The Voice of Holy Trinity
June 2017 “... Since the kingdom of God is not just words, it is power.” 1 CORINTHIANS 4:20
HOLY TRINITY GREEK ORTHODOX CATHEDRAL 3131 NE Glisan St., Portland, Oregon 97232 503-234-0468 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Parishioners and Friends,
Please be sure to join us
Sunday, June 4th for Orthros
(8:45 a.m) and Divine Liturgy
(10:00 a.m.) and later at 5:00
p.m. for the Kneeling Vespers
as we celebrate Pentecost. His
Eminence Metropolitan
Gerasimos will be joining us
for Vespers and for Orthros
((9:00 a.m.) and Divine
Liturgy (10:00 a.m.) for
Monday of the Holy Spirit.
As the Cathedral of the Holy
Trinity these services comprise our parish Feastday
celebration! We also have the Saturday of the Souls the
day prior on June 3rd. Orthros will be at 8:30 a.m. and
Divine Liturgy at 9:30 a.m. Be sure to give us the names
of your departed loved ones and you may also bring
koliva for the service.
We will be joined at the Kneeling Vespers by
parishioners and clergy from other local Orthodox
parishes. Fr. Tom Paris will also be with us for all the
services mentioned above.
I highlight these worship services because I want us
to celebrate our Feastday with much fervor and because
worship should always be the core of what we do. I also
want to highlight two important youth ministries as we
come into the Summer months.
We have our Summer Camp which will take place at
Camp Angelos from Sunday, July 9th until Friday, July
14th! Our theme this year is #blessed and as always it
will be an exciting week of fun, Christian fellowship and
spiritual growth for our children. Many life-long
friendships and wonderful memories are made at summer
camp and Camp Angelos is an ideal location for our kids
to unplug and enjoy the beauty of nature. Please be sure
to sign your kids up right away or encourage family
members and friends with camp age children to do so.
The ages are entering 3rd grade through high school to
participate. We also need counselors and anyone
that is out of high school and can apply.
Scholarships are available for Summer Camp so
please contact me. To register for camp online
go to http://app.campdoc.com/register/holytrinity
and to sign up to be a counselor use this link,
https://goo.gl/forms/VASOkRkbmYSUmEWX2
Finally, I want to highlight our Vacation
Church School ministry which will take place
later in the Summer this year from August 14th
through August 18th. We have not finalized the
details of the program, but it will be for children
entering 1st- 5th Grades. They will meet each
morning for a brief prayer time in church, fun
learning activities, crafts, snacks, the opportunity
to get to know each other and make new friends with kids
from other Orthodox Churches as well! This year,
because of the timing, we will be focusing on the Virgin
Mary, Theotokos and we will participate in the liturgy for
the Falling Asleep of the Virgin Mary.
More details about VCS will be forthcoming, but
please mark your calendars. Teens and young adults are
needed and welcome to be assistants and parents are
welcome to and needed to help as well!
We are looking forward to a wonderful Summer and
we hope that you will be participating with us in worship
and the various activities that continue at the Cathedral
that continue during this beautiful season!
Love in Christ,
Fr. Paul
