Bali is one of the 34 provinces of the Republic of Indonesia and has become the prime holiday destination in

Indonesia as well as one of the major holiday destinations for international tourists. The island is located in the westernmost end of the Lesser Sunda Islands, lying

between Java to the west and Lombok to the east, and divided into 9 districts (8 regencies and 1 municipality) with

population around four million people.

Denpasar is the capital and most populous city of Bali.

The vast majority of the Balinese people are Hindu so there are a significant number of temples on the island. Temple or Pura in

Indonesian is the place for worship, and the biggest,

most important and holiest temple in Bali is the Mother

Temple of Besakih.

Bali has a tropical climate all year with average temperature of 31

degrees Celsius and two different seasons. Dry

season is between May

and September with high humidity and wet season is between October andApril

with low humidity. From June to August, the weather is usually nice, breezy and

cool.

The main language is Indonesia, however being one of the most favourite holiday destinations in

the world, not only many people speak English but also other foreign

languages such as French, Japanese, Chinese,

Originated and only done by the people of Banjar Kaja, Sesetan in Denpasar city, Omed-Omedan is a one-of-a

kind ritual that involves all the youth from Banjar Kaja. The ceremony is done every year one day after Nyepi.

In Omed-Omedan ceremony, all the unmarried youth in the range of 17-30 years old are gathered and divided into two groups, the male and female. Both groups take position

facing each other on the main street of Sesetan, then at the signal of a Hindu leader, both sides swiftly approach the center of the road. Male participants pull and kiss the female participants while other villagers pour buckets of

water over them.

Although there are physical contacts between men and women (lots of hugging and mouth-kissing), the sexual

harassments rarely occur in this ceremony, as all the youth respect each other and do this just for fun, expressing their

joy and hope for the years to come. Interestingly, many singles have been reported to successfully find their partners

during Omed-Omedan ceremony.

DIAGEO WORLD CLASS BARTENDER COMPETITION 2015 HAS DONE THEIR FIRST ROUND

One of the most prestigious bartending competition; DIAGEO World Class has once again challenged every talented bartenders from prominent resorts and restaurants to emerge as the best. The first round was commenced on April 2015, and has selected 10 bartenders (9 from Bali and 1 from Jogjakarta) to compete on the semi final round in May. Two winners from Jakarta and two winners from Bali will then be sent to compete at South East Asia finals on Thailand. Since first running on 2009, DIAGEO has established themselves as an international platform for bartenders to gain worldwide acknowledgement.

Swim lovers, this one might pump up your excitement! Waterbom Bali recently announced that they have established their second phase of enhancement project, and will open several thrilling slides to please adrenaline seekers in their top-notch water-based amusement park. Some of the soon-to-be-announced slides are Double Trouble, Fast N Fierce, Twin Racers, Smash Down 2.0 and an innovative ‘Flow Rider Double’—a five foot stationary wave where two riders will be able to surf the wave at the same time with the choice of a stand up board or a lay-down board.

The Eco-Friendly Hotel Prama Sanur showed their support to help the planet’s sustainability and benefit by taking part in ‘Earth Hour’ environmental challenge. On March 28th, Prama Sanur switched down to minimum lighting and switching off non-essential lights after hours to conserve energy. Lights were switched off completely at several areas of the hotel, including restaurants and gardens, as well as the minimal lights on the corridors. Guests were highly encouraged to use minimal lights in the room and selected guests were invited to partake to ‘Cocktail under the star’ during the event.

In certain ways, Lombok is a fine choice of travel destination beside Bali, many of the island’s scenic spots still remain untouched by lavish villas, beach lounge or five-star hotel brand, making it a perfect destination for a tranquil holiday or romantic honeymoon getaway. Senggigi is the most renowned tourist destination in Lombok, and the oldest one. Boasting series of white sand beaches and the calm water make Senggigi an ideal place for relaxing

and swimming. However, there are certain spots with challenging waves suitable for surfers. Beneath the water of Sengigi you can find many colourful reefs filled with variety of marine life, providing a pleasant space to snorkle and dive.

CARANG SARI

Situated amongst rice paddies field, lush jungle and the alluring Ayung

Built at 1953, Jagatnatha is a state temple built

with the sole purpose of worshipping Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa (Supreme god), although Balinese Hindu worship many gods, they believe that all the gods are manifestations of one supreme deity.

Jagatnatha is included in the list of ‘Pura Kahyangan’, meaning, it is one of the most significant place of worship in the island of Bali. The temple is managed by the regional government of Badung Regency, unlike any other temples in Bali which have their own ‘pengemong’

or small group of volunteer to manage the whole temple’s preservation and activities.

There are several main elements and structures in Jagatnatha main area, such as a padmasana / shrine, Several Bale (Balinese traditional pavilion), fish pond, and a well where people come to take the tirtha (holy water for ritual procession). The padmasana is made from white coral, consists of an empty throne on top of a cosmic turtle and two dragons, which symbolize the foundation of the world.

is mainly made from large nutmeg trees that can grow up to 40 meter above the ground. It is a sanctuary for long-tailed macaques, a species of monkey that commonly found in the island
