The Ushuaia

The Ushuaia was originally built for the United States agency NOAA (National Oceanic &

Atmospheric Administration), but has since been refurbished as a passenger ship to

accommodate up to 84 guests within its 41 comfortable twin cabins and suites. This ice-

strengthened expedition vessel makes for an excellent base from which to explore the Antarctic

seas. She has a full complement of Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs), which are ideal for making

onshore landings and for cruising around icebergs and accessing otherwise inaccessible areas of

coastline. She provides ample deck space from which to survey the surrounding landscapes and

maintains an open bridge policy.

Public areas comprise a large dining room, an observation lounge and bar, library and small

infirmary. Chefs prepare fresh meals each day using many local specialities; meanwhile the bar is

well stocked with a range of carefully selected wines and spirits. There is also a conference room,

with modern multimedia equipment, perfect for evening presentations and group discussions.

The expert captain and his expedition crew are all highly experienced in Antarctic navigation,

with a great passion for nature. Meanwhile, the specialist team of expedition leaders and

lecturers possess a wealth of knowledge, enthusiasm and love of Antarctica and of its wildlife and

marine life inhabitants.
