Danny Bornemann and Naomi Man-ski were recognized for 25 years of service. Alberto Barrientos, Diana Johnston, Eff Dade and Gregorio Duenes were recognized for 30 years of service. Elizabeth Arambula and James Vogel were recognized for 35 years of service.

Carl Krueger and Terry Murdoch were presented the 20-Year Safe Worker Award. Danny Bornemann was presented the 25-Year Safe Worker Award.

Two departments were presented the Safe Department Award. Electric Utili-ties was recognized for three years without a loss of time accident. Water/Wastewater Maintenance was recognized for one year without a loss of time accident.

Things to do! Upcoming Community Events Area children and their families will again have a free opportunity to learn fishing techniques and put their skills to work at the

2nd Annual Just for Kids Fishin’ Day on Saturday, April 11. The free event is at the Irma Lewis Seguin Outdoor Learning Center, located at 1865 E. Hwy 90. Activities get underway at 9 a.m. and wrap up at noon. Two on-site classes will be offered. “Basics of Fishing” will be held at 9:30 a.m. and “Advanced Fishing Techniques” at 10:30 a.m. Loaner poles will be provided on a first come, first served basis. If a participant has their own pole, we suggests bringing it. Bait, tackle and lunch will also be provided. All fishing will be-catch-and release. Drawings for prizes will be held throughout the morning. The recommended age group for this event is 5-12. The event is sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department, Texas Game Warden Association, Texas Parks and Wildlife Association and Irma Lewis Seguin Out-door Learning Center.

Moonlight and Roses will be held in the Memorial Rose Garden on Friday, April 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. The Memorial Rose Gar-den is located in Walnut Springs Park at 317 W. Court Street just behind the Guadalupe County Annex. Those attending should bring their own beverage and lawn chair. Local restaurants donate hors d’oeuvres, accompanied by live entertainment. The event is free and open to the public. Donations are suggested to offset the cost of the event. Commemorative glasses will be sold. Beverages will not be provided. The evening venue kicks off with the announcement of the 2014-2015 Main Street Program Awards. The nine-member Main Street Advisory Board sponsors the event along with assistance from two dozen generous restaurants, flower shops and volunteers. In case of inclement weather the event will be held at the Texas Theatre.

The 7th Annual Earth Day Festival is April 25 in Central Park, located at 201 S. Austin St., from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Join area busi-nesses, organizations and community groups to learn how we can improve our quality of life through conservation, recycling, habitat improvement and the wise use of natural resources. This event is free and open to the public. Enjoy information booths, children's activ-ities, entertainment, music, vendor booths, demonstrations and more. This event is organized by the Main Street Program.

Trade Days will be held in conjunction with the Earth Day Festival on April 25. The event kicks off at 9 a.m. and wraps up at 4 p.m. As many as 100 vendors will be on hand selling arts, crafts, food, clothing, plants, collectibles, antiques and other items. Vendors set up in the street around Central Park. Entertainment, historic attractions and fun for the kids is also available. There is no admission cost, however items and food are not free.

The Cinderella Ball, for fathers/father figures and daughters, will be held Friday, June 26 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Seguin Coli-seum. Attire is semi-formal to formal. Tickets are $40 per couple and $10 for each additional princess. Tickets are available at the Seguin Police Department. Proceeds benefit the SPD D.A.R.E. Program. Valet parking and carriage rides can also be purchased in advance. For more information and volunteer opportunities, please call Officer Hope Vasquez at 830-401-2386 or e-mail at [email protected]. This event is organized by the Seguin Police Department.

The annual Cops and Kids Picnic is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 16 at the Patricia King-Irving Large Pavilion at Max Starke Park. There will be music, food and games. All children 12 and under will be given a complimentary lunch con-sisting of a hotdog, chips and a drink. Children will be given raffle tickets for the chance to win one of dozens of bikes. Raffle winners must be present to claim their prize. If you are interested in volunteering to run a game, contact MC Myers at (830) 401-2353 or Stacy Passante at (830) 401-2362. The event is organized by the Seguin Police Department.
