The "Big Pitcher"With winter here in all its icy glory, it’s quite common for water to become the forgotten hero. Water needs to form animportant part of you and your child’s lifestyle as it aids in the absorption of important nutrients, contributes to immunityand is essential in all bodily functions. The main sources of water include drinking water, beverages, moisture content of food and water produced by processes within the body. By encouraging your child to drink enough water and healthy beverages- constipation, dry skin, nose bleeds, headaches and urinary tract infections may be avoided. But how much is enough? The fluid recommendation for boys and girls aged 4-8years is 1600ml/day and 1900ml/day for girls and 2100ml/day for boys aged 9-13years. Most of the recommendation should be made up of good, old-fashioned clean water with healthy beverages and moisture from food making up the difference. Registered Dietitian (UFS)

Museum ExhibitionThe third annual Eduplus Museum Exhibition took place in April this year. All our Grade 4, 5 and 6 learners participated, as part of their Social Science curriculum. Each grade had to create an exhibition based on a specificarea of history relevant to them.

My TownThere was great excitement among the preschool learners and parentswhen we covered the theme "My Town", with our very own TweetyStreet and Dolphin Street on display. The cardboard box houses wereconstructed with great care and attention - with a couple of dads coming in to make special "repairs" before the great painting job began! These colourful box houses each had their own house numbers, and were of a very high standard!

Another highlight of the preschool calendar this term wasthe "Occupations" theme. Our enthusiastic parents werekind enough to come in and share something about theirjobs with our Tweety and Dolphin classes. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about different occupationsin such a practical way. Ethel Botha, a social worker, camealong with the Child Protection Unit to explain these people's valuable work to our children. Justin Marx came to talk about being a sushi chef at a local restaurant. There was also great excitement about the visits of DenbyRidler, an airforce pilot, and Shereez Simmons (Isaacs), apaediatrician. Moreover, the children had the opportunityto dress up in the outfits of their favourite occupations. Grateful thanks to all the parents who offered some of theirvaluable time to inspire our preschoolers. Who knew hard workcould be such fun?

The Tweety and Dolphin classes learn about occupations

Dr Lloyd Rossouw, an Eduplus parent and experienced museum researcher, officially opened the exhibition, afterwhich parents and teachers visited the various detaileddisplays to learn more about significant historical figures, places and events.

Congratulations to all our Intermediate Phase learners (andtheir parents!) for a job very well done!

"Tannie" Lettie came round to knock on each door and offer a "Smurf" pancake to each preschool homeowner. What a way to start a week ofgreat fun playing "House, House"!
