Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of God's love. Since 1993, the Samaritan’s Purse project, Operation Christmas Child, has collected and delivered more than 124 million gift filled shoeboxes to children in more than 150 countries and territories. Samaritan's Purse works with local churches and ministries to deliver the gifts and share the life-changing Good News of Jesus Christ. In 2015, Operation Christmas Child hopes to collect enough shoebox gifts to reach another 11 million children.

We at LCR would like to help Operation Christmas Child this year. Our Sunday School children will be collecting gifts/items for this cause until November 22. Everyone can be involved with this simple, hands-on project while focusing on the true meaning of Christmas - Jesus Christ.

What should be put in the boxes and what are the ages of the recipients?

Toys: Include items that children will immediately embrace such as toy cars, yo-yos, jump ropes, balls, toys that light up and make noise (with extra batteries), etc.

School Supplies: pens, pencils and sharpeners, crayons, markers, notebooks, paper, solar calculators, coloring and picture books, etc.

Non-liquid Hygiene Items: toothbrushes, bar soap, combs, washcloths, etc.

Accessories: T-shirts, socks, hats, sunglasses, hair clips, jewelry, watches, flashlights (with extra batteries), etc.

Crafts: Make your own items such as hair bows, finger puppets, and friendship bracelets.

Age and Gender-Specific Ideas: Girls 2-4, Girls 5- 9, Girls 10-14, Boys 2-4, Boys 5-9, Boys 10-14.

A Personal Note: You may enclose a note to the child and a photo of yourself or your family. If you include your name and address, the child may be able to write back.

Shipping cost: Donate $7 online or place your check made out to Samaritan’s Purse in an envelope on top of the gifts in your box to cover shipping and other costs.

Preschool News

Bible Verse Great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:23

We had a wonderful beginning to our new school year! We are full with a wait list on MWF and are still enrolling in our T/Th classes. Everyone seems very glad to be back and we are settling into our routine. It is always fun to meet new friends and greet our old friends as we start a new year. I am blessed by a wonderful staff and we are all excited to be back.

October begins with our new and improved fall "FUN”draiser and we know it will be a great success. It will take place here on Saturday, October 10 and all are invited. We will have our traditional Silent Auction during this event, and that will end our fundraising until our “Trike-A-Thon” in the spring, and our See’s Candy sale at Easter. As we are a private Christian school, we depend upon fundraisers to continue to provide a quality Christian program for the little ones we are privileged to serve. Thank you so much to all of you who are so faithful to our preschool. We appreciate our wonderful church family so much. Your faithful commitment to our preschool is a continuing blessing to all of us.

October is lots of fun here at RLP. We do lots of “pumpkin art,” talk about Halloween, harvest time, bats, spiders, and all things “fall!” We are all looking forward to wearing costumes to school for our Halloween parade and parties. Our chapels this month will feature a real pumpkin, the “Apple chapel,” and the creation story told using a flannel board and puppets. The Bible verse our children will be learning for October is “Great is your faithfulness” from Lamentations. The Fruit of the Spirit for October is faithfulness.

Our children are having a great time painting pictures, doing collages, playing with play dough, riding bikes, reading books, and so much more. Each morning we sing two songs and have a prayer in the courtyard before beginning our day with music provided by Miss Carol (Hazen). We are so blessed by Miss Carol’s faithful devotion to our preschool. Miss Carol plays for us every morning and our children learn about 40 songs by the time they leave our program. We learn songs for each season and some of our very favorites are about the fall and Halloween time. Soon we will begin practicing for our Christmas program! Our little ones will learn nine songs for the program and dress as angels, wise men, and shepherds for the performances. More about the Christmas program next month! In His Service, Judy
