SEAS STEWARDSHIP

As we begin a new year, now is the time to reaffirm your commitment to your spouse. Marriage is a lifelong relationship that requires effort and work along the way.

However, a thriving marriage is not a victory to be won. It is a journey…and it is a journey that is lived out in the little things, in little ways. Let this be the motto for your life and your marriage this year, “Every day, in every way, get a little bit better.” Be a little kinder. A bit more patient. Pray a minute longer. Listen more carefully. Do a task that isn’t “yours”. Show your love in the power of little things. It will be an amazing gift to your marriage.

Beginning this week, we will have Little Burgundy Books/Six-minute Reflections on Stewardship In Light of the Gospel of Matthew available for all parishioners. We will pray with these books for the next month to help ready ourselves to answer the call to Stewardship when we receive our 2020 parish Stewardship booklets the weekend of February 15/16. Thank you, and God bless you as you discern the sharing of your gifts this year.

At this time of year, our food pantry has been very blessed to receive food from a number of food drives. We are so grateful for all the donations we receive from both our parish members and our community. If you are interested in donating to our pantry this month, we do continue to be in need of hygiene and cleaning products, such as laundry soap, dish soap, toothpaste, deodorant, and shampoo. Thank you so very much for helping our sisters and brothers in Christ.

Expecting parents, the next Baptism class is Monday, January20th at 6:30 pm. Parents, this session is an opportunity for you to enrich, deepen, and strengthen your Catholic Faith – the Faith you are asking to have your child brought into at the

celebration of their baptism. Unless there is an emergency, parents are required to attend our Baptism session before each child is presented for baptism. Therefore, if you are pregnant, now is the time for you to register for class. To register, call Sr. Bridget at the parish or go online at: www.seasholmen.org. God bless you!

Deep Meaning of Epiphany

The feast of Epiphany-Christ's divinity completes the feast of Christmas-His humanity. It fulfills all our Advent longing for the King "who is come with great power and majesty." We see that whereas Christmas is the family feast of Christianity, Epiphany is the great "world feast of the Catholic Church." Epiphany is outlined in four main ideas: Divine manifestation: Epiphany from the Greek word epiphania, denotes the visit of a god to earth. The idea of this feast is the manifestation of Christ as the Son of God. "Begotten before the daystar and before all ages, the Lord our Savior is this day made manifest to the world." Royal kingship: Epiphany presents to us the extension of Christ's kingship to the whole world, not just a chosen few. Your Light is Come: During Advent, the world was in darkness, and we prayed and waited in the spirit of the Jewish nation which lived in expectation of the Coming Light during thousands of years. At Christmas the Light shone forth, but dimly, seen only by a few around the crib: Mary and Joseph and the shepherds. But at Epiphany the Light bursts forth to all nations and the prophecy is fulfilled. The royal nuptials: the wedding of Christ with humanity. The Epiphany antiphon for the hour of Lauds brings out strikingly this theme of the divine marriage of Christ with humanity. We do not commemorate a set of historical facts as much as we celebrate a great mystery: "This day the Church is joined to her heavenly Spouse, for Christ has cleansed her crimes in the Jordan. With gifts the Magi hasten to the royal nuptials, and the guests are gladdened with wine made from water." It is the custom of the Catholic Church that priests remember specific intentions at the celebration of the Eucharist. Normally, a small offering or stipend (customarily $10 in the Diocese of La Crosse) is given for a Mass intention. Anyone can request a particular intention for which a Mass can be offered. Mass cards, to be given to the family of a deceased person for whom a Mass is to be offered, are available when requesting a Mass intention. If you would like to have a Mass celebrated for some-one, we have openings for intentions throughout 2020. Please contact Sandy in the Parish Office (526-4424).

welcome. Extra pledge cards can be found in the gathering place or you can easily donate online at: diolc.org/donate-online

RIGHT TO LIFE

Wisconsin Right to Life On Sunday, January 19, 2020, Wisconsin Right to Life will have a signature ad in the La Crosse Tribune. This will be a public

statement of our belief in the sanctity of all human life and as a remembrance of the tragic Roe v. Wade decision of January 22, 1973. Since that decision, over 60 million lives have been lost to legal abortion in our country. Please add your name to this ad and stand up for life. There will be people collecting names after all Masses the weekend of January 11 and 12. (If you are able, a donation of $2 per name or $5 per family to help defray the cost of the ad is appreciated.)

SEAS SIMPLE LIVING

Laudato Si In 2015, Pope Francis presented to the world the encyclical “Laudato Si” or “Care for Our Common Home”. The title “Laudato Si” is taken from the beginning of St. Francis’s prayer “Canticle of the Creation” and reminds us that the earth “is like a sister with whom we share our lives.” Please join us the second Sunday of every month from 9:15 to 10:00 a.m. as we continue to discern what we, individually and as a community, are called to do as stewards of creation. Please know that all are wel-come to pray and reflect on Pope Francis’ words – even if you have not attended previous sessions, there

is much to share!

GOOD MOURNING MINISTRY

The next SEAS Good Mourning Ministry is scheduled for Monday, January 6 at 1:00 at church. Losing one's partner, one's soul mate, one's spouse or a child "demands" the greatest inner strength one can apply, and it requires the help and wisdom of fellow grief travelers. All are welcome to join this or any future gathering.

FOOD PANTRY RESUMES

Attention All Food Pantry Guests and Volunteers – The Food Pantry will resume its regular schedule starting this Tuesday, January 7th. The Food Pantry is open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9am-11am. Please don’t hesitate to contact Fr. Parr, Sr. Bridget, or Carol Reider in the parish office at any time, if you have questions. Also, if you know of others who are in need of food pantry assistance, please let them know of the help available at St. Elizabeth’s. Thank you and God bless.
