobertizo, fue nivelado conarena, que cubre con geotextiles y una gruesa capa de grava unjardín libre de mantenimiento.

THE PLOT IS SHAPED LIKE THE TRUNK OF A LONG PYRA-MID IN PLAN, IT IS ALMOST FLAN AND IT MEASURES 2HA. IT IS DIVIDED IN TWO PARTS, ONE, ON THE NORTHSIDE, COVERED BY A VINEYARD, AND THE OTHER, ONTHE LOWER SOUTH SIDE, WHERE THERE ARE BOTHDECIDUOUS (CHESTNUTS,WALNUTS) AND EVERGREENTREES (PINES AND HOLM OAKS).

LA FINCA TIENE UNA FORMA TRAPEZOIDAL, PRÁCTICA-MENTE PLANA Y CON UNA EXTENSIÓN DE 2 HA. SEDIVIDE EN DOS PARTES, UNA, EN LA ZONA NORTE,DONDE SE DISPONE UN VIÑEDO Y LA OTRA, EN LAPARTE BAJA, SUR, EN LA QUE HAY UNA ZONA DE ÁRBO-LES, DE HOJA CADUCA, (CASTAÑOS, NOGALES, ETC.)COMO DE HOJA PERENNE (PINOS Y ENCINAS).

The dwelling is placed in the centre of the plot, dividing it intwo like a diaphragm. It is a pure concrete box opened in themiddle, where the living is placed, by two large French doors(9 x 2,5 m) in both North and South faces, which allow a com-plete transparency that visually connects the vineyard withthe trees.The house is conceived attending sustainable concepts such as:green flat roof (planted with low water consumption plants),insulated sliding shutters and awnings (that open or closedepending on weather conditions), crossed ventilation (ope-nings in the concrete allow for ventilation in both North-Southand East- West directions) and economic construction (thearchitect has been also the home builder, has sought at all time,simple construction and local solutions. The final price hasbeen from 60.000 €).Two interior elements, bathrooms, installations and kitchen,divide the house in a living room at the centre and two bedro-oms, one on each end. The openings in the concrete volumeform two visual axis shaped like a cross, one transversal acrossthe living and another longitudinal that links the bedrooms.Atthe same time, the pool area, intersected with the volume ofthe house, enhances the continuity between the inside and theoutside.

La vivienda se dispone en el centro de la finca, dividiéndola en lasdos partes antes mencionadas, a modo de diafragma. Se trata deun paralelepípedo puro de hormigón, roto en su parte central,donde se sitúa el salón-comedor, por dos cristaleras de 9x2,5men las caras norte-sur, de esta manera se produce una transpa-rencia visual, que conecta la zona de viñedo con la del arbolado.La vivienda se concibe desde el inicio, con criterios de sosteni-bilidad, los más destacados, son los siguientes: cubierta vegetal(compuesta por plantas crasas, de bajo consumo de agua), con-traventanas correderas aislantes y toldos solares (se abren ocierran en función de la época del año y de la situación del sol),ventilación cruzada (las aperturas en el volumen de hormigónprovocan dos líneas de ventilación, una, norte-sur y la otraeste-oeste) y construcción económica (el arquitecto ha sidotambién el constructor de la vivienda, se ha buscado en todomomento, soluciones constructivas simples y locales, el preciofinal de la misma ha sido de 60.000 €).Dos piezas interiores, baños, instalaciones y cocinas, distribu-yen el espacio interior en una zona central de salón-comedory dos dormitorios en los laterales. Las aperturas del volumende hormigón, producen dos ejes visuales en forma de cruz, unotransversal, a través del salón, y el otro, longitudinal, une los dosdormitorios. Por otro lado, la zona de la piscina se macla conel volumen de la vivienda, en la zona central acristalada, produ-ciendo un efecto de continuidad exterior-interior.
