The Gospel According to Greg

Greg Taylor Greg Taylor Greg Taylor Greg Taylor [email protected] Last Saturday brought the 6th annual Intentional Church Conference in Decatur, this year featuring Gene Appel from Anaheim, CA. Gene was such a blessing to the 30 plus from Clinton FCC in attendance, speaking about change and the issues and potential problems change can create. Over 300 attended the conference, and I’m asking you to mark your calendars now – Saturday, April 26, 2014 – ICC 2014! I would love for YOU to attend. Special thanks to our own Leslie Gwozdz, Karen Rice, and Marla Taylor for assisting with registration, and thanks also to the crew at Decatur FCC for once again hosting the event. This Sunday, April 28 is another big day at FCC for several reasons:

Sunday is Graduate Recognition Sunday, as we honor those students who will graduate from high school in the next 4-5 weeks. A special Graduate Brunch will take place in the Cable Building at 9:30am, featuring guest speaker Jeff Mayfield, and H.S. grads will be recognized during both services.

Our Not a Fan series continues, with part 5 – the Comfortable Cross.

My good friend Jeff Mayfield will be preaching during both services, and you will NOT want to miss this powerful message. Over the years, some of my favorite Sundays at FCC have been when ministry friends have blessed us with God’s Word – from Mike Mallick to Bob Monts to Lynn Laughlin to the late Bob Lowery. I’m really looking forward to hearing Jeff on Sunday – you will be blessed as well.

Sunday will bring special music during first service from our adult

choir, and a special during both services from the chime choir. I love seeing FCCers use their musical talent to bring glory to God!

Our Sunday evening youth groups and REVEAL are winding to a

conclusion as spring moves toward summer. All programming continues this Sunday – let’s finish the year strong! (Early time

for preschool and grade school youth groups this week.)

In addition, don’t forget about the following:

Ladies Night Out is THIS Thursday evening featuring our own Jan Rutledge at 6:30pm.

Saturday, May 4 is our 5 K to Raise 5 K fundraiser – huge event that

helps to fund our summer mission trips. Are you in? Monday, May 6 – new Bible study - Healing Life’s Hurts, Habits

and Hang-ups begins in the Cable Building at 7pm. If you are interested contact Brenda Phelps at 217-720-7521 or email her at [email protected].

Sunday, May 12 – Mother’s Day at FCC and end of the year choir

cantata.

Saturday, May 18 – Ladies Escape at 8:45am! More info about this event in the K this week!

Sunday, May 19 – Roll Out Sunday – make every effort to be at

church at either 8:15 or 11 as you see what the future holds at FCC.

Sunday, May 26 – ONE SERVICE SUNDAY at 9:30am -

Remembrance Sunday. Have a great week – see you Sunday! GT

P. S. I’m excited to announce that last week the Kent Hickerson Endowed Scholarship at Lincoln Christian University was finalized and a yearly scholarship will be offered beginning in the fall of 2014. Clinton FCC students attending LCU will have first priority and to date $11,113.00 has been given through our Easter offering to this endowed scholarship fund. We will continue to invite members and friends of FCC to contribute to this scholarship fund in the months ahead. We look forward to Labor Day weekend 2013 when we will celebrate 30 years of ministry at FCC by Kent & Merla Hickerson.

On May 1st we’ll have the Lerch Twins singing for us. They are a sister group that came to us with high regard. Then in June we are looking forward to the Primetimers Quartet singing good Southern gospel music. Many more top programs are coming in the future. “We turn not older in years, but newer every day. - Emily Dickinson Our trip to the Celebration cruise boat will happen on May 16th and the big bands will share their talents with us. Then in June, we’ll travel to Sullivan’s Little Theater on the Square, with lunch at Jibby’s. In July, we’ll travel to the Beef House for fine food and yeast roll along with excellent music. Our August trip will be to Myer’s Dinner Theater for a fine meal with a great stage play. Our Branson Trip will be in November and is almost planned. “How good it feels, the hand of an old friend.” - Henry Longfellow Such a fine day several of us enjoyed this past Saturday at the Intentional Church Conference in Decatur at 1st Christian Church. It was surrounded by love and fellowship. Good testimonies and experiences were on the venue. The guest speaker Gene Appel gave us a very inspiring message that send us home with love flowing all over all of us. What a day covering us with Jesus! Please don’t miss next year. “Faith is a fantastic adventure in trusting Him.” - Corrie ten Boom

VBS Corner Thank you again to all of you who signed up to help in VBS in any way. We are so pleased with the wonderful response. However, there are some places where help is still needed for “Kingdom Rock” so if you haven’t turned in your sign-up sheets, please do so. Our greatest need is for prayer partners for the workers during the week of June 17-21. If you signed up to do prayer support you will receive a postcard with the name of a person working VBS week. Please start praying for that person as they prepare for Vacation Bible School and also pray for them the week of VBS as they witness to the children who are attending. We often hear comments about how much this means to them and that they can tell you are praying for them. We so appreciate all the support and help you give us. YOU ROCK!

Proud grandparents are Ken & Susan Klein and Richard & Jeannie Goff.

Dick Koritz used the phrase, “Open Enrollment” in his communion meditation yesterday and it really caught my attention! It reflects Jesus’ words, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matt. 11:28) He didn’t say “some” or “you who have everything figured out.” He said, “all” who are weary. Which really got me thinking about the song, “All the Poor and Powerless,” which we did in the 11:00 service. It takes the idea of “all” to a different place…a place of confession and commitment. Here are the lyrics:

All the poor and powerless And all the lost and lonely

And all the thieves will come confess And know that You are holy And know that You are holy

And all will sing out hallelujah And we will cry out hallelujah

All the hearts who are content And all who feel unworthy

And all who hurt with nothin' left Will know that You are holy

Shout it

Go on and scream it from the mountains Go on and tell it to the masses

That He is God

These lyrics take me in different directions in my reflections. This idea of open enrollment is a gift, but it is also a calling to commitment to our Creator! Philippians 2:10-11 tells us:

“…That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

No matter who we are, whether we are a Christ-follower or pagan, we are welcomed into God’s loving arms! However, whether we accept his love or not in this life will not matter at judgment as we will confess that Jesus is Lord. This song calls to “All” of us to cry out to God in our strength, weakness and frailty; whether we are desperate or complacent in our

faith, in all circumstances we need to declare that He is God! “All the Poor and Powerless” | CCLI Song # 5881130 | David Leonard | Leslie Jordan © 2011 Integrity's Praise!
