Our parish is blessed to have several people who diligently work 'behind the scenes' to support our liturgical ministries. Among them are those that wash and iron our altar linens and those that set the credence table

before each weekend Mass. A heartfelt thank you to all who are involved in these ministries and all our liturgical minis-tries at Good Shepherd.

For the Food Pantry

Next week for the food pantry, please bring Cereal.

Dear Good Shepherd Parishioners,

Words cannot express my gratitude for the outpouring of your love through your welcoming presence, words of condolence, songs, pictures, food--table preparation and clean-up. I am sure Linda was as deeply moved as I was, by every aspect of the Mass of Celebration of Life for her. She loved you and your warm friendly ways of making her feel whole. Thank you again for making Saturday, August 20, 2016 so memorable. Peace, Tom Ashe.

ACT Group for Parents of Children with Disabilities

This fall, Catholic Charities will pilot the ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy) Group for Parents of Children with Disabilities. This group program specifically works with parents of children with developmental disabilities, who encounter a large amount of stress on a daily basis. The group is both didactic and supportive in nature, and combines teaching and practicing mindfulness skills, behavioral parenting skills, experiential exercises, group discussion/process, and homework.

The group will meet for 1.5 hours per session for a total of 8 weeks on Saturdays this fall at Catholic Charities office at 4855 Princess Anne Rd., next to the Church of the Ascension. The group will first meet on Saturday, September 17th and will run every other Saturday through December.

Parents who have been feeling overwhelmed, stressed out, exhausted, lost, frustrated, or simply stuck may find this group helpful. Through this supportive and educational group, a trained facilitator hopes to provide families with an opportunity to share and connect while gaining important skills.

Please call (757) 467-7707 for more information, or to register for the group.

Change in Timing of the Annual Diocesan Appeal

Since the Annual Diocesan Appeal was revamped in 2010, it has provided significant funding for the local priorities of parishes and the larger ministries of the Diocese. Over the past six years, the Appeal has returned over $7 million to our parishes in addition to providing over $12 million to strengthening our future church, as-sisting our parishes, supporting our priests and clergy and building diverse communities.

Normally during this time of year, we are asking for your support of the current Appeal. However, the purpose of this announcement is to make you aware that the timing of the Appeal has changed. The Appeal is moving from the fall of 2016 to the first quarter of 2017 and will coincide with Lent. This schedule will continue in subse-quent years. This decision was made in order to allow more time after the completion of the Living Our Mission capital and endow-ment campaign to strategize a strong return for the Appeal. In ad-dition, this allows more time to expand our efforts as it relates to campaign continuation, legacy giving and parish stewardship as well as the new Catholic Community Foundation. We appreciate your accommodation to this change.

More information will be forthcoming later in year and I am hope-ful you will join us in once again supporting the immediate needs addressed through the Annual Diocesan Appeal.

With gratitude and warmest wishes, I remain

Sincerely yours in Our Lord,

Most Reverend Francis X. DiLorenzo

Bishop of Richmond
