Chevron and DonorsChoose.org to Provide

Funds to Support Innovative Classroom Projects

The Chevron “Fuel Your School Program” is back!

As we begin the 2015-2016 school year, Chevron would like to let you know about Chevron’s Fuel Your School program, which can help you get the supplies you need for your eligible classroom projects up to $1,000. This fall, Chevron’s Fuel Your School program will support public education in Kern County by helping K-12 educators, in your district, receive funding for eligible classroom projects – ranging from pencils to microscope slides, and even live tarantulas for use with biology lessons – through DonorsChoose.org, an online organization that organizes funding for schools across the country. DonorsChoose.org will use Chevron’s donations to help fund eligible classroom projects. Projects are funded on a rotating basis by the order in which they are received and posted on DonorsChoose.org. Chevron encourages teachers to post eligible classroom projects for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education to help prepare students who may be interested in these types of advanced technical jobs. However, this is not a STEM exclusive campaign, ALL SUBJECTS are encouraged as well. How it works Throughout the month of October, everyone can help their local public schools by filling up at participating Chevron and Texaco locations. Chevron will donate $1, up to $300,000, when consumers purchase 8 or more gallons of fuel at participating local Chevron and Texaco stations in Kern County to help fund eligible classroom projects.

Page 5: The Advisory Bulletin - BCSD

What teachers can do now Teachers can sign up and request funding for eligible classroom projects, follow these three simple steps:

1. If you’re not yet a registered teacher on DonorsChoose.org, sign up now. It will save you time when you actually post your project. Please note: All certificated staff who spend most of their time with direct interaction with students are eligible (i.e., Counselors, Librarians, Nurses, Psychologists, Naturalists, etc.)

2. Post projects (requesting up to $1,000 in materials) on or as close to, but not before Sept. 1, as possible. The earlier you post your project during the submission period of Sept. 1 through Nov. 15, 2015, the better your chance will be to receive funding. Chevron reserves the right to end the submission period earlier if funds have been exhausted by eligible projects.

3. Tell everyone you know about fueling up in October and prepare now for this great opportunity. Visit www.FuelYourSchool.com and follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The Fuel Your School program can help make a big impact for our students and their future. Chevron encourages you to take advantage of this great opportunity by visiting www.FuelYourSchool.com for all the details and learn from other teachers who have seen the benefits of this program by watching teacher testimonials on YouTube.

Subject: California Healthy Kids Survey – 5th grade students Prepared By: Lewis Neal, Youth Services Supervisor Approved By: Dr. Tim Fulenwider, Director, Instructional Support Services Division Page 1 of 1

California Healthy Kids Survey 5th Grade: September 21- October 20, 2015

The Local Educational Agency (LEA) Plan stipulates that BCSD will administer the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) to all 5th graders on a yearly basis. The dates for the 5th grade survey is September 21- October 20, 2015. The survey takes approximately 50 minutes to complete.

The California Healthy Kids Survey is an anonymous and confidential student report of attitudes, health risk behaviors, and protective factors. The survey gathers information on behaviors such as: physical activity and nutritional habits; alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use; school safety; and environmental and individual strengths. The California Healthy Kids Survey is a great way to receive feedback and valuable information from students in a confidential manner. It is a critical component of school improvement efforts to help guide the development of more effective health, prevention, and youth development programs. Under separate cover, each school will receive instructions, parent consent forms, surveys, scantrons and transmittal envelopes. Please let me know which date you will administer the survey and the name of the staff person who will coordinate the survey for your school. You can email me at [email protected] or call ext. 14775 if you have any questions. Thank you for your cooperation!
