The Gospel According to Greg

Greg Taylor Greg Taylor Greg Taylor Greg Taylor [email protected] I love First Christian Church! In fact, I could spend an entire month of columns sharing in depth of the dozens of reasons I love our church. It’s a special place and I am so honored to be able to serve here – thank you. This reality becomes especially evident when I’m able to spend time with pastors and ministers from other churches – as I did last week at the Moody Bible Institute Pastor’s Conference. The week was a huge blessing in many ways – but at the top of my list was a reminder of how lucky and blessed I am to serve at FCC! Several items are on my heart as I write this column on my deck early Tuesday morning: First, my heart goes out to the Lowrey family, as they mourn the loss of FCC Timothy, Wade Lowrey from Ozark Christian College. Wade made quite an impact on many lives in his short 34 years on this earth. You may remember Wade preached our one service Sunday in December of 2010 (and did an awesome job!), and also used his gift of humor throughout the years in music and drama presentations. However, I think Wade’s greatest mark was in absolute love of people – this was driven home again and again via Facebook in the hour and days following his death. His final Facebook post is something I need to share and pray all of the time, simply “Thankful for the Day!” Amen and amen. Also, as we continue through our sermon series “Women of the Faith,” I’m reminded how blessed we are at FCC to have some incredible women of faith serving the Lord right here in Clinton. So thankful for wonderful teachers like Norma Harrold and Judy Shaw who study hours each

week to correctly teach God’s word. So thankful for servants like Karen Rice who goes above and beyond all the time in service to our church. Thankful for women like Becky Glenn, Leslie Gwozdz and Susan Klein who serve on the board of COPE and bring to our attention the impact of this ministry, and especially missionary Barb O’Donohue. Thankful for Barb Baker and her team of ministry servants who help the benevolence ministry make a difference week in and week out. Thankful for women like Rachel Lyons, Lindsey Moody and Leann Sosamon who use the venue of sports and FCA to influence teens for Christ. Thankful for young women who are so passionate about their faith like Kayla Gwozdz, Abby Wilson, Mykenzie Witzke and others. Praise the Lord! I really loved our one service Sunday, how about you? I know it can be viewed as a hassle to have to change when we go to church – either earlier or later – but I love so much seeing our entire church gathered together. This past Sunday was especially impacting, as we witnessed a baby dedication, a baptism, and heard Kent read the names of the loved ones lost. I still can’t believe we were able to get everything squeezed in to a 60 minute service! Finally, today (Wednesday, May 30) marks my 20 year wedding anniversary. I am so blessed to have Marla as my wife, and the mother of my children, and I can’t believe how lucky I am! Marla, I love you so much – thanks for making me better every day. Have a great week, Greg

Young at Heart David Buck, Coordinator

When our souls prosper, we flourish on the inside. We are at peace; we are full of joy; we are content; we live with a sense of purpose; we are growing spiritually; and we have strong, loving relationships with others. “Reputation is what men and women think of us; character is what God and the angels know of us.” - Thomas Paine On the 6th of June, Marcia Wise will sing us a little closer to Heaven and we’ll enjoy every minute of our time with her. She’s a great talent that we’ve been blessed with and her singing has blessed so many. Then on the 11th of July, we’re planning on Julie McClarey giving us a rendering of piano music that will fill our hearts with the sweetness of Jesus. “Beware of the barrenness of a busy life.” - Socrates On the 9th of June, we’ll go to a stage play in Sullivan called, ”Grease”. They always put on a fine show. July will take us to the fine food and talent at the Beef House and we’ll enjoy music of Broadway and rolls. Myers Dinner Theater will be our next adventure in August. Then a nice trip to Kimmswick, Mo. in October, with fine food that will be delightful. Branson is our trip in November and we’ve got a fine line-up. “There is a past which is gone forever, but there is a future which is still our own.” - F.W. Robertson We receive from God according to our faith, so it is vital for us to develop a correct mind-set in the area of God’s provision for us. Don’t settle for lack in your life, but instead expect abundance according to God’s Word. “It’s better to have a rich soul than to be rich.” - Olga Korbut

Excerpts from Ernie Ernie Harvey Jr.Ernie Harvey Jr.Ernie Harvey Jr.Ernie Harvey Jr. [email protected]

VBS Corner This week we want to make special mention of two of the most important departments in VBS. In fact, some of the young people might say that the snacks are one of the best things. Karen Rice and her crew are outdoing themselves this year with surprise cupcakes, handprint cookies, apple smiles and many other special treats for everyone. Without our nursery department, headed up this year by Debbie Dusch, we would lose some very valuable workers. We appreciate the reliable babysitters that help with the little ones. Two reminders: 1. Please remember to turn in the registration forms. The children

may bring them to their Sunday School classroom or you may leave them at the VBS table in the foyer.

2. We still need the following items: rolls of Lifesavers, pieces of polar fleece material each 1 1/2 yards long, bars of soap, miscellaneous pieces of metal such as nuts, washer, odd pieces of silverware or even shoehorns. We do have enough shoeboxes and plastic bags now. Thank you.

Primary Department Summer Program The special summer program, “Agents In Action” starts June 3 during the Sunday School hour, 9:30 to 10:30 am. We are calling for a lot of boys and girls in first, second and third grade to be God’s special agents. Their mission is to discover how to have fun uncovering the daily missions of special agents for God. There will be senior agents each Sunday sharing the mission, playing games, making projects, and occasionally a video, snack and prizes. So put on your secret agent clothes and join the team.

It has been a few months since the latest edition of Christian Music Update,

so I thought I would share a few songs that have caught my ear recently.

Most of these songs can be heard on various Christian music stations in the

area: WCIC 91.5 from the Peoria area and WBGL 88.3 (in our area). Also,

you might try some of the online radio stations such as: Air1.com and

klove.com. Finally, for those who listen to satellite radio or thinking about

subscribing, The Message is a great Christian radio on XM/Sirius.

Here’s some of the music you might be hearing currently:
