They have used Zoom to meet together through their computers and smartphones. They have regularly called “one another” to check in with each other. They have discovered a way to beat loneliness and live life with “one another.” Check out our link for Life Together groups: http://www.ctkfb.org/connect/small-groups. From Your Church Council In last month’s message, I was optimistic that we would be return-ing to our normal routines by now, and I am hopeful we will be able to worship together by the time you read this. In the meantime, we all have continued to find creative ways to worship, have Bible studies, shop, stay in touch and even exercise. We can be thankful that we have some incredibly talented and creative people on our church leadership team. We must continue to stay connected and to encourage one anoth-er. Have you downloaded the Church Center app to your smart phone yet? This is a great tool and resource for you to check in for services and events, manage online giving and to see the groups that you are part of, as well as all the groups available. If you are looking for a way to get involved and be more connected, you may find a group of interest that you can join. We are the healthiest as a congregation when everyone is involved. Even while navigating many limitations, it has been necessary for the business of the church to continue. The vote for a slate of volunteers to serve on a Call Committee was favorable, and their work will commence as soon as meeting restrictions are relaxed. We also applied for the Payroll Protection Program loan through the SBA. This low interest loan is intend-ed to assist small businesses and nonprofits maintain payroll and also cover some utilities. If the loan rules are followed for how any money provided is used, the loan will be forgiven. This is especially helpful while the preschool continues making plans so they will be ready when they are able to reopen. Something we quickly realized when comparing the quality of our online services since being sheltered at home and the quality of our normal live stream services, is that we need to invest in better equipment to im-prove the quality of the live stream services. Purchasing the necessary equipment was not in the budget, so a communication went out asking you to consider giving a special donation for this. Thank you to all who respond-ed. We are richly blessed by your generosity and are excited to be able to make the needed upgrades.

May we always be kind, generous and encouraging to one another.

“…Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.”

2 Corinthians 13: 11

In His service, Lee Johnson, Council President

Facilities Update

Items accomplished relative to the Facilities Ministry for the month of May are as follows:

Facilities has been active in spite of the corona virus. Danny Drazil has been busy building shelving for the records storage sheds and the paint locker. The outdated records, everything prior to 2010, was picked up by a shredding company and disposed of in a proper manner. The storage boxes are now organized by year in an orderly fashion with locks placed on the sheds for security. The paint locker is now organized by size of container: the 5-gallon cans on the first shelf, then quarts on the second shelf, and smaller cans and brushes on the top shelf. It also has a lock. Anyone wishing to do any type of painting will need to coordinate with Dan Drazil or myself. There is a Paint Log located at the front desk. We also added small signs for each storage shed designating the assigned use. The area where the sheds are located had concrete poured in what used to be a planter, thereby provid-ing more space and a clean area. This is not to be used as a junk storage area. Peter’s Paving came mid-May to fill cracks in the parking lot. They returned a week later to reseal the parking lot, and to repaint the parking space lines. This has given the parking lot a new look, with adequate time to properly dry. Great news on the Federal Grant to increase campus security. It has now been fully approved, and we expect to have funding by the time you have received this. A new front gate will be installed first, followed by gates to the two entryways to the school classrooms. This will provide much better security for the entire campus, and should provide some relief in insurance costs. I am confident that all the parents with small children in our preschool will greatly appreciate the added security. Our Preschool Director, several church members, and parents of kids in the preschool have commented with regard to security for the kids when they are in the playground area. Suggestions have included a tall concrete wall in the rear, as well as a concrete building. I obtained a bid to build a concrete block wall with just a heavy-duty front door about the same size as the current metal structure. It would be constructed on the same spot. The cost would be about $8,000. This would provide a safe

Christ The King Food Boxes

The Christ The King office makes up boxes of food for our congregational members and friends who are in need. Thank you all so much for all your recent help in collecting needed food.

Our pantry is currently in need of small bags of rice, saltine crackers, spaghetti sauce, and

canned tuna, chicken and/or beef!

If you know anyone in need...or if YOU are in need, please do not hesitate to contact the church office.

haven for the kids, in case of a disaster. As the Facilities Representative on Council Church, I raised the issue at our April meeting and all were in agree-ment that I should proceed as soon as funding is available. With the heavy rains we had this year, the creek area has widened considerably with much new silt floating downstream. This has reduced the effectiveness of the creek in a heavy rain season. A few years ago, the creek overflowed, doing heaving damage to the playground, resulting in substantial costs to clean it up. The last rain put the water level dangerous-ly close to overflowing into the preschool area again. The last time we had the creek dredged, the cost was around $22,000. Our landscaper has agreed to dig out the creek bed as soon as it is dry enough to get his Bobcat in the ditch.

If you have any questions about the above information, please contact John Whitmer, Facilities Council Rep., [email protected].

(As promised, below is a proposal that has been accepted by our Christ The King church council, we believe we can move forward together, slowly, intentionally, respectfully

and responsibly. Thank you for your prayers and participation in this new chapter!)

Dear People of Christ The King! It’s been about 2 months since we officially stopped meeting to-gether as a church. I’ve been thankful for the technology that has given us the ability to worship and connect with each other via the internet, but I’m sure we would all agree, it’s just not the same thing as being together. As our community, our state and our nation begins the process of reopening, so we at church are working on our plan to reopen and start having live services together again. Our first service together was Pentecost Sunday, May 31. We now plan to have regularly scheduled services inside our worship spaces from now on for Sunday worship. We will do all we can to make the environment at the church as safe as possible. That being said, as we move forward and start meeting in our church building again, there will be risk as there al-ways is risk in coming together. We will be sanitizing our church building as much as possible and we have thought through as best we can how we can social distance in our worship spaces, and we believe we can do so responsibly. However, we want to make sure everyone understands that meeting at church increas-es risk and by coming to a gathering at church each person assumes that risk personally. We will minimize that risk as much as possible, but it’s important that everyone recognize their own vulnerabilities and comfort level. Here are some ways we will move forward. Our worship services will all be at their normal times (Starting June 7) on Sundays, 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. will meet in the church Sanctuary. and 6:00 p.m. for The Brook will meet in the Fellowship Hall. Here are some things to expect:

Page 8: THE KING S PAGE · The King’s Page Newsletter is published monthly by hrist The King Lutheran hurch, 1620 S. Stage oach Lane, Fallbrook, A 92028, (760) 728-3256. hrist The King

(Continued from Page 7)

1. We will section off parts of the church sanctuary so there will be a 6ft distance between families. Families can sit together, but we will keep a radius around each family unit.

2. People will be encouraged to wear masks on their way in and on their way out from worship services. But once you have found your place to sit, you will have the freedom to remove your mask so you can participate in singing and in worship. When you leave, you will be asked to put your mask on again.

3. We will not have much social interaction before or after worship ser-vices together for the short term. We recognize our coffee time is a very important part of our experience, but we will put that on hold for the be-ginning of our time back together, again to minimize infection possibili-ties. We will start will baby steps and move on from there.

4. We will have communion together, but we will do so with personal pre-packed wafer/grape juice units. They will be given to you as you come into worship, again to minimize the risk for infection, but I think we can do this well and for those who are watching online, they can participate in their homes as we have been doing.

5. As far as groups meeting on the church campus, we will also start open-ing that up slowly. So please contact the church office for requirements for that process.

We are opening up, but we will open up slowly and as responsibly as we can. If you do not feel well or if you feel vulnerable or are uncom-fortable in coming together, please continue to utilize our streaming online services as we all have been doing for these past several weeks. We are continuing to think through this process and will likely have updates as times goes on. Please feel free to contact Pastor Mark, [email protected],or Pastor Steve, [email protected]. You can also call the church office, (760) 728-3256. People of Christ The King, we can’t wait to be able to gather together again! Let’s make this process as smooth and responsible as we can, thank you for your patience and participation in this process. We love you and look forward to seeing you again in person soon! Thanks and God bless! Pastor Mark Johnson, Pastor Steve Gilbertson Your Christ The King Church Council

Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Sunday in 2020

4th Sunday of Every Month

“I want every child to know there is a God who loves them.” Franklin Graham, President, Samaritan’s Purse

On Sunday, June 28, it is Shoebox Sunday! Hopefully, we are now back on schedule with EVERYTHING...or at least on our way there. Kris and Paula will have our OCC table in front of the church, to both collect the above items (and ones needed from previous months), as well as give out any information you may want/need. In addition, we plan to host a Bake Sale on June 28. All proceeds of that Bake Sale will go to help offset the cost of mailing our shoeboxes ($9 each box). We would like each and every one of you to participate in one of these ways:

1. Donate a homemade baked item to sell (contact Paula or Kris prior to Sunday, June 28) 2. Come and purchase one of our DELICIOUS, homemade items! 3. Donate $9 to help mail one (or two?) of the Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes!

Thank you so very much for all your support in making items, donating items, and praying for Jesus’ little ones. Let’s have fun with this project, and make it our goal to bless as many children as possible this year — not just with a Shoebox, but with the love of Jesus and our prayers!

For more information/questions, please contact either Kris Groscup, [email protected], or

Paula Johnson, [email protected].

The suggested items to pick up for the month of June are small toys. For more information about what these items can be,

are Looking Forward to a Summer Youth Production!

I am very anxious to get The King’s Players active again. It has been my intention for months (prior to the shut down) to do a youth pro-duction this summer. Obviously, things have been in a holding pattern, however, I would still like to do a youth production as soon as I can. The decision of which show to do depends on the number of youth (ages 8 - 18) that audition. If we can get at least 20 kids to audition, then I would like to do "Bye, Bye Birdie." If the number is smaller, then I will do "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown." Both are fun shows. Both need some pretty strong lead characters. In my work with CAST over the past 15 years, I worked with thou-sands of children in the Fallbrook area, and got a lot of them interested in theater. Now, neither the High School, nor Junior High have any theater classes that I am aware of. Theater is a wonderful opportunity for children to have fun, and learn many things that they don't even know they are learning (eg., teamwork, leadership, self-confidence, memorization skills and much more). It would be great if Christ The King Lutheran Church offered the opportunity to lots of youth to participate in this positive, crea-tive outlet. The King’s Players is an "outreach" ministry, so membership in CTK is not necessary. However, it could go a long way toward introducing young families to Christ The King, and growing our congregation. We would love to get other church members involved in some of the "back of the house" activities (eg., costumes, sets, publicity, concessions, etc.) I see great potential in this ministry, and would very much like to see it start growing. It is a great opportunity for us to use many of our God-given gifts and talents.

Let me know if you and/or your children (or grandchildren, or friends, or neighbors) would like to get involved. The sooner we know how

many children and youth would be interested in doing a show, the sooner we can get going! For more information and/or to

sign up to help, contact Mary Fry, [email protected].

Plan to join us for some "post-quarantine" fun!

June Teaching Series on Justice (On ZOOM until further notice)

Whether the cause is a radioactive spider bite or a nuclear explo-sion, every superhero has an origin story — a moment when they begin to discover how they’re uniquely equipped to help save the world. You probably don’t have the power of flight or the ability to shoot energy beams out of your fists, but in this 4-week series you’ll see that you, too, have the potential to help save the world when you embrace who God made you to be, care for the people in front of you, rely on your team, and are heroic in ordinary situations.

Due to the coronavirus situation, the Preschool has been closed until further notice. We are getting closer to opening again, and here is the most current update from our Preschool Director:

“So far we have 22 children officially enrolled for summer school, and we are hoping to stick with our original dates of June 15 through July 24. Several other parents have said they would like their children to attend when we reopen. As soon as licensing lifts the ‘essential workers only’ for child care, we will get started! Four of our teachers have been making packets for their class to pick up, and then they attend Zoom meetings with them to do the work together. They sing songs, read stories, and talk to each other. I attended Nichole's meeting, and it was so great to see the joy on their faces seeing their teacher and friends. In addition, I have been putting daily lessons on FaceBook for the children, which include a lesson, a game, and a video. The parents are loving all that everyone is doing to stay connected. One family made a small payment to show their gratitude for the work being done. There are currently 26 children enrolled for the 2020-2021 school year. In order to reopen, we will have to follow licensing regulations: health screening each staff member and child before entry to classrooms; no intermingling of classes; and class sizes limited to 10 children and two teachers. Children and Staff are not required to wear masks in the class-room or outside.”

When we think about the Israelites in the wilderness, we often

think of it as a time of disappointment, suffering, and promises

deferred. What we often forget is that God was there even in the

wilderness, reminding the Israelites of God’s goodness and faith-

fulness. No matter their present circumstances, the people experi-

enced that God was with them, and moved people like Joshua,

Caleb, and Rahab to take incredible leaps of faith! Through the

amazing accounts of Israel’s journey during that time, your kids

will also come to realize that they can: spend time with God

anywhere, trust God, take risks for God, and remember what

God has done for us.

Dear Church Family, We waited as long as we could to make a decision about whether or not we would be hosting Vacation Bible School: The Knights of North Castle in June. We gave ourselves a deadline of May 13, so that we could make a good decision based on the current Covid-19 situation. We have decided to cancel VBS for this year. Because we had already purchased many of the decorations and items needed, we will still be doing the theme of Knights of North Castle in June 2021!

Thank you all for the support you have given to King’s Kids!
